The clock is ticking my friends, and the NRA is a strong voice for our rights.

Or even better, buy a new gun that comes with a membership.

I had always resisted the NRA, but I made the plunge in December, getting a 5 year membership. It felt good, as well as the Right thing to do to help the fight! :D
Despite my not always agreeing with some stuff/folk here, note my siggy. Wife's one notch above Life, whatever that is, and working her way up.

I was the same way but the current environment has certainly convinced me to join.

I maintain an annual membership, and send an extra $25:00 or $30:00 when I renew.

And now is the right time to join the NRA as well. Indeed in case you missed here, today's news is that what Obama wants to do, he wants to have fleshed out by the end of this week so that he can put forward a formal proposal by the end of this month. Never let a good crisis go to waste after all:

When I was a kid my father talked a lot about the NRA and encouraged me to buy a membership. I thought if he really wanted me to have one he would buy me a lifetime. He talked a lot about what they used to be and he was unhappy about them sliding back on stuff. That was in the 50's, and they STILL haven't stopped sliding.
The day I know for a fact that the NRA has sent a letter to the president and members that there is no way in hell NRA members will ever give up their guns, and there's a lot more of them than you, is the day I join.
Just like the Republicans they have been indoctrinated to "compromise". I believe they surrendered their balls years ago but if I'm going to die rather than give up my guns I want the same commitment from them.

I got the big envelope last night, I can sign up friends and family for 20 bucks, but can renew my annual membership for 30, member loyalty I guess.
600 dollar life membership seems pretty decent though, probably won't see that again for a long time, if ever.

Update!!!
NRA Life Membership is currently discounted to only $300!
As per my earlier post in this thread, I had renewed my yearly membership over the weekend. But $300 for a Life Membership was too good to pass up, so I am now a PROUD LIFE MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA!
I don't know how long this discount is good for, so I encourage you to call now.

Muggsy if you sponsor me I can be a life member for 300 bucks. If you sponsored me and gave me 200 bucks, I got the other 100 and we could make it happen.

Linc, I hate to say this, but I think your talking like a fool. A man should always listen to his father. Who else has done what the NRA has done to promote gun ownership, marksmanship, gun safety and to protect our second amendment rights? I'll pay for your annual membership.

Send me the paperwork and your one hundred dollars and I'll make sure that it gets to the right place, Bawanna. :) I just hope that your membership card doesn't get lost in the mail.

I sense a trick here.
I do see where a Life member can sponsor a annual member by calling a number. Then the annual member just pays 300 bucks.
Not sure exactly how it works and they must really be pushing for members to drop to 600 for anyone. I think the 300 deal is all the time but I never heard of it till now.
Let me think, maybe I'll send the 100 anyhow ya know. Sometimes ya just gotta trust.

I haven't heard of sponsoring a Life Member, but if it's true and you really want to do it, I'll give you the $200. I ain't rich, but I believe in karma. Send me the info.

Reading it I see it mentions relative or family member but also says just find any life member to refer you?????
I need to check with the missus (of course) I was pulling your chain on the 200 but the numbers were correct. If she can find me another 200 I'd love to become a life member.
I almost early renewed my annual membership but haven't done so yet. I gotta renew my gun show membership Sunday too, I always forget and wait till the last minute.
I'll get with ya if I can find the loot.

I think the NRA Life Member offer is new, universal, and no strings or pre-conditions. When I called the number that Tom Gresham tweeted, a nice young lady answered the phone and asked me (before I had a chance to say anything) "Would you like to take advantage of our $300 Life Membership offer?"
No question about a sponsoring Life Member or anything of the kind.

Well I'll see if I can have the missus call for me and get me signed up. Has to be 300 bucks rat holed someplace around the homestead.
I'm kind of jazzed at the prospect of being a life member. It's right up there with being a 1k member on Kahrtalk you know?

It's for real and not advertised anyplace. Call the 800 number and give the nice lady your info. Took all of 5 minutes. I'll explain it to my bride later. Timing is everything.

Somebody mentioned an 800 number but is the 1-888-678-7894 the right number? I'm gonna have the missus call since I'm deaf and I want it to be smooth and easy, less of a beating for me you understand.

Honestly I'm disappointed with the responses that the NRA has given to the recent events. I will likely get blasted here for this but it feels like they don't have a solid basis of what they intend to do or try to do in the wake of all of this. I would like to join but I'm not going to join just to join if the motivation isn't to help but just politically gain whatever.

They have offered the $300 before to veterans and allowed you to pay a portion of it every 3 months. Don't know if they will still let you do that or not.... might ask

Don't Kid yourself. The NRA leadership knows exactly what it's doing. The NRA has been doing since long before you were born.

Another repeat of history that I neglected to remember, happened so many many times one would think I would never get jazzed. I was all jazzed about having the missus call the minute I got home. Sent her a text message to remind me in an attempt to grease the skids prior to my arrival.
Funny thing she wasn't at all jazzed and the silent treatment was in effect the moment I walked in the door.
I've lost control of my kingdom, I provide 90+% of the income and I get told what I can do just like at work. Being deaf is a disadvantage as I can't deal with many things that require a phone.
I intend to address this soon and with no sunrise clause. I will retain my rightful throne. But for the time being I'm still an annual member.
Pondering a very nice Kukri for about half the cost of life admission, might buy it just to tick her off. Damn resident aliens anyhow.

I've been disgusted with some of the NRA's actions. I remember being pissed at them for blowing $60 million or so on a "state-of-the-art" shooting range back in the 70's or 80's!!
They seem spring-loaded to compromise on gun-rights stuff... giving away more than I think prudent. They did/do support Harry Reid as a strong guns' rights advocate!
I finally gave some money to NAGR because they seem more passionate for ALL of our rights and not just LIMITED gun ownership and compromises as the NRA seems prone!
