Is it a lot harder to shoot well at 25 feet with the PM40 than the MK40 since the recoil or is more so the barrel length than recoil when it comes to accuracy?
All else being equal, a lightweight gun will have more muzzle flip than a heavier gun.
Muzzle flip results in more time to reacquire the target for subsequent shots.
Longer sight radius usually results in more accurate shot placement.

I have not shot the MK 40 , but own and love my PM 40, and do not find it difficult at all to shoot well. Don't be afraid of the PM40, you will love it.

My mk40 does recoil more than my mk9 but nothing like my m&p 340 which when loaded with 357's is one to be afraid of.

I have always shot my PM-40 with more accuracy than my CM-9, but I have also always wanted to try a MK-40. Sure the weight will help. A little. I carry a PM-40 daily and worry more about the extra weight carrying it than the reduction in recoil over the PM-40.
I've shot 4" groups at 25 yards with the PM-40, but not rapidly. I've never thought about the timing of followup shots, you won't need many with the 40, LOL. I believe I shot 4 rounds out of 5 on to an 11" paper plate at 50 yards with the same itty bitty hand canon. I love it.
