I sold a couple guns recently and decided I wanted to try a Sig P226. I contacted my favorite gun dealer who said he just got 3 in that were committed but he had a couple more on order. He called me a couple hours later to say one of the guys backed out and that one was mine if I wanted it. The best part was he offered it to me at precraziness prices.

It didn't take long to get to the shop and when I opened the box I found it has night sights (just what I wanted) and 3 mags (super I don't have to buy two extras like my last sig). Then I see this anchor tattooed to the side of the slide (wait a minute, do I really want a gun the company brands as a boat anchor). I dig into the papers and I find a postage stamp sized Certificate of Authenticity! It's a Mk 25 and the marketing hype tells me it is the same pistol used by the Navy Seals. ALLL RIGHTTT! It won't rust when I carry it for protection against the sharks and alligators swimming up the Mississippi after the ice melts. Better yet I think I just found the pistol to mystically transform me from a marginal shooter (on a good day) to a real operator! You can bet I'll be at the range at daylight tomorrow. Those paper and cardboard terrorists better head for cover!:amflag:

With capacity and probably some of the most accurate shooters on earth. Why would you need anything BUT a 9mm?

Nice piece, congrats. I've been a SIG fan since I bought my first in 1980, a P225. That one along with a P6 was stolen a couple of years ago, but I still have a mint 1995 P220 nickel and my favorite 1911, a C3. I've sorta moved on to HK in the last few years because I like a manual safety, but I'm still quite fond of my SIG's for their smooth and completely reliable operation.

O man
Gimme a 226, 228 or 229 any day! They are great pistols, de-cock, and easy to break-down. You can pick a loaded one up off the bottom of the Chattahoochee river and come to the surface shooting! Reliable and accurate. Enjoy your new toy..... Tell people you were a Navy Seal, engineer and attorney (Non-Combat role) ;)
Good times with it!

In my original post I was referring to transforming my shooting skills not my service record. I am a Navy vet and served in the Gulf of Tonkin on a destroyer. I'm proud of my service but I was never a Seal. Back then I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express.

Pics? Someone already posted one. Mine looks just like that one. I'll try to get one posted when I have the time. At the moment I intend to be too busy shooting it!

Someone mentioned surprise that the Seals were still using 9 mm. In No Easy Day the author describes the weapons he had in his locker. It seems Seals have flexibility in their choices. He mentioned he had the Sig P226 and an H&K 45C and that he carried the 45 most of the time.

Off to the range in a bit. I'll let you know if it goes bang.

Very nice weapon - I'm starting to warm up to those pistols more than the SA XDMs.

I could post a file photo of a Harrier jet and say its mine. I want pics of YOUR gun.

If you in fact picked up a 226 (we'll see), its a great gun. Shoot the snot out of it if you can find ammo

Don't you gotta feed it the special SEAL ammo??

SpeerŪ LE Gold DotŪ Dive AmmunitionDesigned to operate in environments where other loads can never go -- deep in the water. Speer's Dive Ammunition features the legendary Gold DotŪ hollow-point bullet. This Special Operations Cartridge (SOC) is specially sealed to withstand everything from sewer water to saltwater. Special primers ignite the propellant in the most demanding of circumstances and consequently yields extremely uniform velocity and exceptional accuracy. Tested to a depth of 115 feet for 90 minutes.

Yep, it went bang -- every time I pulled the trigger. And, every time it went bang it cycled perfectly. Now I know what all the fuss is about with Sigs.

I loaded up all three mags last night to loosen them up a bit and because it was forecast to be 10 degrees this morning. I don't like loading mags outside when it is 10 degrees. I put up 2 targets, one for double action and one for single. I was anticipating trouble with the double because I couldn't get much finger tip on the trigger. I fired the first round of each mag double action at the double target and then switched to the single target for single action shooting. On the last mag I stayed on the double target for a few rounds just to try to concentrate on seeing how good a group I could get. Target pictures are attached (I think) although sideways. The 3 shot group was the double action shooting and the other includes my attempt to shoot as good a group as possible. All shooting was at 15 yds with 147 grn AE and with gloves on. I didn't have the trouble with double that I thought I would. However, I am still considering installing a short trigger. We'll see how things go in future range sessions.

Dang! That's good shooting... especially with a new gun and the weather conditions. At the 15-yard indoor range I'm hard pressed to stay within the 4x6 lines. My eyes just aren't what they used to be and I don't spend much time "aiming".
