View Full Version : Oh well, it happens
Went out back to put another 100 Fed.115gn fmj, and 50 hp's through my CM9. So I can declare it ready for EDC. On the 14th round, slide failed to lock open. First failure I've ever had with this little pistol. Upon inspection, the front leg of the mag follower has broken off ! Oh well, since that's the only mag I have, ( dealer didn't have one when I bought the gun ), I decided to see if it would still shoot. YES, doesn't lock open on the last round, but still works, even with 5 different kinds of HP's. Gun's great.. the mag follower not so good. Guess Mon. I'll call Kahr and see if they'll send me a new follower and order a spare mag. That's, always been one of my "pet peeves", that no one should sell a pistol with only one mag. Raise the price if you have to, but EVERY auto-pistol should come with a spare mag. It's only been in the last 10 years , that has become an acceptable practice. The mag. has always been the weak link in auto-pistols, guess it still is. Does anyone know if Kahr has gotten a bad batch of followers, or is it a design flaw ? Thanks.

email kahr, attn. Jay state ur case, We don't see much of this with the cm9. I don't think it is bad followers as much as we are finding out it could be the feed ramp busting the followers when the slide is retracting and the barrel is tilting and as u know it will probably only happen if on the last round as that is when the follower is in harms way of the barrel feed ramp. I have had two on my pM9 in over 32K rounds. Followers normally don't break on their own, they are under no stress or pressures but if the feed ramp slams into them, you they are gonna break. Get a new one from kahr and if it happens within the next 200 rounds, IMO the gun might need to go back to kahr to get the feed ramp moded by the techs. U just might not have any reoccuring issues either, so put the worry behind u and just shoot it like u stole it. Nice gun, really is.
The reason u are buying the cm9 at such a good price is due to one magazine. If u buy the pM series u get the spare mag, although it is a 7 round mag that extends.
I guess kahr feels if u need a second magazine u will just order one and be done with it, again not a big deal, and u should have a spare mag, but also the mag of ur choice to. .
I emailed them, told them what happened, offered to sent pics of the follower. Now it's just wait and see, kind of strange, would have expected if there was a problem with the feed ramp, it would have showed up before I got to this round count. At 364 I didn't expect it, but who ever does ? Now with 500 total, still no FTF's or FTE's, got to admit I'm impressed, most pistols this small are very picky about ammo.

Dude, I agree a busted follower kind of suucks, but 500 rounds with no feed issues is outstanding. I would take that trade off any day. Like you said, stuff happens.
I have the CM9 and love it. It's my EDC.
I get what you're saying about it coming with only one mag, but you also used to be able to get hot wings at an eating joint and it was actually the WHOLE wing!
Now they split the bloody thing in half and count it as two ... such are the times we live in.
Congrats on the progress of your gun and best of luck getting it fixed in a timely manner.

Kahr will replace the defective magazine or follower, but you'll probably want to purchase one or two additional spare mags. A shooter can't have too many.
