View Full Version : Kahr CW40 - The TRUTH added to this story
Note from JustinN: I couldn't let this go without giving Kahr's side of the story as this just felt plain wrong....Itch's description is NOT how Kahr Works:
Word from Kahr was:
There is no way the slide stop or another part of the gun caused the ding in his slide. They would not warranty it because quite frankly, this was not a mfg defect. Someone caused that problem. There is just no way shooting the gun or the slide stop backing out would have caused that damage.
CS could not tell him what caused the damage. They did state however, that it was not shipped that way nor, would it have been caused by normal wear and tear.
Kahr Customer Service did offer to clean it up for him at no charge so it at least would not look bad. He didn't want any part of that.
So there you go. There is what REALLY happened with Itch's gun, and what happened on Kahr's end. This is just another example of what Kahr will do for their customers and how great they can be to deal with, IF you are actually wanting to talk with them and see what they will do for you.
Itch lost out, someone else won. End of Story.

After waiting two weeks for kahr to repair my pistol they called me and said they will not fix it under warranty. So not only am i out of $450 the price i gave for the gun that i only had for two weeks they are not standing behind there warranty. The slide stop pin damaged the top slide how in the hell can that not fall under warranty. Shot the gun one time. I will not be buying from kahr in the near future and will advise all my friends to also do the same.
I was also told yes we can fix it if you send us $145 for another top slide. I told the guy to go screw his self. I will be reporting this company !

What is the deal, did they say you caused the damage somehow? If so how? What type of damage was caused? Did you buy the gun new?

sumpin ain't right here..

What is their reason for the damage? Was the gun reassembled incorrectly in their opinion or what? They should give you a reason they say it isn't a warranty item/what damaged it, etc....

the pictures he posted of the slide IMO looks to me like it would have been very hard to blame owner damage. I for the life of me cannot even figure out how it got that way and if he shot it only once then sumpin is not right. Not blaming kahr, not blaming ITCH, but sumpin smells here. supposably it is a new gun also.

I agree Jocko. I'm almost wondering if whomever ITCH bought it from replaced something in the gun, like the slide stop lever, with the wrong piece. It may look ok, but causes damage to the gun....I'm just not sure. The pictures make it hard to see and really know, because of the focus, but ITCH has been talking about it for a while now, and tried to show the damage. I also find it hard to believe Kahr would just say you're out of luck if they hadn't found something there to indicate something changed after it left the factory which ended up causing the damage.
On the upside, it didn't take the month they initially said......
I advised them that i would be checking on legal action against there company and they will be investigated for manufacturing fire arms that are not safe. I will not be laying down on this. They will be reported.
The gun is New had it for two weeks
The gun was fired one time at the range
The gun was then sent back to kahr for repair
kahr says they will not repair it because it does not fall under warranty
Kahr says i can buy a new slide for $145 and I told them I would not when I have only had the New gun for two weeks.
Kahr says the slide stop pin did not damage the top slide but could not give any other reason except they would not repair under warranty. I then hung up on the gunsmith and told him to talk to a manager about it.

When you say it was fired once, do you mean one range session, or one bullet.
Also, I was under the impression this was more of a cosmetic issue rather than a safety issue....
Also, you should always keep in mind people make mistakes and if you are polite and attempt to work with them they can then realize the mistake and try to make it right.....polite does not include immediately threatening lawsuit, hanging up on them, etc etc. You had a similar reaction when they told you it would be a month, that you'd never buy their product again, etc etc.....
Also, you have to keep in mind, the gun could have been damaged between the time Kahr shipped it out and the time you received it. In that case they aren't responsible for it, but neither are you really. I would still like to see some clear pictures of the gun showing the damage that has been done to it...
There again, even if it isn't under warranty, had you been polite and tried to talk to them, they might have worked with you since this was a new gun....but I'm pretty sure with your responses you've closed those doors. There is a possibility the guy you bought it from damaged it messing around with it, or the distributor before him, etc etc....
The gun had only 200 rounds fired from it by me at the range. I was very polite the gunsmith was not he was rude that is why I asked him to take it up with a manager. I did not mention any legal action till they refuse to repair. We are all entitled to how we feel or see things. The point is I now have a gun that I gave $450 bucks for that is damaged and they are refusing to repair it under warranty. I had the gun for two weeks I did not damage it. I asked why they could not fix under warranty and the company could not give a reason to why not. I could be wrong but this is not professional for any kind of business to operate.

u made a statement the gun was fired one time at the range. not 200 rounds at the range. There is a difference ITCH, not that is should have caused that damage.did the gun work perfect those 200 rounds. To say they willnot fix it and no reason as to why and how, just for me is not the way Kahr works..
There are old post. When i bought the gun I cleaned it took it to the range and fired 200 rounds threw it. When i got home that day i took it apart to clean it and noticed the damage to it. It appeared the slide stop pin had cut into the top slide. They sent label and then I sent the gun off to them.

I still wonder if the problem was the pin installed with the actuator on top of the spring's free end. This would keep it up and possibly cause wear like that. This would be operator's improper re-assembly, but it would seem that they would tell you that's the reason. NO REASON doesn't sound like a good ?answer?!
This is not to throw fuel on the situation or call Itch incompetent, but possibilities like this happen all of the time because people don't read the manual or watch the take down videos... too impatient. The manuals do cause your eyes to glaze and roll over back into your head because of 10 pages of safety warnings and six different languages and the ALL-IN-ONE Manuals that cover every freaking model!
AGAIN... I'm not directing this at Itch or anyone else... just stating my view from experience here. I have had my moments, too!

way wyn would lock open every shot.:Amflag2:
I asked several times why it would not be covered under warranty and they would not give me a reason to why not. Only thing they said is we can sale you a new slide which i refuse to buy. So they want me to buy something when they don't even know what is wrong with the gun or what caused the damage in the first place. My point !

If the SL pin was backed out a bit it might not have enough contact to hold the slide back. I've seen the danged pins back out. It's usually a loose screw holding the spring in place. That danged SL pin/screw/assembly cause more problems! I've learned to look there first. My P40 screw backs out and I generally have to tighten it at the range. I just don't want to overdo it and strip the screws. I have tried a bit tighter, though... tired of it coming loose!
I really don't understand WHY they won't tell you their conclusions... or WHAT lead them to refuse repair under warranty on a new pistol.
Wynn:)
I don't want to beat anyone down but I have been collecting fire arms for over thirteen years and I have also been a long time member of NRA. But I have got to say this I have never had to go threw something like this before in my life time over a fire arm.

that is a possable but I owuldthink in 200 roundsit would indeed produce lockup of sumpin and there should be damagetothe slide lock pin hole being banged like that to. Just guessin, we all are.
I will just get rid of it when I get it back. Not dealing with kahr anymore. It is to much of a pain in my ass to deal with them anymore. I only own one kahr fire arm and out of 100 other fire arms it is the only one I have had issues with.
First $300 gets it. But there is no warranty !

Did the gun come from a dealer? It may be worth going back to them on, since they sold you a problem gun that has a problem that isn't covered by warranty....
Oh we cant repair it under warranty but we don't know why. Well that is enough to piss anyone off !
Ill just try to sale it and the stuff i have for it. Ill lose some money on it but will be happy to lose the grief from it.

I'd be pissed off too. Kahr has always been very helpful to me in warranty situations. Sorry you are having a tough time with them.

Ok, one of you high Kahr rollers contact Kahr and get the full story. "Please"
Nothing against the OP but...something is missing here.
This doesn't sound like Kahr CS at all. They "normally" handle matters concerning their product to the satisfaction of the owner.

There are a few things amiss, a few questions asked deliberately a few times that are not getting answered....
What are the questions that have not been answered !

Just to clarify, the gun was purchased brand new in the box by you, no one else had owned it previously and you bought it from a Kahr Dealer? You are 100% sure there was no damage before you fired the gun at the range, it looked perfectly and after exactly 200 rounds you brought it home and it was chewed up? When firing the gun there were no premature lock backs, no fail to feeds, no fail to extract, no nothing?
I am the original owner correct and yes it was brand new and was bought from a dealer in my home town. I am positive. No there was no damage of any kind prior to firing the pistol at the range. No jams that i remember. And just to clarify this I made sure the slide stop pin was under the spring after the gun was cleaned and the same before it was fired at the range.
First $300 gets it. But there is no warranty !
I think your going to have a difficult time getting rid of a pistol that the manufacturer won't repair under warranty for whatever reason, especially after all the "noise" here. ;)
I could be wrong though.
Good luck. :)

I would buy it in a heartbeat if I had an extra $300 right now. The gun functioned perfectly and the problem looks probably only cosmetic, by his pictures. Plus, I would be willing to bet that kahr would fix the problem for the new owner if they show the service rep a little respect and courtesy.
This doesn't add up to me. I am taking kahr's side on this. I think they would have fixed the gun under warranty even with this guys sparkling personality. Something is missing in this story.
I treat everyone the way they treat me. If someone shows me no respect and wants to be rude to me then they get the same in return. It is cool the gun has been sold so now it is someone else's head ache not mine.
Sold the gun and one mag for $375. Not my problem anymore. Thank You God !
