View Full Version : Considering CW9...but warranty?

Hello all,
Considering many items for a new carry piece. Really wanted a Ruger SR9c but decided it's just too big. Considered M&P Shield but they are ghosts. I really like the looks of the Bersa BP9cc but not too sure about the very short trigger pull with no external safety for carry.
I really like what I see from the CW9 as well. The overall size and thickness are very appealing as well as the fact that it has a 3 finger grip. One thing I was kind of surprised to just recently find out was how short the Kahr warranty is when several others offer a lifetime warranty.
What experiences have others had when considering a Kahr with regards to the warranty?

WTF, u mean 5 years is not enough??? Good for someof the several others for lifetime but I think 5 years is very acceptable. My Mercedes only has 4years...Ur worryng aobut sumpin that if u think it is gonna be a loser then don't buy it in the first place.
I will tellyou this much if ur out of warranty kahr will still work with you if it is a product fault. U might have to pay to send it back etc, but kahr ain't gonna walk away from you either.
Do you recall the grendall 380 made some years back. It carried a lifetime warranty. They went bankrupt, so, so much for a lifetime warranty. A good company will stand behind their product. abuse one with a lifetime warranty and see how far that warranty goes. the utter guns u mentioned are great guns to, the cw9 runs circles around them IMO..

Someone else like bawana or jocko will be along shortly to give you a better answer

Hey ParrotHead welcome.
I kinda went through the same thing a few years ago when I was looking for a cc gun, I really like the CW9 but I didn't care for their warranty.
I went with the CW9 and have never looked back.
It fit what I wanted in a carry gun and I didn't think it was smart to buy a gun I liked less because of a better warranty.
If I have a problem after the warranty I'll deal with it.

Uh, you know, Ruger has no written warranty.

Uh, you know, Ruger has no written warranty.
Yes, I'm aware of that. They do, however, take care of issues well beyond a 5 year period. I'm not saying I am turned off to a Kahr, I'm just looking for input and experiences as it relates to the length of the warranty and how issues have been handled POST warranty period.

so if one comes forth and gives u a bad report, then that is enough to make u go else where??huh. rem bmer this is the internet and any person can post what ever he wants with absolutley no verification of truth or false.
My opinion only but if this warranty thing is such a hang up with you, move on to a gun with a lifetime service and be happy withy it. I think ur apporaching this buy from the wrong standpoint, but again that isur callto make no mine..

Where in the world did I say anyone "came forth" and gave me a bad report?
As I indicated previously, the warranty IS NOT A HANGUP. I clearly said in my post it has not turned me off to the product, I am just looking for input.
For Christ sakes, if I knew I was going to be raped for asking a simple question I never would have come in here in the first place.

sure looks like u were asking for comments to me. U came here, u asked,u evidently don''t like the feed back some have given. No one is trying to rape u, which IMO is a very poor word to use. Just sayin

Looking for comments, correct. The TONE of the, ahem, comments are just more abrasive than I have ever seen on other forums....and I am on A LOT of them.

sorry about that, I want u to be happyt if u buy a kahr,my posts are my posts and not that ofthe forum. Others might feel different. I thought in my firt reply toyou that I was fair and balanced, evidently not.
U can hear a ton of commets on the nternet about aything and I am sure if u look long kenough u can find the comment thatwould please u to. The members here have basicaly said not to give it anyconsderation. I stated that also. Kahr is a good company,. because they might not do what some might do is not relevant to kahr. the fat that even Ruger gives no warranty does not also insinuate that it is lifetime either. they are a good company and when u make a good product ur warranty issues are usually nil. Smart business on rugers part IMO. I think S & W is the same way.. They can determine when they get any gun back if they want to fix it no charge. I seriously doubt if you have a ruger 5+ years and have an issue that they will pay to pick up ur gun. maybe they will to, again it is amute point. I don't intend to baby a person who might be offended by what I say. I said what I think is the truth as far as I know. I know kahr, U don't, as u don't own a kahr, . I have been on this forum since day one and members have returned kahrs way out of warranty and still got propper service.
U need to put the warranty thing behind u and look over the kahr ur wanting to buy and see the quality and the size and wieght and then weigh it against what ur other guns are offering and go for it, ...

Hello PH, I am new as well and have not dealt with a warranty issue but I have been in your shoes. I bought a shield and (gasp) didn't like it. Bought a keltec pf-9 and (surprised?) didn't like it. Have shot an LC9 with a custom trigger job and once again didn't like it. Then, looking for an M&P9c, I happened upon a CW9 in a shop and the rest is history... All that to say: have you held and/or fired any of the pistols in your category? To me that matters more than a lifetime warranty. 5 years is a long time for something to go wrong if it's going to go wrong, assuming you shoot often.
I have found that most quality gun makers have shorter warranties than "budget" gun makers... FWIW

I got my CW9 couple months ago, have about 300 flawless rnds thru it. I too am on several forums, and have read about the CW9 on many more when I did my search before buying. If you have searched, as it appears you have/are, then you have found that the Kahr brand is as popular and realiable as any other brand. Do a Google search for Kahr CW9 reviews, you should find your answer there, then try to get one in your hands and put a few rounds thru it, chances are you'll hate it(I doubt it), or will love it(my money is on this)....I have a G19, had it before the CW, really liked it(still do), but as I stated before, when I shot the CW9, I knew I had a new girlfriend...my http://www.usamustangs.com/forum/images/smilies/2cents.gif , Kel

Welcome to the forum.
Get the CW9, 98% chance you won't need the warranty on a CW9. Also after the first 200 rounds of the CW9 you'll know that you made the right choice and that the warranty wasn't even needed anyway.
It is one fine gun. In my opinion it's the best gun for the cost Kahr makes.
The inability to make eye contact can cause folks to take text out of context. I'm sure all comments were not meant to be offensive.
I researched quite a few carry weapons and I opted for the Kahr; the warranty not being one of my major concerns after feeling comfortable that Kahr makes a very good product.

Will three fingers fit on the grip for the most part? Nobody has one in stock anywhere around here. I'm considering buying one sight unseen.

I have bigger than average hands and I get three fingers on the grip.

Medium hand here and I have CW and CM/PM. I can a comfortable full grip the CW, but gorilla hands would want an extended 8 rounder or add a Pearce to it to get a FULL grip.

one of the reasons for the cw was the extra length grip which will allow most all shooters 4 finners on the grip, not so wiuth the cm or pm series.

What a joke....you can have this gun if you pay another $25 for Bud's VIP program.
Pffft...
I guess it's not that bad but it just chaffs my butt.

I paid $419 + tax at my LGS and I thought that was pretty fair. You are essentially paying $415 plus whatever ffl transfer fees.

I paid $385 from Grabagun, plus a $15 transfer fee at my local FFL.

I just got my CW9 from Buds two weeks ago (after waiting 4 weeks for delivery). I can't get enough of this gun. I've carried a Glock 19 for some time and decided it was just too thick IWB. The CW9 is a much better fit and I'm a better shot with that smooth, long trigger pull from Kahr. I couldn't be more pleased.
I hope you jump in and make the purchase!
