View Full Version : CM9 Trigger kinda revolver like?

I saw a video on Youtube of a guy complaining about the Kahr trigger, demonstrating it's breaking point and reset to a Glock (the be-all and end-all of handguns ). After putting 200 rds though my CM9 for the first time the trigger reminded me somewhat of my snubbie revolvers, with it's long pull and reset. It didn't physically feel the same as my revolver trigger, but behaved similar to it. I could understand someone used to shooting SA semi-autos or Glocks not liking it, but it was designed that way to be safe for CCW. I'd rather have the long pull and no external safeties then vice-versa in a CCW.
Still, I'm not used to the CM9's trigger yet, and there were several times I pulled the trigger and it would not fire for me not pulling it back far enough. There was this certain point were I had to pull it in the right way or else it would just hang there. I certainly wouldn't want that to happen in a life or death encounter! But practice makes perfect, and after I get to know it's unique quirks it will be like second nature (I hope). I won't be carrying this until I'm fully used to how it behaves, which will be at least several more range sessions yet.
With the way the trigger is, I don't feel confident I could fire the CM9 very fast, at least not any faster then my snubby revolvers, which takes away some of the advantage of having a Glock type semi-auto. But for me the advantage lies with the safe trigger, having a slimmer, easier to carry profile with certain clothing, faster reloading, and two more rounds of the proven 9mm. Which is why I wanted to add this (hopefully) fine CCW semi-auto to my planned carry rotation.

Before my CM9, I was used to a SA/DA pistol. Long on the first pull, then short afterward. When I first shot my CM9, I felt that the trigger pull on my CM9 was way long.
Now that I shoot the CM9 a lot more often, and rarely shoot the SA/DA, I find that when I DO shoot the SA/DA, I am "surprised" by how short the pull is, and sometimes I shoot before I mean to (but it's always pointed downrange and on target when that happens).
So this is kind of a long-winded way of saying "That's how the Kahrs work, and you'll get used to it."

I think your comparison is a fair one. One of my other carry guns is a S&W442 which is a DA only concealed hammer revolver. They do have a feel.

If you're saying the trigger is physically hanging before firing, then something is wrong with your pistol. It should be very smooth all the way through with no stacking.

I think he is referring to lenght of trigger pull and the long reset

My wife's new CM9 has a honey of a trigger. Long, but silky smooth, no creep, and no stacking. It's not objectionably heavy. No complaints here!

the kahr looooooog trigger is ur only safety on their gun, other than one'sbraintelling u to keep ur finner out of that trigger guard. There is no way I would want a glock trigger on my PMJ( when I pocket carry it 24/7. I love my glock trigger on my G19 but it doesn't go in my pocket either.
practice does not make perfect but perfect practice does. the more u shoot a kahr the more those little things in the beginning that one nit picked on will soon go away and u will never even think about it.

I make the trigger-pull comparison to a nicely done double action revolver trigger when I am trying to describe my CM9. People who wish to compare/contrast a CM9 trigger to a more conventional semi-auto handgun have missed the point entirely.

it is very similar to the S & W 357 -686 revolver in double action mode. Long, smooth, accurate, trigger. Easier than the revolver but still the same long pull. Good for a firearm with no manual thumb safety or grip safety if you carry it all day long and especially if you are in a situation, your adrenaline will finish the job..
IMHO.

The Kahr trigger is similar to the best DA action job ever put on a S&W.

I've been a Smith & Wesson revolver owner since 1970. There have also been a few Colts and Rugers in the mix as well. A person familiar and proficient with the double-action pull of a good revolver will have few problems adapting to the trigger of a Kahr.
In fact, since the Kahr isn't performing the tasks of advancing and locking the cylinder in place, there is much less taking place to potentially throw off the sight picture.

Yes, the trigger pull and reset is more revolver like and much longer than on a Glock. My first Kahr was a CW45 with an even longer pull/reset than the CM9 so after shooting that for a while the pull/reset on my PM9 seems "short".
The longer trigger pull/reset is a compromise I'm willing to make given the other things I think are advantages with respect to the PM9 versus my G19 and G27 (both great pistols).
