So damned sad & disturbing.

Absolute tragedy, which verifies why I feel better when I'm with my baby and am carrying a weapon...and will also fuel the gun control fire fire further....
This individual should have never had a gun to begin with, but at the same time he did, and therefor I wish someone else had been at the front with a gun to end this maniac before he caused the chaos he caused.
I can't even begin to fathom what the parents of any of those children are going through right now...it makes my heart ache just trying to imagine it.

I could just through up when I hear things like this. It makes absolutely no sense what so ever. What kind of a sick mind would do such a thing, especially to innocent children? There friggin cowards because using a gun is less personal than say a knife or bat. There to cowardly to use a knife or a bat because they might get there head stomped into there mud hole if they did. IMO the press should never release there names this way they won't get there 15 minutes of fame. The headline should read. Some cowardly Scumbag POS walked into a school and opened fire and now he's dead may he rot in hell.

I read a really disturbing theory that there is a trend for these mass murderers to attempt to outdo one another.
With ever increasing carnage and more horrific selection of targets.
Sadly there seems to be some validity to this notion.
Government will feel obligated to take some sort of action.
Even if that action has no hope whatsoever of mitigating these events.

The liberal progressives took God out of the classroom and let the devil in. Our founding father's stated that the only way that our country can survive is by having an educated and moral society. This individual murdered a classroom full of children. The liberal progressives murdered 56 million children in abortion clinics. This is a result of devaluing life.
It's gotten to the point where we need armed security guards in our schools, malls and places of business. Enough is enough.

Actually thats exactly what the libtards want to hear. No more correct no firearms signs at the door of every business but a uniformed TSA wannabe, with metal detectors and rubber gloves.
I say it's too late but we need to address morals as you say, improve the school system and give them back some of the powers that the PC folks have taken away. Punishment in society where it is warranted. No more wrist slaps, and easy outs.
The reason its becoming more and more frequent is the pathetic losers are now outnumbering the working moral do the right thing folks.
In that school they did not need a TSA agent at the door, even a uniformed school police officer may have done no good. But imagine a teacher or assistant in the first classroom he entered with a gun where it belongs on their hip. Sorry pal, game over do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. But you can bet the uproar would have been 10 times worse that the death of these more innocent kids. School assistant guns down poor downtrodden scumbag wandering the halls with a bag of skittles and an semi auto pistol with hi cap mags.
But try to make people understand that which is part of the problem in the first place. Cops are forever whining that its not possible to ticket folks for being stupid.

What about all the violent video games, movies, tv, music, and everthing showing murders, glorifying crime, war, and killing. I think all that exposure to violence, kind of numbs the viewer, to the point that they can accept these situations as real life scenarios, and some will act out on it. Plus, as others have said, we've replaced God in the schools with pop culture, diversity and acceptance of things that would never have been tolerated in the old days. When you create a Godless vacuum, Evil rushes in to take it's place. I was reading an article about the shooting, and at the end most of the comments blamed the NRA, not the shooter. The shooter was also allegedly on some psychiatric drugs, anti-depressants or something. Who knows what these drugs do to our minds. They put a friend of mine on some of these drugs, and his wife caught him down in the basement with a hammer, beating all over the floor with it. He told her that there were bugs all over and he was killing them. She took him to the hospital, and they got the drugs out of his system over time, and now he is fine. He says he can't remember much of anything from the time they put him on the drugs, until the time they got them out of his system. Who knows what was going on inside this shooter's head while he was commiting his atrocity.

This has been a most difficult day for any right thinking person to deal with especially those of us who are parents....My heart is just breaking for all the poor families who's little babies went to kindergarden this morning thinking of the weekend and Santa coming soon and who's little broken bodies are still lying in those awful classrooms as of this hour...I just can't imagine what the families are going through...
My heart also goes out to the First Responders, Police, EMS Paramedics and everyone else that will have to deal with this awful mess...They too are human beings, many with childern of their own and are having to see and deal with things that no human or parent should ever have to deal with...God Bless them and be with them as they go about their duties tonight....
I remember in Febuary 2002 I got a call at work that a man had attacked a little girl by hitting her in the head with a claw hammer in my youngest sons school when he was in 2nd grade...She lived but was never the same afterwards and she was in my sons class and had just gone to the bathroom when this insane man that had slipped into the school attacked her for reasons we never found out about...I remember racing to the school to see if my son was injured or alive and the relief I felt when I found out he was ok... I just can't imagine how the parents felt when they got to that school and found out their child didn't make it out....
Right now I can't even think about gun control even though I know it's coming soon.....After the hammer attack there was never a call for hammer control as I recall but I feel with what happened today gun control will be a front line issue for the news media and the President...I really feel it's not about gun control, hammer, knife or ball bat control it's about evil control....
We have pushed God out of our schools and lives and what we are seeing is a direct result of children growing up with no idea of who God is and without direction or respect for authority of any kind and I fear this will not be the last we see of this sort of tragedy...
Sorry for the rant but tonight I'm confused about where this country is heading and profoundly sad and broken hearted....

ur dead right, no doubt about it but as u know the public this time is gonna look reight past those reasons and they are going to go after the guns. I hate it but this feeds rightinto obummers agenda and he doesnt need to even promote it, It is just gonna happen, The thing is "Just how bad is it gonna be for the legit gun owner".
You can't stop this type of killing, u just can't but I am not sure how I would feel if it was my child in that school that isnot coming home. I as most all of u are just so so sadabout all of this, not becuase only some of my righs are gonna go south this time but because it is gonna happen again and again. Logic, common sense, reality, none will matter. Were gonna pass tuff laws and the killing will continue. But those who promoted these new lawas will somehonw make themselves feel good about what they did.

I think we are all witnessing the ever increasing self destruction of America, and the entire world. These horrible events taking place with increasing frequency are a result of a society that has turned its back on God and his laws. The bible clearly teaches us there will be chaos towards the end, until a leader emerges to take control.
I think the beginning of the events of Revelation are playing out before us.
I am troubled because I'm not sure what to do to protect my family in the days ahead.
I have heard it said to buy " guns, gold, and grain " .
I have to keep praying for our broken country, but I am not sure it is fixable any longer.

What a terribly sad day for America. My thoughts are with the poor parents and those affected. It unfortunately reminds me of a sad day in Australia - Port Arthur, 1996 when an a**hole killed about 35 people. The result apart from a traumatized nation was the tightening of gun control. There was simply no way to oppose the sea of anti-gun sentiment.
A sad event, a soul searching nation and a terrible outcome.

So, I've had the day now to recover from this absolutely horrible event, all the news, all the comments at the bottom of articles. It's sickening.
But, I really have to believe this will be the straw that broke the camels back because of the nature of this one. It was an entire classroom of little children. I'm not AT ALL marginalizing Columbine, Aurora, etc, or anyone that has lost their life or a loved ones life in an event like this. But this was VA Tech w/ little kids of 5 and 6. It's gonna result in some heavy handed politics, most likely an executive order. Just no way this one will be let go w/o some action. Maybe I'm wrong and mugsy is right and it's just noise and knee-jerk from the horror and sheer magnitude of this event, but I feel otherwise at this point. I think this will start the ball rolling and force the hand of those that were otherwise ambivalent or sitting on the fence.
Freedom always comes around, but not in a lifetime usually. It's been on a slow downward swing for 100 years in this country by the progressives, but it's gonna snowball now. Gun rights have NEVER come back anywhere they have been taken, and it's been well over 100 years in some places. Between Obamacare and the last few events like this, we are going to become the UK, Australia, etc in less than 10 years. Just my prediction. Maybe I'm knee-jerking as a result of today as well...
I think everybody better be making some hard decisions about whether you keep them or not and the implications of those decisions. Gonna be a tough call for folks w/ families that depend on them for income, safety, security, parenting, etc. Safety and security might be the least of those concerns for many.

violence is 1 thing that will NEVER be stopped, because of the simple fact that guns & drugs will ALWAYS be running wild.
yes this is a very tragic situation in yet another little quiet town that everybody thinks 'that will never happen to us', until the day that it actually does go wrong without warning.
life will go on & there will be other tragic situations on a daily basis, just like hurricanes, tornados & driving accidents this is just a vicious circle that we can not get out of.
i just wish that all the cowards on this earth would quit bringing innocent people into situations that they don't need to be involved in, if your life is so bad that you or anybody else can do nothing to change it then shame on you for taking the easy way out.......
my heart goes out to all the innocent families that lost loved ones.

First, I sympathize with the victims and their families. I do not want to trivialize them with my next statement.
This will be a test of our system. Our government was formed so that knee-jerk reactions and mob rule does not form policy. IOW we have checks and balances in place so that all sides are heard and evaluated in the spirit and letter of the constitution. We may have lost some confidence in our system with current gun control legislation, but guns are still available to most people in most of the country. While this tempered ability to posses guns as mentioned does not give me cause to feel secure about gun ownership in the future, recent events will be a litmus test of our system's ability to look past the panic, the grandstanding, and the emotional backlash and uphold the most basic of principles that this country is founded on. The system is set up so that one man alone cannot trample the rights of the people no matter how much he feels he can right a wrong by doing so.
Lets grieve with the families who suffered tremendous loss, support the entities that support us and see if, through all the muck and mire, that our system works and the light of freedom still shines. It is all we can do and what we should do..

that would be the thinking mans approach. However, in that effort, one would find problems of the mentally ill to be like an onion with many layers to it and would require more than 30 seconds of attention. This is about 20 seconds more than most people want to give. After all we have to pay attention to Honey Boo Boo and the Kardashians.

there will always be tragic loss, know matter which way you look at it.
if it's a bone head jumping off a bridge into a bus full of people, an alcoholic that already has 10 dui's leaving a bar & crashes into some people going for a nightly walk, you choosing to go bungy jumping & the rubber band was not set for the right weight or a family traveling on a road trip vacation to see grandma for x-mas & a profesional texter forgets there's oncoming traffic.
death is death there's no questions about it point blank, but when there's death by guns in a masacare thats when there's a outrage by many people.
we can talk & debate for ever, but there will never be a safe solution.
everybody has to have eye's & ears all over there body & be able to protect themselfs.

I do, you are not the only one. Had I been there...problem is, most of us would have obeyed the stupid law and not taken a gun into the building. Again, I've made similar statements in a couple threads in the last couple of days, at some point a gun owner that has family has to decide between staying out of jail for the family's sake or potentially going to prison.

This caught me by surprise, but this image made me tear up. Earlier today I was praying for these families and thinking about how devastating this must be at this time. I have two young daughters and can't even fathom loosing them especially in a tragic event like this. I hugged them a little tighter when I got home. God, please bless and comfort those families.

I did the same. Someone at the elementary school told my 6 & 8 year old girls.
Why, why, why. I live in Alabama. It saddened both.
They lost more of their child hood.
My deepest sympathy and prayers to the families involved.
It would be nice if we as a nation could grieve together this horrible act of evil, or at least let the families pick up the bodies of their children from the morgue, before the anti-gunners try to score cheap political points at the expense of those families & those children. Sadly we don't live in such a world.
You've all seen such examples. My most recent outrage is Geraldo Rivera. I just saw an interview where he said (as closely as I can reproduce it, given I woke up at 0430-ish with the TV still running):
I know many gun collectors. They don't buy a 223 Bushmaster, a Glock, a 45. These are weapons of mass killing.
What a complete buffoon.
On the other end of the spectrum, check out this article from Massad Ayoob on the shooting. He points out this is not the first, nor even the worst, schoolhouse killing. And hint: the worst one used bombs not guns.
http://backwoodshome.com/blogs/MassadAyoob/2012/12/15/against-monsters/
He also points out what works, citing what Israel did to successfully stop these sorts of ongoing attacks against their kids by terrorists after their 1974 schoolhouse shooting. Good article - worth reading.
Sad day in America. Again my prayers for the families involved.

andnow that the bushmaster was the primary weaon in all the killings accordig to the medical examiner, it will even put more wood on the fire. I would think at leat u can kiss the high capacity magazines good by, which if that only gets through, we might consider ourselves lucky.. Just sayin

or watch them try to make all ASSULAT BUYERS AND OWNERS go through the NFA registration act and pay $250 fee per gun if u want to keep what u have or buy a newone. It wold be so easy ti implement
they could give every p[rior owner of ASSUALT RIFLES an a\mnestry period where the either have to register them under the NFA act or turn them in, ...Trust me, they (politicians) will fokk u while ur sleeping..Just sayin

The 2 things that really make me sick is that what you said is the truth, and it won't fix anything.
I'm reading that all the guns were his mothers, she knew he had issues, and he evidently had access to them. I'm very conscious of where mine all are the time, who has access (my family, visitors, etc...), guns are locked if there is any question at all. What about his mother but no one can ask her now.
Gun control is me having control over what I have. Not the government taking from us.

And the mother...?
Gunning down your own mother, and then innocent children, is unfathomable.
Our entire nation is saddened by this event.
It seems to be acts of terrorism and we must all be aware and vigilant
in our efforts to keep each other safe.
As hard as it is to have at this point,
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season...

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
When 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is heaven." declared a small boy.
"We’re spending Christmas at God's house.
"When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
But Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy that only heaven can bring
Those children all flew into the arms of their King
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
One small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now my children let me show you around.
"Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

Where did you find that poem Rotorflyr? Seems a very uplifting, comforting idea in the face of this. Very beautiful in the wake of the tragedy, and really shows what faith can allow a person to do.

Thank you Rotorflyr for that beautiful ending to a thread that started with so much tragedy and heartbreak!!!....Our God is an AWESOME God that Was, Is, and will come again...Let us celebrate his birth and look to him as a way out of the evil we live with on this earth...Merry Christmas to all....
Here's an absolutely awesome video of Piers Morgan being owned by Larry Pratt of the GOA. When Piers runs out of arguments he resorts to name calling. You have to love the parting shot where Pratt make the analogy to Neville Chamberlain - classic! Sadly, I suspect the average CNN viewer is so clueless and uninformed by our current educational system that they have absolutely no idea who Neville Chamberlain even is.
Anyway, here is the unedited video; CNN chopped a lot of it off on their own web site edition to (try to) make Piers Morgan look less like an idiot:

I normally keep it in control pretty good, but ffs....Piers Morgan is an idiot... He's not even GD American and he rants about how our country needs to change...**deep breath**
Every once in a while I have to step down off my neutral wagon and have some fun right? Actually, I think with the direction everything is headed it's time to abandon it completely. This is a gun forum, about the guns we own and love. There is no room for anyone or any ideas that would be counter to us enjoying our sport, having fun, and protecting our families.

Glad I wasnt the only one who thought so. The man was so rude, I wouldnt blam The GOA rep to walk off the set. I do not think Pierce was handled well nor did Pierce handle himself well at all. I spelled his name wrong and dont care to correct it either.

Maybe that's it, I was never issued a neutral wagon. I'm all about having fun all the time and let the chips fall where they may.
I'm really and truly trying to think of a fix for the current trend but it's so huge with so many players and so many with zero common sense with so much power and money that its a rough row to hoe.
I'm sure the NRA is really gonna come out with some well thought out ideas but no one will listen or heed their advice.
It's down right depressing, not a good thing this time of year.

He is here because they have already polluted their own country with this crap. He comes from a nanny state where only the elite have any real freedoms. He's still pissed because we kicked their tail out over two hundred years ago.
He needs to take his liberal tax your TV tax, your door knobs, control freak attitude back overseas and then he needs to be put on a no fly list.
The no thinkers in this country don't realize that people hate what we have in the USA because they don't have it. They want us to be just like like them, dependent on the state.

I've got some family like that, also out there in Cali....last time he was here he cringed seeing the deer head on my wall, but agreed the Venison chili was delicious, and also really enjoyed the Crappie I cooked him. His "don't hurt the poor animals stance" was changing quickly when he realized how delicious they were. Not all can be converted, but it may be possible to find ways to at least start....

I have one that moved from San Francisco to Shreveport, LA. He said he had a hard time at first but now he's seeing the error of his ways. They came to visit for thanksgiving and he couldn't believe Obama won and was asking about what would be the best hand gun for fun and self defense.
Course he still has learning to do, he didn't know what a biscuit was and thought sausage patties were little hamburgers. LOL!!!! He had grits for the first time too. Oh, they're foreigners by the way.

Oh, they're foreigners by the way.
I fully believe that. My wife's whole family is from Cali, with half of them now living here in SW MO. The look of amazement on their faces still makes me laugh when they look at things as simple as turkey feathers hanging on the wall.
The following is a letter that I posted in our local paper (The Capital in Annapolis) re: response to Newtown CT. There was a raging gun control debate.
Hat tip to Masaad Ayoob's blog that gave me the inspiration to take this particular theme.
Out of respect this discussion should have waited until the poor families could at least have their funerals. Sigh.
Evil knows no favorite weapon. Newtown CT was not the first nor the worst in almost any category. 9/11 terrorists used box cutters to control airplanes and kill almost 3,000 people including children as young as 2 years old. Timothy McVeigh used fertilizer to blow up 168 people including 19 children in the Murrah Federal Building Day Care. The first school massacre was in the Pontiac Rebellion when Indian warriors used knives to kill the headmaster and 10 children. And contrary to some sloppy media reporting, the worst school massacre was not Virginia Tech but rather the Bath School disaster when Andrew Kehoe used dynamite to blow up an elementary school, killing 38 grade-school children (almost double Newtown) and 6 adults.
It’s not the tool; it’s the individual.
Certainly part of the solution is a national dialog on what to do with criminals, mentally insane, and those demon possessed of evil before they can carry out their attacks.
To those measures however one country has learned what to do when all else fails: Israel. Since the Ma’alot massacre in 1974, Israel has armed volunteer teachers and parents. Despite Hezbollah’s and Hamas’ declaration that children are legitimate targets, that tragedy has not been repeated.
“Gun free zones” are free-fire zones for human predators. Sadly Israel discovered that the quickest way to stop a bad guy with a gun – is a good guy with a gun.

Thanks for the kind words. It is in the online edition. They generally keep that up for about a week then expire the links. They have a policy of only printing one letter per reader per month (!) so the better course is to make comments on their web pages where the number of postings is unlimited (if you can fit each one in 250 words).
For now that link is here, and it includes a reply to what i wrote and a further reply by me: http://www.capitalgazette.com/maryland_gazette/news/government/changing-views-edwards-leads-call-for-gun-control/article_c6d6dd52-c46d-592a-812b-974718d625d6.html

I need some educat'n about Chamberlain. I know he was the PM and about the Munich agreement and his part to bring England into the war. What am I missing here when it comes to our discussion--please be kind.
The reason UK PM Neville Chamberlain was cited because he was an appeaser in the face of violence & tyranny. He thought if he gave Adolf Hitler everything he wanted, that Hitler would “play nice”. It is now almost universally acknowledged that by rolling belly side up for Germany, that gave the German war machine time to build their strength even more – while of course at the same time sacrificing the freedom of the countries Hitler kept demanding (Rhineland, Saarland, Austria, Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia, etc.) and dooming them to the nightmare ahead.
Chamberlain was followed by Winston Churchill, who of course was one of the UK’s greatest wartime PMs of all time. But by then, the UK was already under existential threat, thanks to the lead granted to Hitler and Germany by Chamberlain.
Neville Chamberlain, rightly, has become a by-word for appeasers in the face of bullies, against surrendering your rights and “hoping” things go well for you.
For him to throw that in Morgan’s face was actually quite an insult and one that Morgan well understood.
Don’t worry if you didn’t get all of that. The sad state of the US educational system is such that this is about the *last* thing they would ever want to teach anymore.
