View Full Version : My CW-9 Covert

After getting some ideas from this forum I couldn't help myself. And I couldn't help but to share. I got the cw-9 in the first place because I have a slimmer frame and couldn't conceal any other gun I tried on. I still had some issues with the grip poking out and imprinting through my clothes. With the covert and my tuck holster I can even get away with wearing my "slim fit" clothing and there is no imprinting. Woot!

This is my first time posting an image, so please let me know if it didn't work. The following shows the gun as it is now, plus the gun next to the old mag, plus the gun with the old mag inserted so you can see how much was cut off.

Feel free to comment, I feel pretty good about it. :amflag:

Did you cut the grip down?

I cut the grip down so it would fit the 6 round magazine instead of the 7.

I used a hacksaw to make the initial cut. About 5 minutes. The polymer is really easy to cut through. Then a rough grit sandpaper for about 5 more minutes to even it out and get the angle corrected. Then a super fine grit sandpaper for another five minutes to smooth it all out. It didn't look all that smooth until I wiped it down with some oil. Then it looked very good. I was surprised that it came out as clean looking as it did.

It looks good and as long as long as the magazine seats securely, that's great. I've switched from the PM9 to my P40 for EDC. I replaced the "flush-fitting" polymer base with a metal base, then the blackened metal base kit from Kahr. For it, I did have to use an O-ring as the setup pinched! I can get by with just two fingers on the grip where that's all there is!

Pictured here my P9 with that treatment, along with the PM9:

I like the looks of the covert. It looks pretty simple to do with a polymer gun. I wish they still made the k40 covert.

It is good work. i just seem to ask myself, would I do that for a gain of 1/2" barrel length when I could buy a cm9 and have a shorter gun even and lighter. I can't see that 1/2" extra being ay advantage for a sight radus thing.

Not being a negative nanny here either the work is great, we see alot of it on this forum. Just sayin

Well, Jocko, he discovered that it printed after he purchased and carried it. Pretty industrious of him to do the conversion and have the extra 1/2" barrel length and sight radius. Plusses all around, IMO.

Great job, nmc64132! :)

Me likey!! here is my P45 'covert'. Used the side of a grinding wheel till I got close, then sandpaper on a block till the PM size mag just clicked in. Finished with finer grits until I used the buffing wheel to smooth it out. Angled the inside for mag changes, and outside for looks / feel.

Great... almost as pretty as my PM45!:D

I wish that Kahr would come out with a black metal base plate for our .45's! I would prefer that!
