This stuff would be awesome except for the blast, flash, and deafening concussion. :) At least now we know what the king of the hill looks like in the clear gel.

I don't think that I would enjoy being on the receiving end of one of those. Nasty. Great job on the report and video.

Reaffirms my faith in this as my carry round in the Ruger SP-101 3". Massive & early expansion is like, WOW! Great test, as usual! :D

Pssssttttt....hey buddy. You didn't hear this from me, but if you're toting a 3", you might want to check into the Underwood version of this load. I ran some through my PORTED 2.25" SP101 and was still getting 1200+ fps.
I seriously considered doing the benchmark with the Underwood, but thought it best to use a ammunition variety that is more generally available to everyone.

I have been keeping an eye on the Underwood JHP's, but they are out of stock on just about all calbers. I don't carry the SP-101 very often at all, 5 rounds then re-load just isn't very appealing. I've gone to packing my G30 in .45acp with 11 rounds & a 13 round mag as backup. Thx for the tip, appreciated very much! :D

Thank you for all you do and for all the tests and resources you have made available to all of us at MGA, Ljutic. I really appreciate all you have done and continue to do. Every time uncle Bawanna gets on my case and has the holier than thou 45 attitude about my PM9 and HST rounds, I head on back and watch the clear ballistics gel videos and am satisfied with my selection. :israel:

CM9 is always in front right pocket whenever I'm dressed, home or away. Went out last night & added the Glock30. Just felt right! :D

Great review. I have always thought about making my carry round the .357 magnum but worry about being able to make follow up shots quickly and accurately. Do you feel that you would be able to shoot the full power loads for self defense out of your SP101 well despite the severe recoil? Thanks

very nice work, Ljutic.
I would love to see a test of the Hornady 140 gr XTP. I've become pretty fond of them for my daily carry rounds in the 3" SP101. The .357 SP101 gets 90+% of my carry time, and I do love the .357 round.

The SP-101 will definitely handle this load, but you hit the nail on the head, follow up shots will not be as quick and/or accurate, especially under any kind of duress. I also want capacity first & foremost! Probably why I carry the G26 or G30 or 1911....with my CM9 as a BUG, of course! :D

It's going to be interesting to see how the 9's, 40's, and 45's compare in similar testing later this year. The barrier is pretty substantial, but Mr. 357 Magnum didn't care.

I think after some research that I need to change to load in my two .357's. right now I'm running the Winchester 110gr semi-jacketed hollow points. I think I need to up the anti. I have some 158gr Blasser Brass jacketed hollow points and some 180gr jacketed hollow points. Your thoughts all?

Not sure what research you are considering, but I wouldn't go heavy. All will become clear in about a week when my 158 results go up.

From what I saw the load I have in both my .357's was a little lacking. The round broke up after about 9 inches, and the velocity was lower at 1200 ish fps from a 4" bbl, and about 990 ish from a two inch bbl. If I could find a more well constructed load in 110 around here I might consider it for urban work. I have no intention of loading those 180gr hollow points, especially in the 4" bbl. The urban and suburban work thing that I mentioned is the reason I went light. I think I went a bit too light though. Hope that helps some.
