View Full Version : Ported Barrel Upgrade?

Hello all. I'm a fairly new Kahr owner (only 70rds through my first CW9), with a couple of Q's about a possible barrel upgrade down the line after I've put another 225-250rds through:

1. Does anyone have any pics of their Kahr CW9 (or 40) with the 4.0" ported barrel?

2. Better still, any side-by-side comparison pics?

3. Does the polygonal barrel prove more accurate than the conventional (aside from mere increase in length...does the rifling make that big of a difference)?

4. Any concerns/kudos on the upgrade?

Appreciate any advice y'all can provide! I'm so impressed with this little EDC. So light weight and easy breakdown.

The poly barrel would prove more accurate,if target shooting in a competition.if you're carrying for protection odds are you'll use it in under 10 feet.in that situation will it matter?imo no.I wouldnt port it because if you have to use it in the dark after your 1st shot youre blind.if you want help with muzzle climb I suggest a after market guide rod to help weigh it down.theres a guy(sorry forgot the name)on here who makes them.or you can look up bedair on the net.they make them as well.

I have the P9 and bought a Kahr ported barrel for it. I like it and think that it reduces recoil a little and doesn't increase the flash that I can see. I really got it thinking that my wife might appreciate the decrease in recoil for defense loads. I like +P for defense and usually use the Speer 124-gr +P God Dot Short Barrel for carry in my PM9. I haven't really carried the P9... I prefer my Mag-na-ported P40. the flashes from it are much brighter than the 9mm Kahr ported barrel.

Here is the thread on my 9mm barrels:

Here are range test pictures with still captures from video showing the flashes:

The porting doesn't do any worse for your night vision than a non-ported pistol at night. I do have several ported and the ported barrel by Kahr is the one that makes the least difference in flashes. The Mag-na-ported one is MUCH MORE noticeable, but still negligible over the regular flash at night. I noticed it much more from the side when someone else was shooting... because I was pretty close to the flash with my camera.

A revolver probably makes more flash... especially the powerful ones!

My buddy thought THIS was normal for a .357 magnum! The first picture... maybe... the second... HolyS###!

Not so normal to ME... standing there with a camera and feeling sh!t hit my face!

I have the video of my remarks... and him saying "What?" Like THAT was normal!!

I have one on my P40. I think it is a good upgrade. Shoots just as accurate, helps with follow up shots and I have no big negatives to report.

I am one lucky guy, I have put maybe 50 rounds at night out at my local club ragne out of my PM9 Magna ported barrel.

I still can see. IMO lotta of B.S in some statements. If u think no flash comes out of anygun at night, u have not shot at night then. Just sayin.
Try a wheel gun at night!!!

I never said NO flash at night.Just thought if it threw a fireball up instead of out it would be worse. And of course I meant temporarily night blind.not permanently blinded

The Mag-na-porting throws two blasts upwards in a "V" and is brighter, but I didn't really notice it that much because of the short duration. The Kahr ported barrel throws it forward at an angle and I only notice it in the photos. Part of that flash is below the front of the gun, too.

My camera records video at 30 fps and the flash is usually within one frame. Once in a while the flash is between frames and I don't get it.
