Anybody got a Kimber ultra carry II and if so what do you think about it? Does it run good, nice to shoot, etc???

I've got an itch for a compact 1911 and it looks like it's the lightest of them all. Lighter is better.

The others I have been looking at are the Colt Defender and Sig compact. The Sig is 28 oz. but the kimber is noticeably lighter at 25 oz. Cant find a Colt around town anywhere.

I have the Ultra Crimson Carry and like it a lot. It had a few failures to return to battery when new and when dirty. I haven't noticed that lately though. I read about how the 3" 1911s are a problem but that has not been my experience. I shoot it well and once broke in it functions fine. I don't carry it much though. My PM45 is just more comfortable to carry and I shoot it well too.

Yep! The Kimber Ultra's rock!

This is my wife's favorite gun. She even used it for her CCW class and qualification shooting, back when you had to shoot for Arizona'a permit.

I get to shoot it occasionally too . . . and clean it, of course.

Checkering don't look to positive there Tucson, is that something I need to work on? Nice piece of wood though.

Since it's the wife maybe I could whittle some and add some bling in the middle.

My friend has the Ultra Crimson Carry II, it has about 500 rounds through it and still will not feed quite a few brands of Hollow Points. They said to put another 300-500 rounds through it, and then try again. He's polished the feed ramp and done all he can to make it feed the HP ammo. Other than that, he really likes it, just be prepared for a possibly very long break in period. I think the manual says something it needs something like a 300-500 round break in period anyway. And we thought Kahrs are fussy.

Yeah, well, it's just a cheap copy of the Bawanna grips by that old lady in Kalifornia, Esmeralda. What can you expect?

Sheryl likes them because they don't rub her delicate skin. Every now and then, I see a fairly nice scale on eBay and think of you. But, we have too many grips already.

I shot this gun this afternoon and it was sweet. Not quite as sweet as the CBOB with your Bawanna Super Thins, but most of the holes were in or pretty close to the bull at 15 yards. I seem to string more vertically with this smaller frame, but side to side is always tight.

Thanks for thinking of me, sir!

Well when/if she ever feels the need don't hesitate. I'm ready to whittle for ya. Esmerelda does some very nice stuff, I can't take nothing away from her but the few I looked at she wasn't giving away either.

Haven't looked in a long time, maybe I'm out of touch.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II and like it a lot. It has been flawless in operation, it's fun to shoot, and I have been able to shoot it very well by my standards - almost the same as my government-sized Colts.

It does have one peculiarity, which is that the 3" barrel requires a takedown procedure that is slightly different than that of a government or commander sized 1911, but that has not been an issue for me once I understood it.

Here it is pictured with my MK9 Elite. Compared to the MK9, the Kimber weighs 3 oz more and the grip is just long enough that I can get all my fingers around it, which works better for me.

This is my favorite 1911 .45 carry gun to shoot. I can shoot it all day at the range and still want to shoot more but be out of ammo. It has been 100 percent reliable and very accurate.

Kimber Compact Stainless 4" bull barrel. Very light and easy to holster carry. Aluminum frame, stainless slide. Same size grips and mags as officer size.

Love my Kimber Ultra CDP 9mm. Runs great and hits where I aim.

Colt Defender is great too.

I ended up getting the citadel officers model, 1000 rounds of practice ammo, and a set of bawanna grips for the price of the kimber. Happy so far.

I love mine. I have had no problems with it at all. I just put a set of Crimson Trace master series grips on it. At 25 ozs. it carries pretty good.

I bought one about two years ago. When I first got it it would not fully go into battery on the first round from a full seven round magazine. If I loaded five or six rounds, no problem. The mag also wouldn't work reliably in my SIG C3 or my STI. I bought two KimPro Tech mags and that solved the problem. It's irritating that Kimber would include a sub-standard mag with a fairly expensive pistol, especially when they make some good ones.

BTW to the original poster, my STI Escort weighs 22 ozs.

I have had one for several years now. I have had no problems with it. I carry it in cooler weather here in Florida.

I have had an Ultra CDP for 4 1/2 years 4,000 round later and a 4 1/2 lb trigger( I scaled it tonight) it's great! It's the one gun nobody will get off of me. Oh and I also like my Kimber Custom and my Sig RCS too.

I also have the Tactical Ultra II and I have shot a couple thousand rounds with no issues. And for it to be a 3" barrel it is extremely accurate. The only thing that I am going to change on it is the ambi. safety because ocasionally the saftey gets swept off when I put on my seat belt when I have it in a "Yaqui Slide " style holster but not when I carry it IWB. For now the CW45 has taken its place as a CCW.
But to reply to the O.P. I have put my money on Kimbers with no regretts.

I've had an Ultra Crimson Carry for a couple years now with about 500-600 rounds through it. It has problems returning to battery when it gets a little dirty. It feeds fine for the first 3-4 mags but then has periodic problems. I have polished the feed ramp and the area around the chamber entrance. That effort has helped but it still has periodic problems. Accuracy is great and I love the trigger but I rarely carry it. Even if it was reliable I doubt I'd carry it any more because I have better carry options. My Pm45 is reliable, more comfortable and lighter to carry plus I shoot it just as well. I also have a reliable Sig P224 40 that holds 10+1. It is accurate, comfortable to carry and easier to hide than the Kimber. I enjoy shooting the Kimber but it wasn't designed as a range gun and for me has turned into an expensive plinker.

I don't actually keep track, but my Kimber Stainless Ultra II certainly has more rounds on the current recoil spring and is still fine. But, as I recall, Kimber recommends replacing the outer spring on their recoil cartridge around the 600 round mark. I have replaced them a few times in the past whenever Failure To Feed (FTF) issues began popping up.

Soon after I bought pistol, several years ago, it went back to Kimber for a new slide to eliminate the external extractor. At the time, they recommended that 600 round replacement cycle, sold me a few spares, and included them with the pistol when they shipped it back to avoid shipping charges on the relatively inexpensive outer springs.

They were hard to get for a while. So, I currently have a couple spare complete recoil cartridge assemblies for convenience.

I bet that would eliminate all of your FTF issues.

A new recoil spring is on my to do list but the problem has existed since it was new. Didn't send it in earlier because I hadn't reached the break in total which I think kimber says is 500. I wanted to try the polish and different mags before the recoil spring. Springs are next to try but if that doesn't work it will go back to kimber. Thanks for the suggestion though.
