Another fantastic job from Jon, the best wooden grip maker ever!
Both wooden walnut or ebony?

Walnut IMO. Whichever set you don't put on the gun you should send up to Bwanna to measure out and let him throw his lot in on this "Best Wooden Grips Maker"....especially since I have a K9 coming...

I need to get a new K9 for a model. Darn hard to make a grip from a grip especially as complicated as a Kahr is inside.

He can still be #1 but I'll make ya cry too.

I think we need to start a "Any K9 owners live near Bwanna and wanna risk letting the old coot fondle their gun" thread to see if we can get some volunteers....or do you need the gun the whole time you're making the grips? I don't know how all that works, I figured once you had it figured out you'd be golden....

Maybe since it sounds tough to make a set of wooden K9 grips I should just buy a 1911...those are easy enough to make right?

You should get both. I just spoke to your wife and Saoirse and they both said it was ok.
And the 1911 won't be a problem.

Oh really? I'm picking her up at lunch, I'll thank her for okaying it with you.....She's always wanted to see the Pacific Northwest, we may make a trip up there....

Roger that. I've got a gun AND the grips, and was looking at making a black micarta (paper or linen) set and thought, "Geeez. Can this actually be done?"

I think making one single set for one's own use would be 95% making jigs and fixtures, 5% cutting the grip itself. I'm still fool enough to try it, though.

As for the grips above, I think I'd prefer the ebony--but I'm an ebony enthusiast anyway, especially the stuff that has the deep shades of brown in it. It lends itself to glass-smooth finishes though, so some checkering might be in order to cut down on the large uninterrupted surfaces. JMO

I'm partial to ebony myself. It's hard as heck, checkers wonderfully and I too like it with a little color mixed in. I had some that has blonde streaks running through it. Very nice.

I got a piece of Black and White ebony but it's almost pure white with very little black in it. It's hard. Full of worm holes too but I think they add character.

I've made several MK9 grips and a few K's as well and your right that inside fitting is a nightmare from heck. All those bearing surfaces that all show so no room for error and nothing really to do to fix it if you goof wrong.

It does get easier after a few. My biggest issue is apparently mine are early. I send them out and they don't fit so back they come.

I love stabilized wood now too, super durable and works well, a little harder on checkering tools and more effort to shape etc but never cracks, or warps or does anything bad so far. It's downfall is the price but what price perfection you know?
