Failure to return to battery PM9

My PM9 seems to have developed an issue. The gun is well used.... several thousand rounds through it. 2 range trips ago it had probably 5 instances of not fully returning to battery. It was out of battery by probably half an inch and a slight nudge on the rear of the slide got it into battery and fired fine. I thought maybe the recoil spring was getting worn out, so I bought a new one. The new one felt much stronger.

Yesterday I went back to the range. In 200 rounds of JHP ammo I had one instance of the same malfunction. Every range trip is fired using both a 6 rd and a 7 rd mag. I don't know about the first time, but yesterday the malfunction happened while using a 7 round mag.

Thoughts? Is it likely mag related or something else?

sounds like the new recoil assembly help the issue. I can't se ehow the magazine can hinder that but againif the round is coming out hard for some reason it could be the mag.

I would say this. continue on with just the 6 round mag and see if the issue stays good as ur last shoot showed.If it doe sthen u coldhave a bad magazine spring. check to see if by chance it is in OK properly. U mightalso checko the kahr tech sectionunder propper preppingof ur kahr and see where it talksabout how to check for a grabbing magazinefollower on the magrlease button.

It's all about perfect timingin these semi auto. Well used meansw nadda, u can't shoot out a kahr andit outta be smoother thana glass by now to.Is ur PM slide theolder version with the bluntnose or the newer onewith the front portion of the slide beveled/angled??? either way now u can go to wolffs gunspsring and order from them the 20.5# recoil outer spring which is alitte morestouter than the faqctory 18#spring.

that indeed willhelp FTRB much better to. all u need is the outter spring to and it will fit any PM kahr u own.

by theway, wolffs makes all of kahrs springs.

why not try repolishing the feed ramp and the chamber with some 600+ grit paper. If u have a dremel and a cotton polishig cone and some flitz it might take 3 minutes to do it.Ur not gonnahurt it.

Polish under the feed lips of the magazines to. again smooth is good, probalby Ok but againur not gonna hurt anything..

Mine is the older version with the squarer slide front.

When I ordered the recoil spring assembly there was a new type or old type. According to my serial number the old type was the one I needed. Should I have gone with the newer type?

What Jocko said here is really good. This has fixed feed and extract issues on multiple guns of mine. Make sure it's shiny clean, clean, clean and smooth.

UR GOT THE RIGHT ASSEMBLY, BUT u can now go to wolffs gunsprings and just order the outter recoil spring and that is all that is needed. Always make sure the open end of that recoil spring goes towards the front of the slide. I am assuming u got the comlete recoil rod and ooutter spring from kahr.
IMO the blunt nose version is what I call the PMJ (for jocko) 9 version is the best of all the models made by kahr. It certainly is the smallest and lightest of all models. just a super defense gun. take care of it..:Amflag2:



The newer type recoil assembly will not work in your blunt nose version..

I just finished disassembling cleaning and polishing. I compared my new recoil spring to the old one, and now I think Kahr sent the wrong one. The new assembly I received has a larger foot on it than the factory original one did. Is that right?

I put the old one back in and ordered the wolf extra power spring.

I double checked my order confirmation email. I ordered the old style but what I received has a bigger foot than my factory original. My serial number is VB51xx.

no, what u had in originally was the flat peace that measured 3/8" and the new change over about 5 years ago is now 1/2". so ur good to go and that could have been part of ur problem to. They made that change back then for some reason. Mine has the 3/8" flat peace and it never gave one issue but when they made the change, so did I. It should be 13 coils outter spring .

If that still doesn't solve the issue, then why not go to wolffs gunsprings and just order the 20.5#outter recoil sring and give it a try. More than likely ur gonna be good to go now though, so worry abut that later..
