Finally after buying this pistol a month ago I was able to get to the range today.
Initial impressions.
- I started with RWS 124 gr. fmj at 3 yards. Kept all of them within 7 inches. Moved target back to 7 yards, same load. All within 9 inches. Not bad. Then I changed ammo to some Cabelas Herters aluminum case nylon coated fmj 115 gr. Well those were all over the place at both distances.
- Used both 6 rd and 7 rd mags with no failures. I got marginally better results with the M&P 9c that I brought along for a control but I'm used to shooting it.
- No ftf's or fte's. No jams. Pretty much flawless operation. Trigger was nice and smooth. I'm wondering what all the fuss about break in is all about. I had no probs. So accuracy wise I can say I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm sure with more range time I'll improve with this gun.
- I do have a new favorite range ammo. RWS 124gr. fmj. (http://dansammo.us/handgun-ammo/9mm/rws-match-grade-9mm-124gr-10010) I picked up a case from Dansammo a few weeks ago. Was quick enough to get some ordered when they sent out a back in stock alert. I'll definitely be ordering more of this stuff. Worth the money. No more Herters nylon for me. Its cheap but it just doesn't perform nearly as well as the RWS.
Now for the negatives.
- The magazine. Ah yes the magazine. That mag plate gap is definitely a finger pincher! I picture the engineers at Kahr getting a big laugh out of it. O-rings or pinky extensions are on my list. If I were them I would install O-rings. Found myself preferring the 7rd. mag over the 6rd. Having that extra length for my fat fingers sure helps.
- Not much fun to shoot a lot of rounds through. It is snappy. I put about 100 rds. or so through it and the meat between my thumb and forefinger definitely feels it. Can tell I'll be sore tomorrow. Shooting the M&P 9c after the Kahr felt completely different. The overall comfort of the Kahr's grip is kinda rough. Not a fan of the checkered approach. Would like to find some kind of hand grip solution or sleeve with backstrap cushioning which could alleviate some of that punishment. Open to suggestions here.
Overall I'm pleased. It is what it is. A handy, well made pocket gun. Definitely not an all day shooter. I like how it fits in my front jeans pocket with the Sticky holster perfectly. Exactly what I was looking for.
