In a victory for gun rights advocates,
a federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down Illinois' ban on carrying concealed weapons -- the only total concealed-carry ban in the country.
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals gave state lawmakers six months to come up with their own version of the law that legalizes concealed carry.

the fine print says they have 180 daysto decide how they are gonna do it. so that tells me they will work around the law. Thatis what the stateof Illinois does ya know.

You can talk about all of the corrupt politicians in the Chicago area running the whole state, but a bunch of them went along with Obummer to Washington DC and NOW they are running... rather, RUINING... THIS WHOLE COUNTRY. Obummer's Chief of Staff was Mayor Daley's Right Hand Man! Obummer was really thick with the crooks in Chicago and they helped each other make money by USING and ABUSING the "POOR" Blacks there. They had/have some real good real estate scams going there with the Federal Housing for "poor" people.

First step in a very loooooooong process. The state will most likely appeal. Even if the state ultimatley looses they have the power of legislative fiat and can make life a living hell for those who want to CCW. Remember the politicians will eventually get to make the rules.

Best case is that Illinois only moves to be more like the nightmare of NY and CA, among a few others. The NRA is fighting a loosing battle, as are the rest of us. Best to just reside In a state that (for now) allows the most freedom and hope you die before it gets worse. That's my plan.

Just a couple of quotes from the above article:

“If we need to change the law, let us at least craft a law that is very severely constrained and narrowly tailored so that we don’t invite guns out of control on each of our city’s streets,” Currie said. “I don’t want people out of control wandering the streets with guns that are out of control.”

“As the dissenting opinion points out, the two judges who threw out Illinois' law did not take account of the danger to the public from stray bullets, and they ignored the Illinois legislature's determination that carrying weapons has been shown to escalate violence,” said Lee Goodman, an organizer with the Stop Concealed Carry Coalition, in a statement. “The decision, contrary to fundamental legal principles, took away the people's right, through their state legislatures, to make laws to protect themselves that are relevant to the conditions present in each state.”

Is Illinios really still a part of the US of A?!!?? Or are they trying to be the "leader" of the US like CA and NY have been trying to do?

And last, WHY would ANY red-blooded American want to live in a state as such???

Both of the above statements makes my head hurt, trying to determine in what context they are being made.

I for one do not want "people that are out of control wandering the street with guns that are out of control" and I don't think that anybody else would want that. So don't we need to make sure that people that have been demonstrated/diagnosed to be out of control (mental cases). I believe that this is a question on the form and is checked with the back ground check.

"Carrying weapons has been shown to escalate violence" - This is a pretty broad statement that does not take into account all of the people that carry weapons legally that have not escalated any violent act. This also ignores the fact that violent crimes have generally decreased in those states that have concealed weapons carry.

Logic Logic Logic

Your problem is expecting these anti-gun folks to use any sort of coherent logic when forming their anti-gun laws. Clearly, as soon as CCW is allowed people will be riding through town on their horses shooting their pistols into the air, whooping and hollering! All those stray bullets do get dangerous....why one could strike a lantern and set the barn a blaze....

The sad part is I really believe that's what they envision....that or a bunch of gangsta's rolling up with sagged pants and doing drive by shootings. The police pull them over, but they flash their "CC Permit" and the police just shrug and let them go.

Rumor I heard is Tinman don't got no fingers, horrible accident involving a corn harvester. Uses a probe in his teeth to push the buttons.

Course it could just be rumor too, I got no solid information to back it up.

Currie said. “I don’t want people out of control wandering the streets with guns that are out of control.”

I don't suppose you could have people IN control with guns that are OUT of control ... or conversely people OUT of control with guns that are IN control.

I guess those damn guns just don't want to behave themselves!

Howdy,

As a Life member of ISRA & NRA, I am happy with this. We have all the players in place to shut down any threat to this passage of any law that we don't like. The General Assembly had their chance to pass the HB-148, Personal Protection law, which allows CCW for all Illinoisians. HB-148 was a colaboration of Gun Control people, gun rights activists, LEO groups & States Attorney's agreeing on. The GA dragged it's feet, not passing this. So, it's back to the drawing board for the gun control people for them to craft some kind of legislation. We have the votes to control the vote. Any bad bill will be shut down. We as Illinoisians will have concealled carry within 179 days. I've been in the fight since 1999 and glad it's over.

I hope you are corect however statement to "control" the vote are overconfidence at the minimum. The legislators still control the issue. to fail to understand that is to fail to understand the issue.

Definitely congratulations to everyone involved in making that happen--it's just a sad thing that the fight had to take place to begin with. I expect the battles will continue for eternity, however; it seems we live in an era of increasing polarization and fewer diplomatic skills among the people and their elected bureaucrats.

With good fortune and reason, we can look forward to Illinois one day becoming a shall-issue state, acknowledging that the 2nd Amendment isn't the Right to Go Elk Hunting Amendment.

Howdy,

I have heard it might happen before Christmas(Whoopie!!!!) or it could happen with the new session of General Assembly. My old Senator(is wishie/washie onCCW) is leaving the 9th of January and my new Senator is staunch 2nd Amendment advocate, comes in. I think this is part of the regime getting in and should be pro 2nd Amendment. We missed calling the HB-148 by 6 votes last time, so it looks good. If they fail to come up with a plan by June 9, we get constitutional carry. Any time, anywhere and with any kind of weapon! I doubt this will happen, cuz they don't want this to happen, and they don't want miss the revenue. Things are accelerating and we be the ones steering, not the Politicians. Great for us. Will keep everyone posted on results, as I hear them.
