View Full Version : Has anybody seen my mag spring?

Was cleaning one of my 6-round mags the other night and while reassembling it-- you know what happened 'cause it's happened to you before-- the bottom plate popped off before it got seated and the mag spring went sailing. It didn't hit me but I'm glad I had my eye protection on. Surprisingly, the locking plate and the bottom plate stayed on the bench but the spring launched itself and now has absolutely vanished. Gone. Nowhere to be found.
I've searched high and low for the darn thing, from rafter to floor, at three different times and am left scratching my head. Weird. You'd think something that size would be easy to spot. Apparently not, but they sure can fly!
Did any of you happen to see it pass by? If not, guess I'm off to the Kahr store for a $12 spring.....

I think it ended up in Miami.

Try turning the lights down and use a good flashlight to search using a grid pattern one more time. It works well because it narrows your field of vision.

If you're anything like me you'll probably find it in the last place you look. I always find things in the last place that I look. I don't know why I don't look there first. It's one of life's mysteries. :)

I keep a Harbor Freight magnet handy just to find those little treasures that always drop and bounce under and into places unknown to me.

a drawer full of sh!t thatI have lost, searched hard to find and never did, and then replaced it and then later on found it. I now call them spare parts. Sure sounds nicer to say it that way.:amflag:

Just buy a new one and you will be sure to find the one you lost. Works every time for me.

To be honest the same thing has happened to me. The recoil spring plug of my much cherished 1911 once took flight and I didn't find it until a month after I had replaced it. Nobody is perfect and I not a nobody, so I'm not perfect. I like to think that I am, but I'm not. I once thought I was wrong, but I was incorrect. There's method to my madness. :)

I spent the better part of an evening looking for one of mine. Yes, yes, they do fly nicely. Everybody should spent a significant amount of time doing that at least once. Builds character and humility. :-)

Well, consider my character built! I figure it will show up years from now when I won't even recognize what it is or where it came from.

depressed muggsy, would it help any if I said u were perfect. I would lie for you to make u feel better. or other wise maybe u are just a loser to. In ur case the word loser could have two distinct conotations.
I cannot believe I put that big word in that sentence either. I am so fokking proud of myself, I think I will go out in the barn and tell Hernadez, he can stop detailng my two bikes and go back across the border for the weekend.:amflag: I just feel good about myself today..
then if the sun comes out I moight travel to D.Cl to shoot a few rounds of skeet with the pres.:amflag:

Buy a 3-pack from Wolff. Or buy the magazine KIT from Kahr... includes the follower and spring for $3 more than the two parts separately!

I would keep looking for the spring... it didn't get out of the house!:D
I've had a few of those "escapes" myself and you will be surprised that it was in the "least likeliest" place when you find it!
