I just picked up my new P380 today and went to the range, had 100 rounds 50 wwb and 50 critical defense with absolutely no problems, in fact loved the accuracy and how easy it was to control compared to other 380's this size. With that said the problem came when I field stripped it to give it a good solid cleaning after the range.

I field stripped it with no problems( a little tight getting the slide off of the frame) however when I went to re assemble that's when my frustrations started. I could not get the slide back on the frame, for about 30 minutes I tried everything without forcing it including pressing down on the ejector( per instructions) several times. What I noticed at this point was a few things, first the ejector was starting to shave or dent a little from my attempts of pushing it down to get the slide over it. Second many shavings in several places including the back of frame and the rails in the front, the right side rail is more then just a shaving it is a deep cut/shaving.

While I own 3 other kahrs a pm9, tp9 and a K9, I am aware that the shaving is fairly normal until it is completely broken it, however the deeper one concerns me a little bit.

The biggest concern is the ejector and the process of getting the slide back on the frame. This seems odd and seems like it would cause problems in the future with ejector.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help re assemble the slide without causing these issues with the ejector or is this something that will be fixed after the break in period and is anyone else experiencing this?

As for the shavings, the one on the right seems deeper then normal and I am wondering if anyone has had the same issue and is it something to worry about?

I would take pictures, however I am out of town working for a couple of weeks and don't have my camera with me.

Thanks in advance,

Todd

no doubt we really need some photos. My P380 has enver been a breeze to get the slide back on, Do try to force it past the stop, . don't pull the trigger while trying to put the slide on either. Part of the issue is the back of the slide trying to ride over the cocking cam. Its a bugger, give it a good tap when it stops where it is stopping and see what happens. Ur not gonna break anything either. I have over 1300 rounds through my P380 and it is still not near as easy to get back on as my PM9.

If you just can't get it on, call kahr and ask for IAN, explain all u can to him . He will tellyou to send it back, then u insist they pick up the good on their dime, not yours. Its new..

You should probalby try putting another 100 or so rounds through the gun to. Things do change, for some reason. That is assuming u can get the slide back on to. When it stops just tap it further. I do think it will go...

The shaving part, could be deemed normal, as the slide doesnt run on the polymer rails once on the gun, so more than likely your slide is doing this mating process of taking off any excess polymer that is in the way of the slide...

again photos might help to...

Thanks for the response, what about the ejector pushing it down, is that something you are having to do as well to get the slide back on? I did get it back on by doing that per the manual. I am pretty sure the shaving is normal so will keep on breaking the gun in and see what happens from there.

Are you saying once I put the slide on the frame just tap it once it is stopped at the ejector? For some reason that doesn't sound like it will work as it still has to go over the ejector.

I wish they didn't make this so difficult, heck my K9 which is the hardest to field strip is easier than this weapon. LOL

1300 rounds of 380, were in the world did you find that much 380 ammo hahaha I am still having challenges but every time I see some I pick it up! BTW the critical defense ammo is amazing in 380, I ran some ballistics and wow it is some powerful stuff for a 380 round!

Todd indeed some have had to push down on the ejector. I never did on mine but I also pull up on the slide while pulling down on the frame, so maybe that combination helps me some. I would consider that ejector thing to be a normal thing, so don't worry abot that. I shot those 1300 rounds months ago, since then I have not been able to find any 380 ammo and I will not pay that high price for 380 ammo. I had rat holed 380 ammo before I ever got my P380, so I was ready when it came, now though all gone and like everyone else, can't find any.. I think your 380 is really ok, more rounds will helps ome but it willnever slide on like your bigger kahrs, Mine does not even today, but I have mastered its little quirks to. fool me once your fault, fool me twice my fault. I got that little buggers number now..:banplease: I shoot corbon power ball out of my 380. and gold dots. either one works great. I like the power ball for it fine feeding qualities...
I really don't carry my P380 hardly anymore, as my PM9 is my 24/7 pocket buddy...

I would carry my pm9 as my bug, however my wife stole the darn thing from me after it came back from Kahr for deburing. Their service was fantastic, I had the gun back in 48 hours and to my surprise they put night sights on it for me, however they still owe me 32 bucks for a refund on a holster and there is a glitch or something, they say it was processed on Feb 15th, however my credit card doesn't show the credit nor do my bank statements. LOL but free night sights for 32 bucks makes it somewhat ok by me.

I prefer the critical defense as the ballistics are much better than anything I shoot, but everyone has their preference.

The p380 is my bug on my ankle and my primary is my k9 or Tp9 depending on what I am wearing. I also use the pm9 when the wife takes the tp9( she loves the tp9) but its not that often. LOL

When I was at cabelas today some guy was behind me and had a huge bag( probably 500 rounds) of 380 ammo and he found it in the bargain cave. was originally priced at 159 but he picked it up for 39 bucks! I was so mad, didn't even want to talk to the guy cause he told me he doesn't even own a 380 and was going to resell them. Jerks like that is why there is no 380 around!

Todd
P.S. great talking with you! Love to talk with other Kahr lovers!

My P380 slide almost glides on by itself.

I just slide it on and there is absolutely no resistance until the back of the slide hits the cocking cam. Then, contrary to what some say, I pull the trigger, very slightly. If you pull the trigger about a 1/16 inch, the cocking cam lays down just a bit, and the slide can easily be pulled all the way back.

Thanks, I will give that a try next time I field strip it, I guess it will take some tinkering with to get it on my gun.
