good and bad ammo list for CM9?

I got to shoot my shiny new CM9 yesterday, and I love it! I was only able to get 137 Round down range before the range closed and kicked me out. I am going to be buying some more ammo soon, and wondered if there is a list that recommends certain ammo?

It will probably shoot just about anything you feed it but I'd stick with US made SAAMI ammo. I've haven't had mine long but have shot the following in it without issue:


American Eagle 115gr FMJ
American Eagle 124gr FMJ
UMC 115gr FMJ
Magtech 115gr FMJ
UMC 115gr HP
Speer Gold Dot 124gr GDHP

Avoid flat nose bullets. Many have experienced feeding problems with them.

Walmart had a bunch of PPU 9mm today and I picked up 200 rounds. Everything is so scarce around here lately I'll give it it a shot.

That should be okay. Most ammo will probably work, but I would stay away from steel-cased stuff and flat-nosed bullets. I haven't run across anything that won't work in my 9mm's... PM9, K9, and P9.

I understand that the RWS Sportline works, but some ranges ban its use because of the copper-coated mild steel-jacketed bullets that are fire hazards. I wouldn't want to start a forest fire with those things. I've seen them strike the range floor and it was like giant sparklers... sparks from the floor to the ceiling!

If all you can find is the Tula, I'm sure that it will function... but I would rather not shoot that or Wolf. Wolf .45 stunk... gaggy smoke!

I've run quite a bit of Aguila ammo thru mine. Dirty, but relatively inexpensive.

Thanks guys! I tried the tula junk for the second 50 rounds mostly thinking if it will feed that, it should do most! It ate it like candy! Never skipped a beat... and it wasn't even "broke" in yet. Also did some silver bear cheap stuff, and some federal.

mine eats the blazer fmj and federal 9bp rounds without complaint.

My CM9 shoots everything. I stay away from steel cased but did shoot one box just to see if it would run.

For SD I have used gold dots, but now carry critical Duty in 135 gr. +P.

Man, now I want to go to the range just thinking about shooting it.

some one mentioned flat tips bullet dont feed well. my experience has been the opposite. all i have shot through my gun is 147g flat nose winchester ranger fmjs with ni feeding problems.

oh and to the OP my advice would be to stick to 147gr ammo with this handgun. the reduced recoil/muzzle flip is very helpful with getting follow up shot on target. and (i dont want to turn this into a 115vs124vs147 debate) i personally like the 147gr 9mm the best because of its increased penetration, especially in the winter

oh ya you can def tell the dif between 115 and 147. ive loaded both in a mag in another gun and gave it to a buddy and he was surprised how much you can tell. much louder and definite increase in recoil with 115 compared to 147.

*edit-oh and for your other question my cm9 feeds 147 just fine. not a single problem

factory fmj 115 , 124, 147 is all good from my experience with 9mm kahr .

Have not tried sd ammo except for hornady critical defense and that was excellent.

Federal HST 124 gn jhp (P9HST1) runs great through my CM9 when using the original 6 rd mag.
When I tried a 7 rd. mag....fuggetabowdit.

My CM9 has been flawless with Tula, Wolf, CorBon +P 124gr HP, Hornady 124gr Critical Defense, and Hornady 135gr Critical Duty. Oh, and about 150 rds of 122gr truncated cone lead bullet reloads. Some of those reloads were only loaded to 850fps or so, but they worked and shot great!

My CM9 is in love with the Hornady Critical Defense, not cheap to practice, but my choice for CC.Even with 7 rds mag, never fails.
