they had plenty of 12ga. #7 shot, .270Win, .410 #6 shot, some .40cal and .38spl, a few boxes of 30-06 and a lot of .22short and CB....but no .22lr or .45acp, or 9mm, or .223, or 7.62x39...
if youre only interest in guns is trap shooting, deer, and squirrels youre in luck.

Mine has some high end 40/45, shotgun and rifle rounds.
Most everything is gone and the shelves are empty.
Forget anything in .223/5.56.
Even my online sources are mostly sold out of any .223/5.56 ammo.
I still have a few top secret sources I'm not willing to divulge at this time.
Even to friends.
So don't ask...

I went to Walmart early this morning and was lucky to get a couple 50 round boxes of Remington 115 grain and 1 box of Federal. I found a couple of boxes of Remington steel cased ammo on the shelf but didn't get it because did not know anything about steel cased ammo. Have since Googled it and found varying opinions about it. Surprise Surprise.
Some say the only thing wrong with it is you can't reload it which I don't do anyway but others say it runs dirty and can be hard on your extractor. I have learned to trust you guys and your opinions. I believe it was only about 50 bucks for a box of 250, which sounds great if the ammo is ok. So what say you experts?

I have quality guns and only use quality ammo.
WWB is as low grade as I'm willing to shoot.
I never use anything but brass.
My HK manuals are very specific about using only brass cased ammo.
I feed my guns, and myself, well.

Thanks everyone. The consensus seems to be don't get it unless I have to. Fortunately I'm not in a place where I need to get it. Do have a little stock built up.
Bawanna also feeling a little rusty. I don't want to use up what I do have until I can replace it. My range membership is up for renewal this month but I think I'm going to wait until ammo is more plentiful again before I renew it. Can't even find 22 ammo to go plink with. Anyway bet that rat is home now bragging about how he escaped the Great Bawanna! :D

of people call WWB low grade,I often wnder if itis becuase walmart sellsit for aroun d $20 a box where as Gander Mty. sells the same stuff for $35 a box. Makes no sense to me. It is brass casing, fmj bullet, certainly not rock salt for a propellant. It willgo bang every time as much as any outter brand will. What makes it dirtier than utters??? I don't buy some of the comments. Just me but,if a gun won't shoot alittle dirty, it ain't much of a gun. Most good shooters keep their weapons clean to,. I am not defending WWB but I am saying IMO it is just not low grade ammo. It ain't +P but again neither is the price. Just sayin.

I've got to say,
I'm thinking a lot more about stocking up on ammo than shooting it.
I've got to break in, and dial in, my new AK.
But after that, I want lots of high end stuff on tap.
Looks like I'll be doing a lot less shooting this year...

Guns and ammo are made for shootin'.
If online sales are banned?
Much of the high end ammo I like will be unavailable to me.
Not that standard stuff is all that bad.
But I get 50 round boxes at 20 round prices.
And I'm spoiled running best of the best stuff.
Hopefully It will just be black gun and mag ban.
With added background check, transfer and sales rules.
But taxing ammo, and gun show / online ammo, is definitely on the table.

I'm just not sure anyone has any control at all over this mad man.
There's going to be a lot of noise-making on both sides. In the end, very little will get accomplished.
Despite the noise, the Democrats don't really want to be responsible for passing an AWB, because they know it will hurt their electability. But, they won't pass-up the opportunity to blame the Republicans for blocking their efforts to increase gun control. In return, the Republicans will take credit for preserving the constitutional right.
It's a game. Neither party really cares about what's best for the country. The budget drama of the past year exemplifies that. They care about themselves, their party, and about getting re-elected.

I've been having trouble finding .223 to purchase. Everywhere I went they were sold out. Then over the weekend a friend came to see me and brought me 7 boxes of ammo....for FREE! I was thrilled. You see he works for the DEA and gets as it by the bushel...also for free. Also they use nothing but .45 ACP for their pistols and I don't even want to tell you how much of that he told me he has. I actually had a call from an online ammo distributor Monday.
He said he was the owner and had never seen anything like this.
Three of four boxes of high end .223 I had ordered he didn't have.
Was very apologetic, said he could refund my money.
Or offered to switch three of the boxes with some like high end stuff that just came in.
And hadn't even been checked into stock yet.
Naturally I accepted the swap.
I've had to go to expensive, and little known, distributors to get the good stuff now.
I feel like I'm making drug deals at this point - LOL!
I've never seen anything like this either...

I KIND of understand 5.56 ammo being sold out, and maybe even semi-auto handguns, but why .22LR? What's special about it? My local walmart is still sold out of everything but hunting cartridges, 357 mag, and 44 mag. They had JUST got in a few boxes of PDX .45 and .40, but nothing in 9, 380, or 223...and the 22lr was barren.

we seen this in the ammo thing a few years back when obummer got in office. Took quite awhile for my local wal mart to get ammo back on the shelves. I forsee a year downt he road this time for any ammo to start showing up and lasting longert than a day. I will not buy at Gander Mt. Noramally they put people in jail for robery. How these people get away with it is beyond me. Its winterhere, so shootin much is not gonna happen with me, I do have an inside at our wal mart as my wofe works there and keeps a constant eye on the sprting goods section plus the magager of the sproting goods is one of my old time class mates and friends. She said I willget first shot at 500 rounds of wwb or federal fmj when it hits the storeroom. I don't wantto drain them , so I said 500 wou7ld be fine..
I am hard pressed to understand the 22 thing though, other than people by what ever they feel they have to have... At least our walmart and most all that I have been in , never jacked the prices of their ammo to fokk the public. What small gun shops we have around this area certainly jacked the hell out of their ammo. the Indy 1500 gun show in coming in a week or so and It willbe a mad house and ammo will be sky high for they know they can get it, but I alsop woold be very surprised if there is alot of ammo for sale for most are legit gun dealers and they are probablyall sold out. Have not decided if I want to even go or not, as I would be a gacker and not a buyer anyways.

It was a b!tch finding online places with ammo last month. I just wanted to get some more Gold Dots Short Barrel Version and many places had prices but nothing in stock. I got my .45's but I'm still waiting on my 9mm and .40S&W. I'm glad that I didn't wait until I got LOW! Ammo to Go took my money immediately and then said it would be 3 weeks at least before possible shipment... about a month from the order! I wonder how much money they raised that way!?
I may just shoot the range's ammo on my next visit. I want to keep my "reserves" and not worry about resupply.
I ALWAYS look at the shelves in Walmart, but just for information on prices and availability. They haven't had anything I would buy, and the main calibers... I only look for 9mm, .40 S&W, & .45 ACP, have been absent, except for the odd box of Tula.
I'm kinda wishing I had bought some of the "canned" stuff for long-term storage or trade... even stuff I can't shoot... for trade items. Paper dollars may become even more worthless for necessities!

I used this one at a buddies house:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/116718/laserlyte-laser-trainer-target-system?cm_vc=subv1159951
In a Taurus PT 24/7 9mm holding this:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/510737/laserlyte-cartridge-laser-trainer-fits-all-9mm?cm_vc=OBv1116718
It was fun, but hated the gun (ergos sucked for me). It was cool to be able to pull from the holster (some Fobus thing) and take the "shot" safely. We used a laser pointer pen to do the display and reset bit and that worked good. Only downside, forget double taps...
they have a new system:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/159951/laserlyte-lts-reaction-tyme-target-system
That sounds cool, anyone here tried it yet?
No Idea on Battery life, my buddy has not had his that long. The target was hung on a bedroom wall, on a nail that (normally) holds a family photo (the wives were out shopping) during our shooting session. We shot from different doorways down the hall and in different lighting conditions. Normally (wife at home) the target hangs on a nail in the garage...
May have to get one myself soon, but I need a bunch of those $80 buck "bullets" (every dang caliber ) to shoot with my fleet.

Went to a WalMart in Everett, WA today. No 9mm, no .22lr.
Other stuff was also absent but I was only looking at those two.
The shelves were pretty bare.
Interestingly, about a block away a LGS/Range (Everett Branch of West Coast Armory, just opened) had many cases of pistol ammo available, and they were selling by the box too.
The prices weren't unreasonable. For Federal 9mm 115gr FMJ range ammo, they wanted $270/case (1000 rds) or $13.99/box. Basically, the same prices you'd pay at the range before the freakout.
I'm used to paying $0.19/round when buying bulk online, but in this crazy market, I thought $0.27/round was not outrageous, so I bought two cases.
I was sitting pretty good with 9mm before, but now I'm all stocked up to weather this market.

We went to Cabelas yesterday because a friends father works there and said they have bulk 22 they just got in. It was all gone of course when we got there. They had lots of 17HMR, a lot of 7.62x39 Herters, not sure thats any good or not. Had two shelf sections usually brimming with 22 and most of the bulk deals on display in the aisles. None to be found.
Had several boxes of 22 short but I have quite a bit of that.
I usually shoot at least one of my 22's every trip so the meager stock I have won't last long. I'll have to conserve until I score some more.
I just returned from Walmart. This evening, they had one case of Federal 9mm FMJ, and 2 cases of PPU 9mm. Stock is still trickling in.

My experience with UMC has always been brass cased. It is decent ammo. Weak/slow/dirty but for range fodder works fine. I've had some with bullets pushed too far or primers missing/wrong, etc. But overall I'm talking about 10 rounds out of 1000.....

All this ammo business with Walmart is getting confusing to say the least. A friend of mine just picked up 6 Value packs of 22's that were not in the store the other day. He talked to the manager about future ammo sales and he says he should have a new shipment in in a couple of days. I gotta tell ya,This leaves me more confused than a breast fed baby in a ***** bar. :001_huh:

Stopped by my local Walmart this am. Found them remarkably well stocked, shelves were full. ( they were bare last week). Had Federal and Remington 9mm FMJ. Saw .45, .40, 380. Lots of various rifle rounds, though no .223 or .22LR. Hope this is a sign that things are calming down.
I was told by the department manager, that Walmart is discontinuing Remington UMC 250 round Mega Packs. They are clearing the warehouses of the stuff. Too bad, because it's a decent value. Buy it if you see it, cuz it will be gone soon.

The website is probably not updated quickly enough to keep up. He should have placed the order over the telephone.

What Walmart does or does not do doesn't concern me much. It's interests have to do with Walmart...period. It's purpose is to make as few people as rich as possible, like any US corporation. Any other motive for any action it takes is pure fantasy.
But as for any retailer having 10,000 rds in to sell and the estimated timeline for how long that would last...I would expect that ANYONE right now who gets 10,000 rds from a supplier will not be able to fulfill ANY new orders with that small an amount of ammo, and I would doubt they would be able to fulfill even a small percentage of backlog--orders they accepted when their web sites indicated they had ammo available.
I would expect 10,000 rds to fulfill 10 orders, on average, and to be gone basically as it arrived. Sorry to those who weren't ordering ammo in October and November, or for those who wanted anything but 20 rd boxes of ridiculously expensive 'exotic' or 'designer' ammo. Reloading components were gone weeks ago.
I'd sooner fight with a kitchen knife and harsh language than waste my time walking through a Walmart looking for ammo. It can't disappear from the American landscape fast enough to suit me, and good riddance.

Wal Mart?
You think the other stores are different?
Tell me the name of the store that is working with its suppliers to increase the amount of US made goods in their store to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars worth of US made goods in the next couple of years.
That store would happen to be WAL MART.
Way back in the 70's when I mentioned I was going to Wal Mart and was told that K Mart was cheaper I mentioned that Wal Mart sold better quality US made goods and one day they would regret their K Mart shopping.

When the US govt under President Bush sent out those tax rebate checks I invested in US made goods.
Couple of US made firearms and some US made ammo.

My bad.. I didn't know anything about the umc yellow box so when I got home I googled it.. ran across this comment from another forum and then assumed it was steel. :o
Remington UMC Yellow Box
"Just saw some I thought was a decent price for 45ACP (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?toolid=10029&campid=CAMPAIGNID&customid=CUSTOMID&catId=267&type=2&ext=170968829170&item=170968829170). Store clerk (who knows me as a customer and is a shooter) said, "You know these are not brass? Remington calls them metallic. They are not reloadable".
I wish I had known then what I know now. Haven't seen it again since. :(
Apologies if I messed any one up.:blushing:

Grotman,
The confusion is understandable. The box is labeled with the following: "Metal Case". Note that it does not say steel casing, but to some people, metal means steel.

UUM be careful I think some are brass and some aren't BUT I aint dead sure.
The steel cases should in all honesty be no worry. Someone mentioned that they want their cases to be softer than their firearms. IF your firearm was made of the mild steel the cases are made of it would not work for very long. Think of rebar that one can bend...
Generally the issue with steel cased ammo is the coating they put on them to prevent rust and that they do not expand to seal the chamber as well as brass and thus the chambers gets dirty and then the cases can stick and when that happens the extractor doesn't extract the case.
Yet all of this is just stuff I understand from reading and I have no amount of real experience to amount to anything.

I've had discussions with friend and have done some internet reading on the subject, and what I understand about steel cased stuff is:
1. Once upon a time the coating they used for rust prevention was a kind of shellac which, if you didn't scrub your gun between each shooting session, would eventually gum it up. Supposedly newer coatings are not as bad about that.
2. The thing about the casings not expanding and much and getting the gun dirtier from blowback.
3. Shooting ranges recycle their brass, and they're lazy about using magnets to pick the steel cases out, so they make rules about not using steel cased ammo in their ranges. They often justify this with a variety of misinformation. Not sure how aluminum stuff factors into this.

Most all steel cased ammo is foreign, probably areason for that to. I shy away from it . When wal mart has wwb i sotck I can't find any ammo lower in price that works as nice and is american made

When I was stocking up on ammo for SHTF situations, I bought mostly brass. But I also picked up some steel-cased stuff because it was cheaper, and because I wouldn't be tempted to shoot it, so I'd be guaranteed to have at least SOME always on hand.
I figure if a situation arises that requires me to dip into the steel-cased stuff, then all negative aspects of it will vanish and I will be damn glad to have it.
Stopped at wally world today to pick up 200lb. of dog food, walked by the gun racks, few shotgun shells, not much else, spied 5 boxes of 380, 100rd boxes. I mentioned to Ed, as guy who works there, that I must have missed the truck, no 9mm ammo. He said, " hey wait", and pulled 6 boxes of PPU off the back of the shelf. $14.97 a box of 50, made in Sebria, hey, maybe it will shoot.:)

Is confusing. Went home last night and compared a round from the yellow 250 count box and the 50 count green/white box. At least to naked eye they appear exactly the same.
Thanks,

My local Walmart's been out of 9mm range stuff for over a month. Today I stopped in and they had 4 hundred rd and 25 fifty rd boxes of Federal 115 gr. They also had a sign saying there's a 3 box limit. I quick did the math and figured 3 boxes of 100 is better than 3 boxes of 50 and snatched them right up.

my walmart today had 4 boxes of the 100 round federal 45s and a couple boxes of the 50 round federal 9mm. They also had a 3 box limit . Said to many dealers coming in and buying their complete stock. The 45s did go from 29.99 to 32.17 still a good price.
I stop by Walmart almost daily, as it is on my way home. That strategy has paid off nicely in the last few weeks. I've been able to score quite a bit of .38, .357, 9mm, .40 and .45.
Today, I got skunked. But the good news is my store still has not posted a purchase limit. So, next time they have stock, I hope to buy whatever I need.

My son has an insider at ours who hopes to score us some 22 next time they get some in. They had 525 round packs last weekend for I think he said 14 bucks or so. We went but of course it was all gone.
No limits in place that I'm aware of. I told him to set aside 4 or 5 of those pacs for us, I think my kid has the money.
I usually have a lot of 22 but not so much right now. Use to have people bring in ammo, usually 22 for disposal. Safest way to dispose is down the barrel of my 22's.
Had one older lady come in a couple years ago, said she had 4 boxes of ammo to dispose of, thought it was 22. Told her to bring it in, she wanted help. I thought 4 boxes ain't that big. She had 4 bricks of 500. Unopened, not damp, like off the shelf at Wally World. A good day for ammo disposal.

Mine too. Total of 7 boxes where there once was about 500. 1 20 gauge 00, 2 7mm, 1 243, 1 12 gauge slug, 2 5.56. That's it. The LGS was stocked with every caliber, including 223 and 5.56 which surprised me. Not a lot, but enough to get some anyway. Prices were ridiculous, but it is a seller's market right now.

Things change fast. 2 days ago I posted how my Walmart was stocked up. Today no pistol calibers in stock and now a 3 box limit per cust, per day. They did happen to have 6 20rd boxes of AE.223; Now they have 3.
Well, it happened. My store posted a purchase limit of 3 boxes. And as luck would have it, they had a case of AE .223!
My wife and I each bought 3 boxes; separate transactions. I came home with 6 boxes, and left the rest of the case there for someone else.
I hate sharing.

my local wmt, told me the same thing today, 3 box limit per day per person.they zero ammo in the store, the shelves were totally empty even shot shells were gone. the gal toldme that the new policy is now like this: if ammo comes in on a truck druing the day it allg oes back in the bin in the back romm and is not put on the shelves until 7 am. the next morning when they open. she said u be here at 7 am and what we have willbe on the shelves for sale, 3 box liit. she couldnot tellme if they were gettingin any 9mm at all as ehs asys until we open up the crates, we don't know. The 3 box limit sounds to me like it willbe wmt policy nation wide, she claims small dealers were coming in and buying everyting tey had every day. She says wmt will not jack up their prices either, like damn near every dealer around this area is doing. I won't pay it, period. If i have ta shoot less for awhile until the pipe line fills up that is fine but I am not gonna get ripped by greedy dealers. My buddy works at a sporting clays range and he said their business has come to a halt as shot sheels are just about as scarce and prices have damn near doubled so people just quit for awhile...

They didn't have anything I wanted a few days ago, but today I got my limit of 3 boxes of Federal Champion 100-round 230-gr FMJ .45 acp for $32 something. They stilll had at least 2 or three boxes and some 9mm FedChamp 115gr as well for $13.97 a box of 50. That was too high for me... still shooting that same stuff I got for under $10 3 years ago when the limit was 6 boxes.
You have to really look at the shelves... everything isn't out to the front.
