Last week I received my new UBG "Canute" holster for my MK9. My initial impressions of this holster are very favorable. The quality of the workmanship is comparable to that of the other holster I have that were made by Lou Alessi, Matt Del Fatti and Milt Sparks.

The initial retention of this holster was stronger than anything I have ever experienced. Basically the first time I put my MK9 in the holster I could not get it out again!. I finally managed to wiggle and pull my gun out of the holster and the problem became apparent. It seems that the front part of the ejection port was "locking" in the indentation for the ejection port that is formed in the holster. I wrapped my holster in two plastic bags and left in the holster over the weekend. This definitely helped the problem, but I could see that the sharp front edge of the ejection port was scraping and abrading the inside of the holster. I recall that someone else on this forum also had a problem with the sharp front edge of the ejection port was abrading his holster, so he rounded it off. I did the same thing with some careful work with my Dremel and the results can be seen in the photo below.

It seems this solved the abrasion problem as well as any issue with the pistol sticking in the holster. I now have good retention with a smooth draw. I haven’t worn the holster yet for any length of time, so I’ll have to reserve my comments on its comfort level until I’ve had a reasonable amount of "wear time" with it.
