The Police Department call me Saturday and told me they have recovered a pistol stolen in August, 2010. It's a S&W SW9VE. My question to you is, do you think it's worth a four mile round trip to recover this gun?

I'd go for it. You could always use that piece of junk as a paper weight. :)

You can take it to the next gun turn in and get $50 in food stamps...:boink:

Remember guys, this was the gun that was almost an exact copy of the Glock 19, but with a SS slide. Glock's initial reaction was, who in their right mind would copy a Glock, but they recovered from their shock, sued S&W, and won. Actually, I had S&W correct the hard trigger pull, and through five or six hundred rounds, it was perfect. It's the 'just like a Glock' thing that bothers me - that and the fact it has those terribly illegal 16 round mags.

if insurance settle with u, wold u stillbe the owner, I know many inscompanieis want no part of recovery of guns, so more than likely theywould say keep it. If it is what usay it is, then u outta get it back anyways, its urs and heh its a Glock. I never seen a copy of a G19 utter than anutter G19. I gotta say my G19 is the best semi I ahve ever shot for accuracty. It has had alot of accurateiron work on it, grip stipplying and finger groves gone, ported, dawson fiber optic adjustable sights. tuned tohigh heaven. One of the nicest safequeens I have everowed.

I had a SIG P220 stolen in the same robbery. My HO's only paid about 1/2 of the value of all the stolen property, so when the SIG was recovered, they said keep it. I would have paid to get the SIG back, but this one.........
The courts ruled that the SW9VE was a copy of the 19, so who am I to argue. I've never owned a Glock, nor have I ever wanted one, so I can't say.

They probably recovered all of them, divided up the good stuff amongst themselves and are giving you this one back cause nobody wanted it.

I could tell you a story bawana about whatu jut poseted about when my business was robbed at night and all my guns taken and supposably recoverredby the cops later on and how I only got 80-% back and oddly some model 60's were not in that group. I couldn't prove it but I was told by an insider at the police dept that some guns recovered never made it back to me. Just sayin. and here I thought allu cops were straight..

I had 2 guns stolen back in the 70's. Everything stolen was recovered except the guns. I heard from an office employee at that city dept that she had seen my guns in the chiefs office.
I pursued it for several years but couldn't get anywhere. I still carry the serial numbers in my wallet and check if I see that model at a range or shop.
Many just don't like to return guns. claim information is lost and destroy rather than return. Just not right.

If that's true they screwed up big time because I got the P220 back and it was worth about $1100 or $1200 at the time. It's a classic nickle plated pistol from 1992 and had just been refurbished by SIG - they haven't made them since 1995 and this one is like new.

its a glock style gun, simply the best in the world. He should never trade it.

Go pick it up and then sell it.
Just make sure you include the paperwork. I wouldn't trust the government to take the serial number off of the stolen list when it is returned.

I know you're being facetious, but that's why it's worth practically nothing to me.

I'd go pick it up. The gun might be a POS that you wouldn't want to carry, but it does have some value. Your options on what to do with it after that is endless. If you detail strip it and clean it, and give it a good lubing, it might make a decent garage/car/truck /boat beater gun. It's always nice to have a beater pistol that you could care less if it gets banged up a bit.

Do you usually go to that side of town, O'Dell, or would it be an extra trip? If extra, I don't know what I would do, it is four miles.

but u did buy it, so why not get the dan gu back and then see the condition ofit and decide then. Might make a good trade at a gun show for ammo or sumpin. I would n'tlet the cops sit there with it, for eventualy it will go bye bye.
U at one time ust have had a ***** one to buy it i the first place. by the way, WTF is facetious????

Guess you could pick it up and sell it to a person that does not have money for a "fancey" pistol for what it cost you to pick it up. That would ,oh , 10 bucks.
Guess thats about practicaly nothing ,right!!

Funny comparison, what if they had a Presidential Inauguration and nobody showed up? Bajillions of idiots freezing their tooshes off to watch a second term loser get crowned.
The karma deal sounds good, wonder if anyone would show up?

Only four miles? Is that one way or round trip? Makes a difference you know.
Got an email from my local reloading store that they got in 50k large and small primers. But they are still rationing at max 200. I'm making that 1.8 mile round trip in a few minutes.

Maybe carpool with some friends MW especially ones that don't reload and have each of them pick up 200 too. Make the trip count ya know?

Except that you help reinforce the value of your local police returning firearms when recovered.
That is useful, even if you don't "want" this particular gun.
Next time it might be someone's Wilson CQB.
Just my opinion of course . . . ;)

Mikey - You're too far away and the gas alone would eat up any hope of keeping the cost of reloading down.

Final resolution! I drove the 2 miles to the police station and picked up the pistol. On the way home I stopped at the Waffle House for my afternoon coffee. I ran into a guy who has bought a couple of guns from me in the past and told him about the recovered gun. He offered $125 for it so I sold it to him. Now I don't even have to clean or lube it. He's also interested in my Kahr CW40 which got replaced in my carry rotation by the CW45. I'm showing it to him tomorrow. I'm getting rid of two pistols that I no longer need and getting a few bucks too. Everything is good.

I had an sw9ve and it was actually a good pistol. Stupid long and hard pull, but I never had a fte or ftf in about 1k rds through it. I sold it for $350 last year. I think they are a good starter pistol...

I had one of the early ones so I sent it back to S&W under warranty for a trigger job. It came back a lot better - still fairly long but not nearly as hard. I only had 500 or 600 rounds through it when it was stolen, but I never had a problem either.
