I recently found both a used PM9 and MK9. The PM9, has the older style slide, with the blackened finish, and night sights. It appears to have been fired very little, and has no wear on the slide or frame. Price is $600. I also found, an MK9, with the matte finish, that has only appears to have been test fired. Price $550. Which one should I choose?

My first answer is both.
If that doesn't work you need to evaluate your needs. If you want to pocket carry or do anything but wear it on your belt in a proper holster like a man, then the PM is the obvious choice.
That being said the MK and all steel Kahrs are proverbial things of beauty. Nice to shoot, grip options, very nice size but the additional weight is a turn off for some. It won't matter a bit on your belt but might be too much for pocket carry. The MK might get left behind where as theres little reason to leave the PM behind.
I'd be perplexed myself in your shoes, some say I'm in a permanent state of perplexed. Both are nice, both will serve you well. You just need to figure out your needs.

u should be perplexed great One, u probalby don't own either. Let a pro tell this guy what to have instead of some newbie with jUst alot of posts.
BUY THE PMJ9 BUY THE PMJ9
At the prices given, the MK is a better value.
Sure, the PM has night sights, but I don't place much value on these, when their age is unknown.

Let me clarify for the new guy so he isn't more confused than he was before which should not be confused with perplexed which is a whole nuther malady.
PMJ9 has come to mean PM Jocko 9 or the Blunt nose version you mention as opposed to the slightly longer tapered nose version.
He's quite partial to the blunt nose version in black.
And he's right I don't own either but I have both on hand which isn't the same so I'm going into my closet now and try to seal myself up in a plastic clothes bag till I turn blue or expire, whichever comes first.

like it but he has to decide if he intends to pocket carry it and if so that $50 cheaper for a brick in ur pocket compared to a sponge soon goes away.

Agreed.
But when you run out of ammo, and have to throw the gun to defend yourself, wouldn't you rather have the brick? :)

They are both amazing guns. I personally am partial to the all steel Kahrs. I own a mk9, K9 and i am hoping to add a k40 soon.
I agree that you have to know how you plan on using it. I can carry the mk9 in my pocket, but I have to make sure I am wearing a good belt or else....;) To me, it is a small price to pay for such a beautiful, solid, amazing shooting little gun!

I wouldn't say either is more or less reliable. They both should run without issue.
I saw you mention a cracked frame on an MK in another thread. I've only heard of that once or twice, and I've heard of a crack in a polymer frame once or twice as well. They are somewhere her in the forum.
I wouldn't be concerned. Whichever appeals to you the most and whichever one you feel will serve your needs best is the one to go for.
You won't wear either one out, both will last a long long time.

PM = pocket carry.
MK = belt carry.
Nuff said.

If you're asking my advice, I already have a perfect pmj9, so it would be the mk9. The buy both is correct. They are like potato chips, you won't be satisfied with just one.
Before I spent $600 for a used PM9, I'd buy a CM9 new. The PM9's are still going for not much more than that - new.
FWIW, I bought a very nice used stainless PM9 for about $450, in box, with papers and complete. That was pre-madness of course... but just sayin, you have to temper the price of a used PM with a new or used CM. There is no functional difference in the two... its all cosmetic.

I gave up potato chips on Jan 1st.
I may not live forever, but it's starting to feel that way.

PM9. More versatile. Pocket carry, iwb or owb. I own a PM9......just my .02 cents.

Saw 3 used MK9s for sale in the gun case at Shoot Straight in Tampa. I had some time to kill so I fondled them. One had been smithed and the action/trigger was soooo smooth. The pistol was in great shape. I was starting to fall in love with it, however I did some hasty research on the MK9 online, I just didn't have a warm and fuzzy with regard to reliability and there also seemed to be some issues with the frame that came up.
Although I don't own a MK9, all I can with certainty is they are beautiful to look at and handle. However, I can say without reservation that the PM9/CM9 is a solid 100 percent reliable pistol.

what CJBsaid is IMO the way to go. I own two PMj9 and love um both, thatbeing said had the c9 been there first I would have bought them. I could care less about mim slide stop vs,forged, dovetaild front sight vs pinned. I want a gun that goes bang every time and fits inmy front pocket and both would do thatwithease. Just sayin

I like PM9 because it's lighter. But i like the weight of the MK9 for shooting. With a good belt holster, the MK9 works fine. For pocket carry, the PM9 is ideal. MK9 is too heavy for pocket carry, at least for me.

What do you like better Blondes, Brunettes or Redheads? There's no unified answer. Pick which feels best to you and what you intend to do with it.
Me? I like a steel gun...

I also own the PM9 W/night sites. It is a very, and I do mean very nice CC pistol. IMO it is the perfect size and weight for CC. The night sites work very well for these tired old eyes. They even show up in low light conditions which for me is a major plus. I like the fact that the pistol is all black with very little flash. I'm sure the MK9 is also a great pistol. How could it not be it's a Kahr. For me the weight of the MK and the lack of night sites would be an issue, for an all day everyday carry pistol, but for others it may not be and issue at all. I guess you just have to go with your gut feeling and what fits your needs the best.
Good Luck

Decided to go to the wifes computer and pull up some pics of the PM9 that I bought used. I looked at this this way. Someone spent there time and money to break the gun in for me and I paid less for it. As you can see that even after two plus years of EDC it is still in outstanding condition.

X2 get a cm9 brand new for under $400 and if you have the money, get the MK

I have both a PM9 and a MK40. The MK40 is essentially the same size and dimensions as the MK9. Both are great guns. The MK is too heavy for pocket carry, at least for me. Both of my guns have night sights. You can always add night sights on the MK9. My MK40 is my EDC. I carry it AIWB. I carry the PM9 in my pocket on occasions that belt carry is not practical. Both are great guns.
Either of the guns you described should be great for concealled carry. Take your pick. As someone else already said, the MK9 is a better bargain based on new prices. Also buying a new CM9 is an option.
I might add that if I ever have to use my guns in a defensive situation, There is about a 75 to 80% chance that it will be dark or low light. I do recommend night sights. For what its worth, I also have Crimson Trace laser sights on all of my carry guns.
Whatever you buy, if it is a Kahr I don't think you will be dissappointed.

Agree. I have tried several times, but much as I like my MK9 for other reasons, it's like having a rock in my pocket.
Having been thinking of getting a PM9 for a long time now as a lighter-weight alternative, but other distractions keep getting in the way. Maybe someday.
