New to KAHR, purchased a P9 in black diamond(?) finish with night sites for CCW.

Had to qualify for concealed carry permit on Sunday. Only had time to take it to an indoor range and put around 50 rounds through it before this. Qualifying was outdoors and the WARMEST it got was -15 Fahrenheit. Was out there for about 6 hours. (counting warm up breaks)

It performed flawlessly. Put about 100 rounds through it at the range right before the test, then flew through the 36 round qualification. Never failed to feed. Exceeded my expecations as KAHR says you need a 200 round break in period.

It shot like a dream. Handled the cold better than I did!

I am very impressed and happy with my decision.

I am a little disappointed with how the finish held up though. There are a few marks down to shiny metal from where it rubbed on my holster. I thought this was supposed to be a super tough finish.

Still all in all a big KAHR fan now!

Welcome to the forum, Wolf. The finish is not indestructible, but I would be surprised at any kind of holster wear that quickly. I have several with that finish and I've seen tiny silver bits on edges of my used pistols... my latest is a P9 DLC with Novak NS... about 8 years old... and I've got some brass marks from ejecting brass on a few, but no "wear" marks from holster wear.

Here's some info:

Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by Kahr Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can download the pdf file here:

Impatient? Watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lube Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Yikes, that's dedication! I was fortunate enough to do my qualification at an indoor range. :33:

kahrs special steel finish is only a mat finish stainless steel. Nothing specialy hard compaired to other SS. Maybe polish it. They will take a mirror finish easily.

Glade yours ran so well. Seems many shoots have kahrs that run great right out of the box also. Seems the "warning " are more for the newer small gun shooters to give them time to adjust to them !! ??

15* .Tough bunch of shooters to take that course. Way to go.
