Well going through my LGS was economically best, i.e. free. But the wait was looooooong IMHO.
I haven't been able to shoot it yet, but the notch is cut (looks like by hand with a dremel), the feed ramp looks like glass, and best of all,,,, they did some sweet trigger job.
The pull is right at 4 pounds and breaks without any harshness or over travel. It wasn't anywhere near that good when it left.
I'll give you a range report on the FTF issue tomorrow.

I knew that was coming. I'm just so embarrassed that my 10 year old digital camera doesn't take better close ups. I spend all my money on guns and ammo.
I put the rolled up postit note in the barrel hole for contrast.

Kind of hard to see isn't it. I think the angle is a bit off. Curious what made you think it was done with a dremel although it probably was. It appears some of the things we discovered during Wyns saga are confirmed. I'd love to see a shot of that stripper on the bottom of the slide to see that bevel on the front. Go ahead and go buy a camera, tripod, wazoo big lense, we'll wait. Perhaps take a few pics and take it back, say you didn't like it and buy another gun with the money.

Bawanna, do you stay up late thinking up that kind of stuff or is it just a gift?
I'd love to see a shot of that stripper on the bottom of the slide to see that bevel on the front.
The stripper bevel is very small, I'd say less than a 1/16th of an inch, and is at about 60 degrees. There is no way for me to get a picture of it without the camera scam you suggested. BUT, I checked it out before leaving the shop and my gun has about 1/32nd of an inch gap between the stripper face and the back of the shell. No crunching sound and no interference when inserting a full mag with the slide back.
Curious what made you think it was done with a dremel although it probably was.
The notch that they put in is tiny, as you can tell if you squint real hard while looking at my lousy pictures. Plus you can see the tooling marks around the edge of the notch that look just like when you do that kind of thing with a dremel. On my PM9 the notch is about 1/4 inch across and the sides are square and straight. The one they made on the PM45 is slightly irregular and only about 1/16 inch across.

Look at these pictures. Man, I scare myself sometimes.
The notches, side by side. The bevel on the PM45 from a different angle. The trigger job that Kahr threw in for free.
On the trigger job, what they did was polish the back side of the trigger cam where it presses on the bottom of the striker tab. I know that this picture is not that good. It is now as shiny as the barrel ramp. They may have done more but that is all that I can see.

glad kahr took care of you, Indeed the dremeled or hand filed that notch to be not causing any issue. Doesn't matter if it doesn't look like the rest of the inside of slides. It is OK so all is well. Looks like they did do alittle polishing on the cocking cam for you to.

I agree...24 days is way to long to be waiting on a gun. Each time I sent mine back Kahr had it back in my hands in 8 days...
Either way I'm glad to hear you got it back and look forward to your triumphal praise of work well done.

I thought about doing the notch myself, but since I had the gun only 3 days when the famous "notch" post on this thread, and I didn't want to chance voiding my warranty, I sent it back through my LGS.
I think that I could've done it better, the notch that is, but the rest of the work that they did was well worth the wait.
I looked at it closely last night after posting the second set of pics, and they also replaced the recoil spring assembly. The old ones had been scuffed up pretty badly by the non-notched slide. The polish that they put on the barrel ramp is really quite beautiful.
All that said, it's raining so hard here I can't step outside to shoot the thing.
I'll keep ya'll posted.

Just open the dang winda and shoot that thing, we're hurting with anticipation here. You did good sending it back, it takes patience and it's hurtful to have to part with a brand new toy but a man shouldn't have to grind on a high end brand new gun himself. They are very lucky they don't have to reimburse us for mental anquish while they are doing repair work that really shouldn't be necessary in the first place. It happens to all of em but not much consolation when your on the waiting list to get your shiney new gun back.

im the second owner, if i had a waranty i would have sent it back, but i didn't and it made no sense to spend that much money for something so silple, but like i said if i had a waranty id of sent it back, sorry about this, i dont think id ever have a waranty on a kahr bc id never buy one new, they are way out of line on there prices:eek: imho.

if the gun itself is not 5 years old, kahr would have taken care of you. I have never heard of them ever asking for proof of purchase. Had u called an explained your issue, I have no doubt kahr would have paid to pick up the gun even, fix it and return it pre paid also.
Actually they have many times went beyond the warranty period of 5 years and fixed guns for owners, whether they be first time or second owners..
What you grould out of the way was IMO a no brainer either. You did well by doing it yourself, but again stating that kahr would have taken care of it I don't mind dong some tinkering on any of my guns, as long as I know what my goal is and what I am doing, but there is a line that I will not cross to and therefore it will go back to the maker..

Agreed. jbaker was in a little different positon being a used gun. BUT Kahr would have fixed it no doubt. You did good fixing it yourself, no questioning that. The fact that you need to is a big question but we've been there before. Certainly didn't mean to criticize your own repair, but wouldn't take a chance if I'd bought it new.

it was made in 08 so 2 yrs old, they said when i called , are u the orig owner, i said no im the 2nd ,and they said unfortunantly that since im not the orig owner the gun is not under waranty, icould send it in but id have to pay all charges ,shipping and labor. and to top it off the guy on the phone said that the notch is only cosmetic and it will not have any effect on function  so i did it myself..

Well the rain stopped and the gun runs without flaw. 100 rounds of 230grn FMJ and not one problem. I LOVE THIS GUN. I'll be starting a new thread on magazine choice you may want to look at.

Wooo, big sigh of relief. The rain stopped. No I mean it ran flawless. We're hearing a lot of good reports today. Glad you love it.
A red flag went up on the magazine choice thread, we'll look for that one.

Did you get the guy's name so we can post it as a name to avoid... cosmetic, my butt! Well, I guess you COULD call it cosmetic, 'cause it looks better to have the "notch" on purpose, that to let your recoil assembly batter the extra metal out of the way and cause feed and fire problems until the correct "notch' is formed... yeah... "cosmetic". Gimme a break!
Wynn:rolleyes:

Well said Wyn. Cosmetic enough to cause damage to the recoil springs and cause malfunctions must be really UGLY.
