I took my used mk40 elite 03 to the range today and had four failures to return to batteries. These were odd on that the slide stopped just short of returning to full battery. I also had a failure to fire the slide was in full battery this time,I checked the primer it had a deep indentation so I believe the strikers fine.
I clean and lured the gun before taking to the range I was using sellier and ballot 180 grain CNN ammo. It did not do this with the 180gr golden sabers, this gun is used could this be a recoil sling issue? It's really stiff and the gun is smooth is this is a break in issue maybe? I only shot 50 rounds can you guys here please give some insight into what may have caused these malfunctions? Thanks for any help.

if u have only shot 50 rounds then before panicking give thegun anutter 150 rounds.
Failure to retrun to battery could be just a new gun, although it shold do OK in that area. Also it cold have been some founds that OAL was just to long and the slide could not fully retrun to battery. f it wokd fine with remingon 180 sabers, then I would kinda lean towards maybe ammo issue over gun issue.
I would think more rounds down range would help this gun alot. Somekahrs take those rounds to get right and smooth, some do not. If it wasmy gun I would stick with fmj ammo for break in. why spend alot of bucks on defense stuff until the gun is right. Did u try to refire that one round that had a good primer strike to see what happened. Could also hve been a dud round to. S & B ammo is not bad ammo .. I would suggest if u did not to clean that striker channel to make sure no crapola is in that channel. I don'tthink it is a badrecoil spring as new as thegun is,
I feel more towards giving the gun a couple hundred rounds..

Thanks jocko its a used gun so I don't know the round count,so this could be a break in issue?

Much as it pains me I concur with Jocko. Could easily be a lightly long cartridge. It also could very well be a combination of still newish gun in addition to long ammo or weak ammo etc.
Might even be a weak grip for those few rounds. I'd not be too concerned until you give it a little more time.
Run it slightly wet, avoid weak ammo if possible and keep shooting.
Actually its a good sign that it worked well with the Golden Sabres. That kind of reinforces all of the above.

I think it's limp wristing when shooting a 40 cal. Get a better grip on the gun and all will be well.

Well as I am not on here too often lately, I'll give you my $.02 too.. :D
1 - limp-wristing (until proven otherwise by yourself at the next practice session)
2 - ammo, My 03 MK9 Elite eats everything without fail however there are some seriously out-of-spec mfr. ammo out there, even in the same box so start looking at it.
3 - cleanliness/lubrication, My MK does not like being too dirty nor too dry.
FWIW, my prior Steyr GB would just shoot and shoot sim. to my XD9sc and I have heard (GASP  ) Glocks. Some are more finicky about lube/cleaning than others. Fire a few hundred more through it and then detail strip/clean and lube it.

Shoot it like you stole it. Shoot it some more. Clean it.
Then take it and shoot it some more. Clean it.
Finally, shoot the fokker some more. Clean it.
If it doesn't work great after all that, then call jocko. :D
