Still trying to understand whats going on inside 8 round mags. Messing around with a full mag I noticed after putting the rounds in the second round was sitting alittle low,so I pushed the top round down with my finger a few times and now the second round was closer to top round.Thinking by pushing down on them let the cases settle in place. Now with that being said the follower had the mod and I found running a smaller spring improved reliability by alot.In these pictures you can see the difference.Still don't under stand why they use such a long spring, when you look at a 1911 8round spring next to kahr 8 round spring there is a huge difference

a lot of folks either forget, or don't know in the first place that 9mm brass is NOT straight walled. It has a slight taper that is apparant when you lay 8-10 rounds side by side....you will see an arc forming. So, when the rounds are stacked in a magazine, there will be apparant "gaps" between the bullet/case mouth interface point. This is the cause of the "looseness".
The only way I see this could be remedied is to have a spring loaded, hinged follower that could adjust it's pitch when the round count in the magazine changes.

I agree 9mm is always going be the hardest to stack I thing it's about .010 taper per round and they just want to curve by nature. As you can see in the jig I built
