Went to the range today to give the CW45 a workout. Noticed the spent casings were coming out pretty mangled. Not all, just some. Also had a couple of FTE that jammed the slide open. I've attached a picture. Normal or not?

A little dinged is normal. Those pictured aren't. What kind of ammo were you using?

Kahrs says thatis normal. U would be hard pressedto ever reload that brass IMO.
Maybe after200 rounds the brass damage willlessenup alot more to. Iamgonna blame that on very stout new recoil springs that have not yet reached their designed break in set. It is very normal to see the dented cases on one side of the brass, .
Those look like sh!t IMO save those in case u have to sendit back and also to compare looks at now and at 200 rounds. Might see a big difference..

Wow. Mine is brand new also and does not do that at all-- I have brass from yesterday's session in the tumbler right now and not a one of them looks like that.

what I woulddo is send that photo to kahr. attn Jay and runit buy them, U might stress they are un reloadable also .
If could be extractor related, keeping the brass i the slide to long ad it just forcing ad beating the casing out of the gun. I don't think it is right, evne thhough the gun works OK.

Yes, worry about that, something is wrong. Normal fired brass has only a small flat area on 1 side only. Do as suggested, send a picture to Kahr.
I'm jealous. I want MY PM45's to do that to brass. That is ******!
Seriously... some of my brass is unscathed, some is mangled almost, but not quite, as bad as yours.
Jocko is right... the more you shoot, the better it gets... depending on the spring, ammo, shooter, etc...

Wow I can't even think of how that would happen. Agreed, ask Kahr.

So some of those made it out of the gun without it jamming in some way?

My P380 will do that sometimes. I pick up all the shells and some look similar to that even though the gun worked fine. Weird. I'm sure the slide slammed shut on the shell but was able to throw it out and load a new round anyway. Yours look a little bit more crunched than mine though.

Jocko, sent an email to Jay at Kahr. He's asking me to send the gun in. Must not be normal.

If Jocko ever recommended sending a gun back to Kahr I'd faint dead away.
(Scenario) Shooter: Every time I fire my PM9 I have to pick the slide up off the floor and re-install it. Should I send it back to Kahr?
Jocko, that perfectly normal. Shoot the fokker like you stole it. Like me, it gets better with age. :)

many of my posts have indeed stated "send it back" I have even told um who to contact etc, yadda yadda. Don't faint, it will be hard on ur head.
Especially the little bastards P380, I never cut that gun any slack...Just sayin. even with this thread I advised he send the photos of his crapy brass to Kahr and run it buy them as I thought it was terrible. they do say in their janual that some brass might show dents but not all over like this fella had. I would call those brass casing totally unloadable. What he pictured is not normal by any means. I know ur joking with me to but I think you know I don't drink all their kool aid either, although I do like kool aid...:Amflag2:

I sent the firearm back. They took the slide off, lubed the gun. Test fired and said everything is OK. I took it to the range the next weekend and it's not doing it any more, but it did have 2 FTE's which is bothersome for a gun I'd like to put into the carry rotation. It's not ready, I'd say.

Deano, good luck in your decision making process. Not sure I would want to be carrying it either, if you can't count on it 100% of the time. Good luck, not a problem any of us want to deal with!

My P45 did that for the first 500-600 rounds. FTF and FTE up the Wahzoo. Very frustrating and disheartening. Caught a lot of flack from some of the members here because I was pissed and couldn't get any answers.
After filing, sanding, cleaning lubing, lubing and lubing the piss outta that sucker it began to strip and feed about 75%-80% of the time.
Still unacceptable.
Then I FINALLY found the problem(no help from Kahr CS)

Yeah, I was just kidding, Jocko. You probably knows more about Kahr pistols than anyone except for Gary and Justin Moon. I just like busting your chops.

I've had some mangled cases too. I started a thread in the reloading section on this subject after finding two reloaded cases that were damaged. In that thread I have a photo of a factory TulAmmo BrassMax case that was also damaged in the same way. The answer from the more experienced forum members was that my reloads were a little weak.
Edit to add the link to the thread in Reloading: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22790
Back to the OP, I have used Blazer Brass in .380, not .45ACP, and I thought the power level was slightly less than the other .380 ammo I've used (PPU and TulAmmo BrassMax) in the same gun. This is based on felt recoil, not chronographed velocities. If the Blazer Brass .45ACP is lower velocity than other factory ammo, then perhaps you are having the same issue with low power loads eating the brass.

I have used Blazer, WWB, never Tula, in all different calibers, and found that they are all weaker loads than say, Fiocchi, Federal, etc.
