I was on the phone with Taurus Customer service a little bit ago with a light primer strike problem with my pt-22. He wanted me to try to blow out the firing pin cavity with my air compressor. I asked him about spraying brake cleaner down there and he said that it was a good idea but to make sure to re oil it so it wouldnt eat the metal away:confused: Ive been using this stuff for years on my shotguns and havent had an issue. Is the metal on the Taurus guns so cheap that I actually have to worry about brake cleaner eating the metal?

naw, u were just talking to a dumb fokk. I am surprise he even said if the cleaner wasOK as they really have no clue most of the time. More than likely u were talking to the midnight janitor who was about to get off his shift. Ur taurus is a well made gun, spray that channel area agood, if I woud not reoil it until u test it out, andif it works ok then put a drop of oil in that cavity/striker channel.
As long as the spray cleaner is non cholorinated whtich today everything is that way due to epa sh!t. u can spray it aywhere on thegun and it will do no harmbut do keep any spray cleaner of any brand off of wood finished grips..

Taurus and customer service don't belong in same sentence....
A few years ago I called wondering when I would get my spare "magazine" that was offered with promo when I bought gun and the "customer service person" said oh I am very sorry I will get your free magazine right out to you. Well a week later I got a "magazine" about Taurus! [Let me ad, that when I called I was transferred several times to someone who could finally speak English.]
Almost every Taurus I have owned have had issues with bad triggers or failure to fire problems. Including my Judge, I will never own another Taurus.

The least she could have done would have been signed you up for 12 month sub. LOL! That's pretty bad.

I've used Break Free cleaner on my guns but I've never used actual brake cleaner. Not sure how that would work on a pistols finish.
All the CS guy was trying to tell you/him was brake cleaner will strip off any and all lube and leave parts vulnerable to higher/abnormal/whatever wear with out being reoiled. Why is this so hard to understand and why ya'll be beating on someone for being helpful?

other than the names, my bet not a hill of beans different. I can say it won't harm ur finish except wood grips and I think break Free is no better for that area either:behindsofa:

I was having a really hard time seeing how the brake cleaner could hurt metal. I get that it takes all the oil out. Thats what it does. I work at a John Deere dealership and my mechanics use this stuff by the case.

Im really thinking that if I can get this gun to cycle reliably I would sell it or trade it off for a different gun. I may be in the minority but I would not feel confortable selling the gun unless I felt confident in its reliability.

 No offense, but I think we're going to have to disagree on that one Jocko as Break Free, and Brake Cleaner being the same product.

Tinman Breakfree does have that manly cent to it, and might work pretty well at attracting women shooters to have a craving for your body.:D

My take on this is that a light film of oil in the striker channel of a Kahr pistol probably wouldn't harm a thing, but most shooter get too heavy handed with oil. The general consensus is that if a little oil is good a whole lot is better. It ain't. All that is required is a microscopic film of oil. If the Taurus slide isn't made of stainless steel then a little lubrication will prevent the rusting of the striker channel. Some of us are prone to condemn without thinking things through. I'd say that the suggestion from the Taurus representative was a good one. He probably knows his product better than we do. Just sayin.

I had 2 PT-22's that had a light strike problem.
The first one went back so many times , they destroyed it because it wasn't fixable. The replacement one broke the slide buffer after 14 shots.
3 months later I get a guy from a panicky TearAzz Customer Service Rep, he wanted to confirm my address. The next day my un-fixable PT-22 was delivered by Fed-Ex.
I sold it 2 days later for cheep, then I traded the other PT-22 for a Kel-Tec P3-AT.
I had 4 spare mags for them, since I always sent it in without one . It would come back with 1.
Sell it ASAP, it has a lifetime warranty to any owner, with free shipping duringthe first year.
I had grips crack, recoil levers break, the slide rail on the frame wear abby normal, trigger break and not reset.
Cut your losses, sell at a loss if you have too.
The only way to fix the light strike is with a longer firing pin. You have to buy one online at Brownells,Midway etc., since TearAzz won't ship you one or put a new one in for you unless it's broken(hint).
But, hey, it's made in the :amflag:
