The Department of Homeland Security has purchased 1.625 Billion bullets in the last ten months. Billion with a B! Think someone's getting ready for some civil unrest?
http://www.infowars.com/dhs-purchases-21-6-million-more-rounds-of-ammunition/
And here we were wondering where our supplies went. Notice also how much of if is SD ammo. Can't blame it all on their desire for practice ammo anymore.

No, they are definitely reaching a level that I find somewhat disturbing. Before, I was on the bandwagon that if you did the math, it was just enough to train with for a few years. In the face of shortages repeatedly over the last few years, can't say as I (earlier) blamed them for getting the orders in. It's not like they are taking instant delivery of that many, these orders are against FUTURE production.
But, yes, this is starting to get out of hand if you ask me.
It's my understanding that they practice w/ what they carry. I mean, it's YOUR tax dollar, why not.
Before though, the math made it a relatively LOW number of rounds per agent, back when it was a few hundred million rounds. But now, you round DOWN on the ordered rounds to say 1.5 billion, and round UP on the number of DHS agents across all agencies (I think I saw 80,000 somewhere?) to maybe 100,000. Then you are talking 15000 rounds of ammo PER AGENT.
Seems a bit excessive. Maybe somebody w/ more accurate numbers can shed some sanity on it, but I can't.
On the flip side, when I consider the ammo going into civilian hands right now. Not too concerned. Even a fraction of the gun owners stockpiling in this country, let's say 500,000 gun owners...makes the gov't number less scary. The people still have the upper hand if you ask me. Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

when (if) you consider all the agencies in the DHS security and the number of rounds each agency fires in training you will see (if you look) that this number is not outstanding.

I have never seen the total number of agents within the DHS but when you consider that DHS comprises all the following:
Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
United States Coast Guard (USCG)
Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS)
United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
Office of Air and Marine (OAM)
Office of Border Patrol (OBP)
Office of Field Operations (OFO)
Federal Protective Service (FPS)
United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO)
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)
Office of Intelligence
Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR)
United States Secret Service (USSS)
Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS)
Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General (DHSOIG)
There's a ton of people in these groups and then consider all the training operations going on with all of them. THe number of rounds would probably be about right for all of these for perhaps a 3-5 yr supply. Just the FLETC operations alone use a huge amount of ammo for their training ops.
It does make the price we have to pay jump considerably when they order these quantities and creates short supply as well.
SInce DHS is ordering as one group not individual agencies, it just makes the number look huge and hopefully the gov't gets a better deal with our money for a quantity purchase.
Just sayin'

"To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years."

My nephew, a Central Texas police officer, has quite a stash of .40 cal. A lot of the other cops in his shop don't use up half their monthly department-issued range ammo, so they give it to him.
He has a really nice BBQ smoker and treats them all to a brisket sandwich & sausage now & then.
He's got enough to equip his department for a year.

All of that 1.6 billion rounds of ammo that DHS ordered was 9mm and .40 4&W. Handgun/sidearm rounds.
If they were really seriously preparing for civil unrest, they would be buying .223 and ARs. Yes, I heard the news that DHS just ordered 7,000 select-fire ARs, but I don't think anybody believes that would be a serious effort towards civilian "pacification". I think there are that many ARs in my neighborhood here in Texas. :)

Being one who follows conservative political ideology, I wonder if it's not simply a form of gun control. You can't do anything bad with a gun if you don't have any ammo.

If you look around, you can find a lot of articles about the DHS preparing for Civil unrest, or Civil War even. I think they have enough ammo now to shoot every person in the USA 4-5 times, with pistol ammo. Who knows how much .223 they have, they probably just grab that from the Army.

Most of the Texans on the other gun boards I frequent are AR "heavy".
Wouldn't be surprised if there are a half million or more of 'em in the state.

Re: Infowars, Alex Jones and company put out some pretty good stuff. Like everything you find on the internet, you should do your own research, and not take his word as gospel. I'll admit he is way into conspiracy theories, but some of them are no longer theories.
I don't know what you all think of Jesse Ventura, but I like his Conspiracy Theory show, and he gets some of his info from Alex. And does his own research before buying into anything. Jesse's show on the FEMA camps was pretty impressive, and Alex took him to a place that had thousands of those FEMA coffins just stacked up and sitting there. They estimated something like a couple hundred thousand coffins or so. Soon after they showed the coffins, trucks came and started loading them up and taking them somewhere else.
It was pretty strange when Jesse got someone to speak at him at one of the FEMA camps, they really dodged questions and gave him the run around, and could not give him any straight answers. He also tried to talk to some Congressmen and got the runaround there too. Here is the episode:

Maybe this is just obummer's way of bringing in new revenue so he can spend more... He has the feds buy up massive quantities of ammunition - then he waits until something like the school shooting to "gin up fear" in the hearts of all law abiding 2A lovers so they empty the shelves of LGS and other ammo suppliers.
The next move is to open up new Federal Ammunition Retailers who will sell all of the previously procured ammunition at 4 or 5 times the price the gov'ment (actually us taxpayers) paid for it. Sounds like it would bring in a lot more revenue than some of the other hair brained schemes he's come up with.

I think the idiot writing the article is weak on terminology and when he says bullets he really mean cartridges or complete ammo.
But who really knows. I doubt they have anyone with enough energy and fortitude to make ammo.

"Infowars, Alex Jones and company put out some pretty good stuff"
I guess I'd need your definition of "good stuff" but it can't be honest or truthful.
Any time anyone says/writes bullets when they mean cartridges or ammunition or rounds it all goes directly into the dnc, dumbshit pile.
