I am looking at buying a new IWB holster for my 3" 1911. Any suggestions?

I was thinking maybe a Don Hume or Galco.

Kydex is way faster than leather and does not need a break in period. For the 4 oclock carry I use the FIST Universal, or the BladeTech Nano
for appendix, the Alabama Hooker

There are cheaper and more costly but not with as many options and leather feels way better against your skin than a skinny piece of kydex . Very flexable leather as used with a glove leather backing and very adjustable for height and cant with the ablitity of changing just the kydex body for a different handgun.

Both of the ones you listed, Hume and Galco are excellent. Also, consider De Santis and Bianchi for the IWB leather holsters as I have had excellent service from all the companies listed. And as good as Kydex is in many applications, I personally prefer a leather IWB holster for comfort.

I have two holsters from Tommy Theis. They are a lot like the Crossbreeds but cheaper. Lifetime warranty too...

I have been doing quite a bit of research on this myself and just ordered a Remora no-clip IWB holster. Have heard nothing but great things about these holsters! Check 'em out here: http://remoraholsters.com/No_Clip_Holsters.html

+1 on Remora, but I don't think I'd carry a 1911 in one. Not cocked and locked anyway. Just asking for trouble. No offense meant, I know plenty of people that ccw a 1911, but I'm not man enough to try it, least of all on something like the Remora that wouldn't cover the hammer.

Don't understand...are they pocket holsters? Where/how do they attach to anything?

I love my remora as well. My snubby remora actually fits my cw9 really well.

Buy one, so cheap and probably the most comfortable holster on the market. Fits any position iwb.

Maybe of a sticky material when heated up it will not move at all.

I personally think the remora is too sticky for most pockets. It'll stay put there almost too well, hard to get mine in my pocket because of the grippy-ness. I wear it IWB and it stays in place like you wouldn't believe. Very adjustable b/c no clip to be placed in a 'fixed' position on your belt. You can go deep, shallow, cant as far as you like. Left side, right side, appendix, etc. Belt loops are no issue. Put it anywhere.

I now carry both my TP9 and my Sig P250C in a Remora and have no issues w/ comfort, weight, etc. I find it so comfortable and load bearing that I don't even carry my P9 much anymore.

I must be the oddball. I tried a Crossbreed-style holster and it had no advantage for me over my $8 Ace Case, so I went back to the Ace.

Nope, me too. So we are both odd or we are on to something :)

I just could never get to a point where I could tolerate the time/effort to get the pancake thing on. I tried for awhile, just never became comfortable w/ one. Didn't like the clips showing, didn't like having two clips to get on, just all in all didn't not find it quick-n-easy. With the Remora, or even stuff with a single clip like my Comp-Tac Infidel (which I've sold in favor of the Remora), I can always just grab-n-go. No effort.

Well if you only want one clip, I like Sam Hanks holsters off e-bay....about $42.00 simple on simple off and very thin.

Similar to the Remora, I have a Sticky Holster for my Glock 19 that I use quite often. It is "tackier" than the Remora and stays put, no clips. I even tried it with elastic waste lounge pants. Didn't budge going up and down my stairs. It is soft, and does not chafe. I carry it at about 4'oclock.

OK...for the slow among us...you slip the Remora IWB with no clip or securing mechanism?

How does it stay in place?

drewtaylor21

the material on the outside "tacks" to the body/clothes. looks like you only need mild pressure from your belt or pants (quite a few comments about people successfully wearing them sans belt) and it stays in place just fine.

this might help you visualize it:

Does it feel much different carrying a 3" 1911 IWB than a Kahr PM40? Is a 3" 1911 at all uncomfortable carrying IWB?

Depends on make of 1911, most are a lot heavier than a Kahr. My Para PDA is pretty light, but still heavier. In a carry gun weight matters!

The 1911 3" is a heavy gun, I have a Remora for my Kimber Ultra Tactical II, but don't like the feeling, however, with the CM9 the Remora works very nice. Check Milt Sparks(long wait) holsters, they are very good, IWB or OWB.

Yea the 1911 I am considering for concealed carry is a Kimber Ultra CDP II and I would carry IWB, but I am also considering OWB if IWB would be to uncomfortable.

what the other folks posted about how it works. Tacky surface stays in place with slight pressure. I don't wear it against my skin often...and it stays put fine between tshirt and pants/belt. some folks say it can be uncomfortable on the skin but I don't mind it when I have to carry that way.

far as heavy guns like a 1911, dunno about something THAT heavy. But my 25-26oz, prob 30-32 loaded SIG P250 compact is not a problem. biggest ish with a 1911 is gonna be the hammer and carrying cocked and locked. Dunno that I'd want a Remora for that...

Carrying any size of 1911 you definitely need a holster that covers the thumb safety and has a strap between the hammer and frame. Carrying a 1911 in a IWB is one of the easier guns, as it is flat and not as thick as many [most?] double stack guns.

Do you want leather, kydex or hybrid?

For Leather I'd go with UBG (http://ubgholsters.com) Luv the Canute!

Kydex, there are ton's of choices, though the closest thing to a true kydex holster I own is a Garrett "Silent Thunder" (leather lined kydex) and it's a great holster.

Other hybrids like the crossbreed (would never buy an actual x-breed personally) are also available from any number of different makers at various costs etc etc.

It really depends on what material you personally want and what you want to spend on it. There is no one holster that will work "best" for everyone.

I'm a big fan of Foxx holsters. Good quality at very good prices. I have a hybrid holster from Foxx for both my Kahr CW9 and Glock 19

I like the Garrett holsters. The Silent Thunder is perfect for my PM9 as it is small, comfortable and conceals very well. When I was shopping the deciding factor for me was the soft leather lining to protect the gun yet a solid Kydex shell for protection. Also the Garrett's are good folks with which to do business.

Do you ever tuck with the ST, if so how well does it work for that? I've been eye'ing one for a while but haven't ordered it yet. I wear a polo tucked 5 days a week, so I need something tuckable for my CM9, when I'm not pocket carrying it.

I'm thinking about ordering Beltman belt with the velcro sewn on the inside of it and then getting the ST with a few different clip options, including the V clip which is completely concealed.

The second pic in my slide show is tucked. Yes I do carry tucked a bit in the summer and it's very good. The wrinkles you see in that pic are likely more from raising my arm like that than would be normal, plus I usually pull the fabric on each side of the holster to take out wrinkles.

I can't tell it except for the clip. I blouse my tucked shirts a great deal because I hate wearing them tight against me, so I think it would work well for me. But I don't wear a phone holder, so the clip would give it away a little more, which is why I'm interested in the v clip for it.

+1 for Tommy Theis Holsters, lifetime warranty, equal or better quality compared with crossbreeds and if you don't like the Holster he'll take em back.Did I mention customer service? Outstanding !!!!!!

I've had people look for the clip and miss it because it blends so well. The hook part that secures it is hidden under the belt so it is just that strap part that shows. I don't know about a V Clip but I do know you want something that puts the weight on the belt, not the pants.

Yes, it'll work fine. I carry a 3" sometimes in my 5" holster. If the bottom isn't rolled over you can work it the other way too and just let the barrel of the longer gun hang out.

Does it matter if the holster has a thumb break? Will I still be able to snap it into place with the smaller gun?
