And note that a cache of 5,000 of these were discovered in Syria.

Fortunately not.
As the article says, "As soon as they saw this weapon, officers realised it was something out of the ordinary, and agreed to allow the woman to sell it" i.e. not turn it in.
A rare triumph of common sense over bureaucratic rules.
