I just got some Speer 230-grain Gold Dot Short Barrel in from an order I placed on Dec. 19. I thought I would show the difference between this version and the regular Duty GD's and the Bonded Remington Golden Sabers. I re-boxed the partial box of BGS. It doesn't come in 25-rd boxes... just 50-rounders.
I also ordered a bunch of .40 180-gr GDSB and +P 9mm 124-gr GDSB from Ammo to Go, who promptly charged my card and later sent me updates that shipping would be delayed until sometime between 14 and 18 January!
I'm glad that I didn't wait until I got low on SD ammo!
Anyhow, here are some pictures.
First the Speer 230-gr GDSB's, then I add a 230-gr DUTY round and a round of 230-gr Bonded Remington Golden Sabers for comparison. The duty version of GD's has a narrower deeper cavity. The Short-barreled version's cavity is wider and about 1/10" shallower for more rapid expansion from a short-barreled pistol like our Kahrs. Then there are some closeups of the cavities. With the Remingtons, remember that BJHP means Brass-Jacketed hollow Points, not BONDED ones. Even the dealers are confused sometimes. The Golden Banner is added to the Bonded versions.
The Bonded Golden Sabers can be differentiated by the green sealant around the primers... from the regular un-bonded GS.

That's what I run in both my Kimber 4" 1911 and my P45. Very accurate in both pistols.
I'm down to about 70 rounds, but I have 3 100# boxes of component bullets. I don't like to carry reloads as defensive ammo, but I will if it comes down to it.

I got my .40 S&W and 9mm Speer GDSB's in today. The .40 S&W 180-gr GDSB are like the .45's in that they resemble the flying ashtrays... wider and shallower cavities. Pix to compare. I'll have to hurry because Wifey is waiting for dinner... tube steaks tonight... Ball Park Angus Beef... and a few NY Deli ones, too... BEEF!
Upper left: 50-round Duty boxes, upper right: 20-round boxes (one made up for BB)
Center left: 180-gr .40 GDSB with 165-gr GD above it in the box.
Center right: 230-gr GDSB with 230-gr GD above it in the box.
Lower picture from upper left: .380 90-gr GD, .40 S&W 165-gr GD, .45 ACP 230-gr GD, and
Lower from left: 9mm 124-gr GDSB, .40 S&W 180-gr GDSB, and .45 ACP 230-gr GDSB.
More later! Got to feed Wifey!

We had to watch the premiere of Justified, too, from last night! The marshall was using a Glock instead of a 1911.:(
It seems that I've shot up all of my Buffalo Bore +P 90-grain Gold Dots. What I have left, including the last bunch I bought at Outpost Armory, is the older bonded JHP, but not the Speer bullets.:( I found that my P380 was loaded with regular Gold Dots. I need to reload with the +P BB.
I took a picture of what I have left and it has oxidation or corrosion on the lead. I always make up some smaller boxes to store the BB in because they have a one-size-fits-all box of 20 that's big as a 25-round box of 12-gauge shells... humongous for storage!
In the last photo are two .380 rounds to the right... a Critical Defense and a Buffalo Bore +P Gold Dot. I'll have to find some more of those. I think they are the most recent batches of BB. The two to the left are 124-gr 9mm Golden Saber and 135-gr Hydra-Shoks.
I acquired the CD before I got my first P380 and sold them without trying them.
Hopefully, I can get to the range tomorrow and try the 180-gr GDSB's., though I'm kind of worried about the PM45 coming back then. Jay said probably Friday for delivery.

I actually have boxes of Speer GDHP Short Barrel in
38 Special, 40 S&W and 44 Magnum.
Just have some boxes of 38 on back order with Midway
and can't figure out how to cancel the back order???
Whatever....
I prefer the Winchester Ranger T-Series 165 gr LE 40 S&W in my H&K guns.
But my Kahr MK40 loves the GDHP 180 gr Short Barrel ammo!
For 38 +P and 44 Mag the GDHP Short Barrel is outstanding.
But my 357 mag revolvers have the same felt recoil with GDHP SB magnum ammo as Remington's Golden Saber round.
125 gr GDHP Short Barrel 357 Mag only runs 990 fps from my snubbie.
125 gr Golden Saber 357 mag run ~1,100 fps.
I'll take the Sabers.
As for my .45 ACP?
Technically the HK45C 3.9" barrel is a Short Barrel by Speer standards.
Industry considers 4" standard for everything except .45 where 5" is standard.
The polygonal rifling does make up for the shorter barrel to some extent in the HK.
But Winchester Ranger T-Series and Federal HST, both in 230 gr +P,
have been chronographed at ~930 fps ~440 E from my gun.
I have 230 gr +P Ranger Ts in my Big Dog .45

Many good choices for 3.3" 45's. I like these two.
