OK so I have two brand new CW45s (yes I'm rubbing it in) and have not fired either yet, but I have a question:

I noticed on one of them some slight scuffing on the part of the barrel you can see through the slide when it is forward.

Is this normal?

Just wondering because I see it on one of them and not the other.

Thanks!

I really do not what to say here because the thread may get delete. It would be best to share some pictures. I am hoping that will help better to get better answers. I am behaving now, before I get ban!

Any your such a good boy too! Now keep behaving yourself and you'll be out of the corner in no time. Is your hand healing yet?

VAguy, as Vinikahr stated pics would be good but I'm guessing it's completely normal. I believe your talking about the hood and they always get marked up cycling the slide. Maybe the one hasnt be handled as much so it doesn't show as much. I just recently polished my barrel and eliminated those marks and they wont be so pronounced in the future I don't think. Nothing to worry about.

both of my kahr's have some scuff marks, nothing major but they are there. not sure if it's normal or not, but it hasn't been a problem at all and hasn't gotten worse as round count goes up.

Thanks guys. My other semi-autos don't have marks like this, but I believe they may be of a different design (blowback vs locking breach). I have a lot to learn.

Look for two range reports soon, one from the female perspective (dang I hope she doesn't out shoot me!)

Don't be alarmed if she does outshoot you. Women historically do better first time out than guys. NO pressure. If they shoot lousey they get the I'm just a girl get out of jail card. Guys have no excuse. I'm a guy, warrior, dragon slayer, I'm required to shoot good or I'm not a man. Seen it many times. Don't let it get ya down. Sneak out for extra ranges session, maybe dry fire practice in the middle of the night, seek additional training under cover of a business trip until your better than her. Always cheat, always win.
Advance apologies to Ms Zena and Ms MX5fan we're all aware that your on a much higher plain than the average female.

a coating that is on the barrel, that will wear off where ever metal to metal touches, so I am saying that is normal barrel wear. Your barrel is nickel plated but they come with some dull as coating on them that will wear in places. What I have done and many others is to if you have a dremel, get some flitz or polishing compount and just polish shine the entire barrel and you will never seen these rub marks again. Or just leave it alone and shoot it like you stole it.

You can also just get one of those dremel cotton polshing cones and put it in a drill and get the same results with some compound. It really does make the barrel look nicer, and much much smoother to feel also..

Normal wear. You may get some on the side too. Nothing to worry about. This shows a wear area so be sure to keep some lube on the underneath of the slide where the barrel hood rubs.

You can buff it out with some flitz but it will just go back to the way it was after you shoot it BTW why 2 CW45's? not that there is anything wrong with 2!

His and hers?? Or two-gun shooting... maybe one of those dual-shoulder-holster-carrying guys? Hey, maybe one is a BUG?? House gun and car gun the same?? There are lots of perfectly good reasons... maybe just a spare.:p

I see that wear on all Kahrs I have used and believe it can't be a good thing. That sign of wear indicates a need for grease, so I use a light coating of Shooter's Choice All Weather High Tech Grease, spread with a finger tip and latex glove, possibly a Q-Tip. It's the red stuff in a syringe applicator.

One for me, one for the little woman.

She recently showed interest in getting a concealed permit so we both took a basic pistol safety and concealed class.....currently awaiting our permits.

For years we have had a variety of self defense handguns around our house, neither of us were proficient with them. I decided that we should change that strategy to us both having a personal handgun that we can be confident in the operation and function. Each personal handgun will be used for defense both inside and outside the home.

I think an added side benefit is that should one of us need to use the other persons handgun, we will be familiar with it and can be confident.

All other handguns (that I don't sell) will be kept in a safe where nobody else can get to them (short of dynamite, etc).

How's does my strategy sound? Any input welcome.

(ha ha, I just realized the question of "why 2 CW45s" is from a person whose handle is 5Kahrs)

I think your strategy is solid. Sounds like a good plan. Training together and improving skils, nobody can fault that. As for 5Kahrs, last I heard he was up to 7. An you know what, theres nothing wrong with that either. He with the most toys wins. There's a good thread. How many toys you got? Wonder if it would fly. Course the federales might be watching although I'm pretty certain they already have a little pin flag over my house on the GPS map.
