Hi. New here. I just made my first post in the new members area.
I bought a K40 covert today and some various ammo. One of the brands I bought was RWS branded ammo. For .40 it's cheap for my area at $17.00/box. I wanted to snag more of it but wanted to make sure it would run well I'm my pistol before I shelled out more money for it. It's FMJ 180gr. Does anyone have any experience with this ammo? Thanks.

I looked it up because I had never heard of RWS. It's Swiss made and is brass cased, so I would say, if it works, go for it.
Very reliable. Feeds well in my PM9 and my other 9mm pistols. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, if I had the opportunity.
I never bought RWS in .40, but at that price in the current market, jump on it.

It's one of the brands that appeared during the last ammo shortage. Walmarts around here sold it. I've shot several hundred rounds of it. Seems perfectly fine ammo, much better than the cheap Russian crap. I'd buy it again.

Okay. I think I just put 2 and 2 together. I think this is the same RWS that manufactures high end air rifles. They're nice!

DON'T use the SPORT Line... I think that's the name. The bullets are copper-colored steel-jacketed and banned at our local range because they are pyrotechnic is nature when the strike hard objects... stones or the CONCRETE floor! You would not BELIEVE the sparks that fly! Take your normal sparkler and magnify that until it fills your field of view from floor to ceiling... startling and a fire hazard!!

Be sure when you buy ANY ammo that the case is NOT just colored STEEL! Use a magnet to check the projectiles!

I don't know what line I bought. They say "match grade" on the box. If it sucks no biggie because I only bought one box.

That's what I've used; orange and black box, if I remember correctly. Worked fine.

I've seen this ammo fired and striking the floor in the range. You would be shocked at the sparks. It is dangerous to use around ANY flammables, especially outdoors!

How is this full metal jacket different from any other brand?

Jeez... most others use copper or brass jackets(Remington)... NO STEEL. This stuff is "copper-coated" MILD steel, but it SPARKS badly and is banned for good reason by a lot of places where they are knowledgeable about the bullet's composition. The copper coating is misleading at best, and dishonest at worst. Copper or brass doesn't cause sparks or fire hazards. This stuff is CHEAP because they used steel, rather than QUALITY copper or brass. It's coated to LOOK like copper for deception! The idea may have been to coat the steel for rust protection, but a lot of people see the copper color and think it's quality ammo... safe for any use. If you don't mind the possibility of STARTING fires... and it's not BANNED where you want to shoot, fine... that's your decision... your conscience can be your guide. I'm just telling you that stuff is dangerous and there are alternatives.

I fired the 50 rounds that I had today. No problems with. I won't be shooting anymore though becauseit seemed like it was loaded quite a bit hotter than it needed to be. Out of the 210 rounds I fired, the RWS recoiled noticeably more than even the Speer GDHP in my k40. I don't mind recoil. It's part of what makes shooting fun but I tend to stay away from ammo that recoils WAY harder than it should in a given caliber. I had the same experience with Fiocchi ammo in a Beretta 92 9mm that I used to own. It made that gun recoil like a .40. I don't know if it's unsafe. I just don't like shooting ammo that's harder on my guns than it needs to be.

Also shot a 1000 rounds thru various 9s - agree works fine. Matter of fact I personally would buy all I could get my hands on. - Outdoor range .
