I think that they should ban those short easily concealable cars with high horse power engines, or force them to register them and license their drivers. That would stop all of this speeding. :)

Looks great, but where is the back seat for my kids? :)
Guess I will stick to my R/T Charger. Plenty of ponies for me, and room for the kiddos.

That's one reason you buy a Vette...no room for kids.... http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g18/myjpegs06/steeringwheel.gif

sorry, dont like it. GM saved me a lot of money. I'll stick to my C6. They can keep the C7. Too choppy and busy for me. The vette used to be less was more in styling. Now it screams look look look at me. Trying too hard.
If the hood was really vented for heat extraction and the high rise look to it was really covering a blower, then I would cut it some slack. But a bunch of crap bolted over the car that has no functionality is a no no for me.

O'Dell, what do you think of the new Stingray?

I watched the official reveal Sunday night, but most of us had a pretty good idea what the new look was all about. All in all, I like it. The interior is particularly nice and the improvement was needed. I like the all aluminum frame and the carbon fiber and magnesium bits to keep the weight down. There is some Viper in the front and the over all look is similar to the Ferrari F12. That's not necessarily a bad thing as the Viper is about 50% more expensive and the F12 cost $330,000. I don't think anyone copied anyone else as the cars were in design in secret at the same time.
The power and price are not yet determined. All GM will say is over 450 HP and 450 foot pounds of torque for the base car. It's obviously is going to cost more to build, but GM is saving some costs by taking more manufacturing in house. They say if you could afford the C6, you can afford the C7. I understand a 600 + HP Z06 and a 750 HP ZR1 are in the works.
Will I get one? Maybe, but I will have to wait until the second year for the convertible.

All the vents are functional. The hood vent removes the air that has passed through the radiator and the front fender "cove" vents remove hot air from the engine compartment. The hood vent provides over 30% more front downforce. The rear fender vents cool the transaxle and the differential using heat exchangers, and the air exits next to the tail lights. The front brakes are cooled through the grill and the rears have ducts underneath. If you want a blower, you'll have to wait on the ZR1 and be able to handle 750 HP.
Personally, I do like it, but it makes my C5 and C6 convertibles look old and outdated. The interior is a massive improvement in materials, comfort, and design. If I do get one in 2015, I'll have to choose which current car to trade in.

If all that **** is functional as you say then my position on the car is softening. Will they have a vert model? 450 hp is not much more than the GS but if it is 100 lbs lighter that helps too.

A very good assessment, O'Dell. You really did your homework. Chevy doesn't have to apologize to anyone about the Corvette! I think it is hillarious that they have to detune them to compete "fairly" with Ferraris and Porches! LOL! :boink:

That is a beautiful picture from the side but the look of the red one doesn't do it for me at all...The red one just looks way over blown like somebody went wild going down the wrong stick on crap aisle at Pep Boys or something ....There are pictures on the internet of the C7 from the rear and you can't hardly tell the Stingray from a new Camaro which is a good looking car with it's square rear lights but I wish they had kept the round tail lights for the Vette...
The grill also looks too wide to me but sometimes you need to see the car in person to get the real picture of how it looks....I could never afford one but if I did win the lottery I would choose a C6 over the way the C7 looks....I think he current C6 is one of the most beautiful classy cars ever built by any manufacturer....

Yep, it's all functional. The convertible will be out in the second year just like the C5's and C6's. 450 hp is not final - they're still tuning, but they said OVER 450 hp and 450 ft pounds. With DI, variable valve timing, and a higher compression, I'm guessing about 470 on the base car. That will go up over the years as with the C5 and C6. Of course we've got the Z06 and ZR1 to come with 600+ and 700+ hp. The 0-60 I saw was 3.9 even with the skinny tires for the base, but that may not be optimal.
It won't be any lighter. They saved 99 pounds on the frame and some on carbon fiber panels, but the LT1 is about 50 pounds heavier than the LS3. They have also added content in other places, especially the interior and electronics. The car is also slightly longer and wider than the C6. It's still a lot lighter than the Viper or F12.
BTW I heard one start up and it was the meanest stock Corvette I've ever heard. I think the after market exhaust companies will take a hit.

I've heard that about the Camaro, but I don't see it. The taillights are similar but certainly not the same and they light up completely differently. The rest of the rear has nothing in common with the Camaro.
We all have our own opinions, but I'd dump my C6 in a heartbeat for one. The C6 was more refined than the C5, and this one is in another league.
And oh, that side picture of the silver car is a picture of the Stingray concept car from 2005. The C7 took some design elements from the Stingray, but they're different cars.

certainly many who knock it, cannot afford it anyhow. It's a nice car.It will sell,I seriously doubt if it get near the expectations of GM in sales numbers either 30K a year is a big stretch IMO.
that being said, I will keep my Porsche..

You may be right in this economy. However in better times Corvette have sold over 50,000 per annum. I'm not sure GM really cares that much. It is a halo car after all. I sold my Boxster to buy my C6 convertible.

Its been many years since they have seen 50K. I think lat few years at leat, they never reached 15K per annum.
I am not a soft top fan of any car, my neighbor across the streethas a boxter with the spre hard top. It looks better with the hard top on IMO, but again this is Indiana and soft tops just are not practical either.
Not gonna make or break GM in sales of 15K or 30K either. .Its an icon and icon's need not be for everyone

For those who think the rear of the C7 and Camaro are the same here's a picture. I included the C7, a Viper, and a Ferrari with the C7 for comparison. I think both the Viper and Ferrari look somewhat contrived. Also a C7 with round lights and no quarter windows - they just don't fit plus there is no air exit for the cooling vents.

The last time the annual production hit 50,000+ was 1984. The C5's and C6's [1997-2013] averaged about 35,000 with a peak in 2007 of 40,000+. The sales started down in 2008 because of the recession and the upcoming C7.
I like convertibles - in fact over half of the cars I've owned were soft tops. Generally, I keep the top down all year.

It is growing on me too
waiting to see what the vert looks like and what the final HP TQ will be. Seems GM just wont put 500 hp through the A6 transmission. For me that is the magic number the new base vete should have. or at least a package option to do so. I guess I always wanted a Z06 vert with auto.

The round rear tail lights could (have) worked (need air flow exhaust ports around them - somehow), but a "design theme" of the C7 is harder-sharper edges instead of the smoother softer transitional edges/curves of previous gens. I like what they have done just fine - I am not one of those "purists" that bemoaned the loss of the flip up air brake headlights nor, now, the loss of roundish taillights. Have owned C3, C5, and C6 - currently without a vette, but the wife has taken a liking to the new one. I do hope it has HD Radio though (just an odd desire in my radio market).

You're right about the A6 transmission. GM is working on a new 8 speed auto, but it may be a year or two before it's ready. However, in the meantime they are talking to Aisin in Japan about using their 8 speed auto in the Corvette. It has been very reliable in high output Japanese and European cars for a couple of years. Whichever way they go, there will be an 8 speed auto in the Corvette soon, and hopefully in the high performance models.

Consider it a anti theft option too, I can't steal your vetter or porsche or Ferrari, I can only work one stick at a time and still steer ya know.
I don't think many even know how to drive a stick anymore these days. I remember my dad wouldn't let me learn on an auto, had to learn on a stick. I tried and tried, to convince him to let me work on everything else and then I'd take on the stick.
I had not trouble taking off or shifting but damned if I could remember to push the clutch in when I came to a stop.
I used to be the designated driver at our high school drags, excellent hand / foot coordination, not so much anymore.
I drove a vette once.

I have one of each - the C5 is a six speed and the C6 is a six speed auto with paddles. I prefer the manual although the auto shifts faster. The newer autos are much faster than manuals so most of the drag cars are auto. I have yet to try one of the new dual clutch transmissions, but they're suppose to be the fastest of all.

Porsches auto is supposably faser than the stick but again that is in the eyes of the beholder/shifter to. It is not about speed as u well know. I see the new cadillac ATS is available with standard shift and it is an option u have to pay for, where normally cars esxpecialy foreighn ones are priced with sticxk shift when the fully know 90% will opt for auto tranny. I i my little mind would not own a Porsche that was not stick, even though their auto 7 speed is faster than sh!t. I have paddle type shifters on my audi and along with the console shifter lever to. I never use the paddle type shifters. It came on the car or I would not have bought it as an option.. I would suspect most vette owners opt for auto tranny, althoughI see they do offer the 7 speed stick as anoption over the 6 speed. why complicate thinbgs with two stick shifts, if it isn't all about dollars. If u were gnna buy the 6 speed u would definitely opt for the 7 speed, justbecuase u can say I got 7 speed of which at leat 2-3 of those speeds would never be used in and around town..

The seven speed manual is only offered in the C7 which isn't out yet. The six speed will be gone after the C6. I was surprised that the auto announced for the C7 was the old six speed like the one in my C6. I know an eight speed auto is on the way and I expect that it will put an end to the six.
You're right that most Corvette buyers opt for the auto at a ratio of about two to one. I bought my C6 used and it was the car I wanted and it had the auto so I took it anyway. When I later bought the C5 I made sure I got the six speed manual because the auto in the C5 was a four speed.
