I’ve been looking for a sub-compact 9mm pistol for probably 6 months now. I looked at just about all of them; Kahr CM9, Sig P290RS, Sig P938, Berreta Nano, Kimber Solo, M&P Shield and Ruger LC9. I had narrowed the list down to the P290RS and the CM9. I had held them both in separate LGSs over the last few weeks and really liked them both. Today I walked into a LGS in another nearby town while passing through and he just happen to have them both in stock, as well as couple Shields and a Nano. So I was able to compare them all side by side. I walked out with the CM9!
Got it home and detail stripped it, cleaned it and lubed it. Man was it dirty! I was looking for the take down to be a bear after reading a lot posts around the net, but I didn’t find it difficult at all. Just ease the slide back a tad, tap the takedown lever with a screwdriver handle to get it started, line up the marks, and out she came. Anyway, I can’t wait to shoot it.
Man you are lucky. Every LGS within 50 miles of me is sold out of every handgun, long gun, and ammunition.
So I ordered my new CM40 and should have it next week. Now the challenge is finding ammo to try and break it in, but shelves are bare.

Yeah, this guy is a large volume dealer, so I guess he had stocked up. He had lots of ammo in all calibers from a variety of different manufacturers. He also had quiet a few handguns and long guns. I even seen a Sig rifle sitting on the shelf for sale, think it was a 516.

I like my CM9 better than the Shield I had as well. Now if my holster would come in I could start carrying it!

What sort of holster are you going to get? I am trying to organize a group buy for a pancake style kydex holster. They are pretty cheap, and very low profile. Check my thread in this forum.

I'm not sure yet. I was thinking maybe a kydex Alabama Pocket Holster and possibly something like Crossbred Minituck or a Sticky holster. The Sticky could pull double duty as a pocket holster and IWB holster, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with an IWB holster that doesn't have a clip. Truth is I'll probably try several before I settle on a few. My intention is to carry it in my right front pocket the majority of the time, but I'll just have to experiment with it and see what works best for me.
If you are looking at Albama Holster Company keep looking. I waited 15 weeks for a simple pocket holster for my LCP and received crappy communication. At the same time I knew of 5 other people waiting just as long.
Pj holsters is much begter quality, wait time, and communication.

I got a chance to shoot the new CM9 today. I put probably 75 rounds through it, including some American Eagle 115g FMJ, American Eagle 124g FMJ, UMC 115g FMJ, UMC 115g HP, and some Speer Gold DOT GDHP 124g. The only issue I had with the pistol was the slide locked back after the first round of the first magazine of the UMC HPs. I had ran probably 30 rounds through it at that point. I’m guessing that it was shooter error and I must have had my thumb on the slide stop lever or something, because it never happened again. It also ran fine by sling shoting the first round into the chamber, which Kahr recommends against.
Overall, I’m well pleased with it on the first outing but I have a few issues to resolve. First, I find the stippling on the front of the grip to be way too aggressive. No more than I shot it, it worked on my fingers pretty good. So I’ll pick up some Talon grips for it and that should solve that.
Second, the long trigger pull is going to take lots of practice to get proficient with. But that’s a shooter thing and not the gun’s fault. I like it and wouldn’t want a short trigger pull on a pocket gun, but it’s just something I’m going to have to practice with. I caught myself jerking the trigger on several occasions which was causing me to be off target of course. I’ve always had a bad habit of jerking triggers in anticipation of the gun firing and the long trigger really brought that to light today. When I took my time and staged the trigger, I was getting probably 3” groupings at 7 yards. Not too bad for someone that hasn’t fired a handgun in well over a year.
I’m thinking the Talon grips will help with accuracy as well, because I got to where I was dreading gripping it due to my fingers hurting.
It is a little snappy also. I took my S&W 66-2 357 revolver and Browning Hi Power 9mm for comparison. After shooting the CM9 for a while switching to those 2 was like shooting a 22. Haha.
Oh, one other issue. The feed lips on the magazine are extremely sharp. My eventually ended up cutting my thumb on them loading the magazine. I'll have to sand them down a bit as suggested in Jocko's thread.

Wow. Guess that would be one of those order it and forget purchases. I'll check them out.
Very nicely written range report.

You may want to try one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Butler-Creek-9mm-45-Universal-Unloader/dp/B001HBHNHE).

I installed a set of the rubberized Talon grips and shot the CM9 some more today. I ran another 100 rounds through it. It ate everything I fed it flawlessly, which included American Eagle 115gr FMJ & 124 FMJ and some Magtech 115gr FMJ. Not a single hiccup.
The Talon grips made a tremendous difference. They are an awesome product! The inside of my fingers begged for more when I stopped.
Thus far I'm thrilled with the CM9. It's great shooting little pistol. I'm getting better but still have some experiementing to do getting use to the trigger. I have large hands with kind of long fingers and I've always positioned the trigger about halfway between the end of my finger and the 1st knuckle on other guns. On the little Kahr, it's more comfortable to place the trigger in the joint of the 1st knuckle. If I don't then a lot of the time my knuckle hits the slight hump of the trigger guard when I pull the trigger. What position do you guys, especially those of you with large hands, place your finger on the trigger of this gun?
I also got a Sticky pocket holster for it. It seems to be a good little holster, especially for a quick trip to the store or something. It also holds really well IWB and disappears. It's a tad too bulky for front pocket carry I think, so I have a PJ pocket holster on order to try as well.

I found mine only took about 50 rounds to be broken in. After that I was able to fire Tula without any issues, and if it will cycle Tula...its broken in.

good report, I always just considered shootin a gun as breaking it in. I know kahr recommends 200 rounds before u piss ur pants over sumpin but basically if u buy a gun your expected to shoot it. M PMJ9 with 32K is still for megetting broken in. I doubt if I ever break it in, as I really don't know what to look for, as it worked from shot #1 to now over 32K shots later. Humm and they say somehwere else GLOCK PERFECTION??? like their the only ones????

I am a glock guy, but they aren't the end all of pistols. I've never had an issue removing a glock from a box and firing the crappiest ammo available from it.
My g19 has been my workhorse for year and is my primary carry piece. My new cm9 is going to be my spring/summer CCW.

I put another 50 rounds of 115gr WWB and 50 rounds of 124gr WWB NATO through it this afternoon. On round 3 of the NATO rounds, I had my first failure, a FTF. It ran the rest of them without issue.
