Well, it was people's wild imaginations that made it into an Apocalypse, the calender just shows that it's the end of one astromical "age" and the beginning of a new one, basically that means the sun will rise and set in a new constellation. This happens every 5000 some years. I don't know how the Mayans were able to calculate this.
Even modern scientists say this has happened or is going to happen somewher between 1940, and 2030. I guess what did actually happen, was that the Sun, aligned with the stars Alcyon, and Sirius, which in turned lined up with the center of our galaxy. It also can calculate many other astronimical events I guess.
I'm way disappointed too, I was hoping that some profound change would affect humanity, and we'd be bound by the power of love, instead of the love of power. Some of the things I watched suggested that this was just the START of the change that will gradually make us into a new type of people, and will take some time for people to evolve into this new state. They already have the next apocalypse planned, an asteroid, is going to pass us very shortly, and will pass between the ring of geo-stationary satellites, some 23,000 miles up in 2029, and the Earth, and if it happens to pass through a certain place, then 7 years later it will strike the Earth, in something like 2036. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mbHB4cgbYk
