Hello to All from Wisconsin,
I already own a S&W 642 and a Ruger LCR-38 and was looking for a semi-auto option as a CCW and found it with the Kahr CM9. I love the looks, quality, features (or lack of features I should say... no external safeties!), and got a good deal for $425.
I'm relatively new to owning and shooting handguns, am an NRA member, and recently completed my CCW class and in the process of waiting for my permit to arrive. I hope I can find some useful help and info here on both my CM9 and other related firearms and accessories.

Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by Kahr Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Impatient? Watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lube Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?
There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Welcome from west central Florida! My wife wants an S&W 638 or 642. We're just having trouble finding either one.It took me about six months of searching before I found a 642 without the internal lock. When I finally did I jumped on it immediately and will never let it go! Even the versions with the lock were hard to come by in my area.
It's a classic and popular little revolver for many good reasons. :)

Aka wyntroutThanks for all this great info! I'll have to say yours is the most useful introductory response on a forum I've ever got. I will make sure to study some of this info before using my Kahr.

Hello, Cristofori, and welcome from Missouri to a great forum. Good people and info here!
Since you are new to this handgun, self defense arena, consider taking some good self defense classes. I also recommend you check out the many free YouTube videos made by Massad Ayoob, a world-class instructor in handgun use and self defense, who has recorded training sessions in Judicious Use of Force, Shoot to Live, Home Invasion, Preparation for Home Defense, and What to Do After a Shooting. Just Google his name and these topics and the YouTubes should show up. Very good instructional information from an expert, and free.
Here is a very good technical review of self defense ammo, for when you are ready to consider this:
http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm
This is an informative review by a doctor of different gunshot wounds effects; we all need to be aware of this real-life information:

Take care, and best wishes to you and yours!
