View Full Version : I got made

I was in Cabela's yesterday looking for ironically stuff for the wife, and got made as LE at the gun counter, and specifically SO (which is where I'm trying to go) . Ok, not hired yet, but working on that, I'm just a little puzzled as to how I got made. There was nothing in the conversation, my daughter didn't spout something off that could have been heard, but yet I was asked about it. I wasn't printing, (besides around these parts and in there especially, no one cares). Just blows my little mind. Any of our more learned members have any thoughts?

Unless it was something obvious like wearing a cap or protective vest with the word Sheriff written across it, your best bet would have been to ask the person who made you, "how did you know I was law enforcement?" If you had asked, you would know instead of just assembling a list of guesses. :p

Maybe that active-duty Marine look... clean shaven, neat hair, business-looking demeanor... exuding confidence... etc... your "aura"!

Ah yes, the Musashi angle.
Thanks folks, just a funny kind of encounter, and no I don't advertise any affiliation.

I would guess you were made 16 3/4 years prior to then! ;)

Concealed carriers often telgraph the fact without being aware they do so. Shifting and fiddling with belts, cover garments, feeling for the gun, sags here, bumps there, and so on. Someones one doesn't have to see the gun to know one is present.

Here's a link to a good article on spotting guns.

No that's definitely NOT it..He doesn't fiddle, shifting, touch it or anything while he's out in public...It's like a third hand or arm to him. It's just there and he thinks nothing about it. He's so used to carrying...

I was talking to a friend (who is a LEOW) and the wife of the HR person for the SO that jlottmc is trying to get into and she said it was the aura, the way they carry themselves (military or LE) and she said that she thinks when they turn LE that they become K-9 and smell each other. The other LEO's on here will understand...

I have been carryi for over 45 years, never made been places I probably shouldn't with it to. always in my front pocket. For years it was my J frame and the last 5+ years my PM9 in a desantis. I am so used to it being there I never fiddle in that area. I just forget it even there. It is not a 2# brick in my front pocket, it drags nuttin down. I think more than anythig once one finds the rig he is most comfortable with and knows how to dress for it the fiddlin part will dissappear. I always felt one who just started to carry might be a fiddler, but not a person who has done it for years.being I have a ccw permit, it also does not bother me if I was made either, but I also think we think people are just lookin at us because we carry . THEY AREN'T. I never look at any person around me to try to see if he is carrying or not. If the person is moving u can't even see fast enough. I do not mind at all if women look in that area...

OK. Newbie question here. Is there a glossary around here somewhere? I get that "made" means discovered, but does it mean more than that? Does it mean discovered and frisked, or is it simply somebody whispering and asking you what make and model your carrying? Or is it one of those, if you have to ask your can't afford it kind of things?

good question. I think this is the first time anyone has even posted about getting made. I would not think they could frisk anyone, they might ask ---maybe. It seems this guy was made due to his looks than any imprint from a gun=== I think.

You'll get used to it. And perhaps to learn to appreciate it sometimes when trying to pay for coffee at 7/11. Just don't try UC just yet. :)

Actually in this case being made means as a LEO not necessary printing of his gun. Jlottmc forgets some people don't know he graduated from the police academy in July 2012 and is looking for a Dept.

Actually he doesn't drink coffee. It would be hot chocolate for him but more than likely a coke Dr pepper or sprite...

You are correct jocko....it was more of his look and stance and aura as one LEOW said last night. jlottmc thinks it is funny that she said that once they become LEO that the turn K9 and smell each other. A lot like military or former military does...

I was actually thinking the same thing. Maybe not everyone, but maybe he has a low "hit rate" so to speak.

Reminds me of my roaring hormone younger days when the old rule was just ask the first 100 (good looking) women you come across to sleep with you. You may get slapped 99 times, but that 1 in a 100...:w00t:

Thank goodness those days are long gone.

Now I get to ask THE ONE each night for 100 nights and, no, you don't get to know my "hit rate". :D
