Here are some pictures of my spring guide. Hope these pictures a clear enough. Seems the rod is banging into the front of the slide hole when it locks back or is fired. Hope you can link to these pictures.I have been to the range 6 times and put 700 rounds downrange. 6 trips 6 cleanings and 6 good sized nicks on the spring guide. Has anyone else had this happen?? Is this normal?? http://s1323.beta.photobucket.com/user/Michelobe46/library/

Which model is it? That doesn't look like the recoil spring in my PM40. I know there is an "old" style and a "new" style available but I don't know when the change was made.

Would the guide rod be a little too short ??

That doen't look like normal wear. Send the pictures to tech support along with a letter explaining the situation. Let them be your guide. Pun intended.

It,s a CM9 got it for Christmas. I,ll send some picks to Kahr. Just wondered if anyone has seen this before. When the slide is all the way back that,s where the recoil spring guide hits the hole on the front of the slide. Thanks for the quick response.

Where is the outer spring?? The outer spring keeps the inner part from going outside the hole in the slide. The outer spring must be put on the recoil guide rod(RGR) with the loose or open end to the front of the pistol. The closed end goes to the rear of the RGR to grip the rod and not be forced over the rear of the RGR assembly.

I wouldn't think that the pistol could be fired without the spring in place, but I guess anything is possible.
Here's a video that every Kahr owner should see BEFORE taking a Kahr apart and trying to re-assemble it!

measure tyhe over al longth of that recoil guide rod. There are two different lengths.
If it measures 1 3/8" long thenu have thw wrong recoil assembly in the gun. I do no tknow what the new length of the cm style slides take but it is longer by around .020. aybe someone her can measure their cm recoil rod and give their exact length.
The outter spirng for your cm also should be 15 coils and ot 13 wich again is the old style.
Your ecoul rod looks mared but certainly IMO OK also. What wyn said about correct installment goes a long waya towardsrecoil assembly life to. When in the gun the rcoil assembly withthe slide closed should be flus with the front of the slide.
U did not stateif u were having any issues with the gun either, so Iam gonna assume all is well in that area, soif the assembly measures out ok, then just shoot it like u stole it and quit worryig about it.

I just made this "Boiler Plate" to keep from having to find all of the references every time I try to point someone in the right direction:
Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by Kahr Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Impatient? Watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lube Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?
There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Sorry took it off for some pictures. It fires fine for now. Had 4 nose dives with the 7 round mags out of 700 rounds. I,m sure the spring will start wearing out from rubbing on those nicks. Just sent Kahr an e-mail and some picks.

Wyntrout Thank You for you post. I have read and followed all the links. This was done before I puchased my CM9. First thing I did was take it down and clean and lube. Had 1 nose dive at about 190 rounds 1 at 400 and 2 the other day all with the 7 round mags. Waiting for a reply from Kahr. Worst case I send it in. Second worst I get a new recoil spring guide. Not sure #2 will solve problem. When the slide is all the way back this is where the spring guide hits the front of the slide!!
