New CW45 owner from ND

Hello all, I just bought my first hand gun today, and am the proud owner of a CW45. Took it out this afternoon and put 55 rounds of Remington UMC 230 gr. through it. I am very impressed the with manageable recoil for a 45, but don't particularly like the really aggressive checkering on the hand grips. Does anyone have any recommendations on the Hoge Handall Jr. grips or something similar. Thanks! :Amflag2:

Welcome to the forum Tyranta. Before I fired my new PM45, I knew I had to do something about the cheese graters. I had an old unused 1.75" bike tube. I cut a piece out a little longer than needed... watch out, there's talcum powder inside. Then I washed it and turned it inside out. That looked better. I laid it on the pistol and used scissors to cut the top part at the right angle to clear the mag release on both sides. Then I cut the base at the angle needed. The cuts need to be smooth... not jagged... so the rubber won't rip as you slide the grip cover on the grip. My first was a little small and wound up on the PM9. All of my polymer Kahrs sport those grips because I like the feel... like my K9's rubber grips. The 1.75" tube will fit the P380 through the .45's. If you don't have a tube, you might get one free at a bike shop or try Walmart for a cheap new one... good for many grip covers. The rubber stretches and the more you stretch it, the easier it is to slide by picking up the leading edges and pulling it up in stages.

If you need to add bulk or finger thingies, you can try some of the other grip covers... or add something under the tube.

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

That's a great idea Wyntrout using an old bike inner tube. I will definitely try that. Your pistols all look slick with them.

All of the Kahrs don't NEED the cheese grater covers, but the tube covers feel great and I like the looks, too. I didn't want to increase the size of any of them, either.

Since you are new to this handgun, self defense arena, check out the many free YouTube videos made by Massad Ayoob, a world-class instructor in handgun use and self defense, who has recorded training sessions in Judicious Use of Force, Shoot to Live, Home Invasion, Preparation for Home Defense, and What to Do After a Shooting. Just Google his name and these topics and the YouTubes should show up. Very good instructional information from an expert, and free.

Wynn, I had a chance to shoot this morning before work for the first time since using your idea of the bike inner tube for a grip sleeve, shot 3 mags and absolutely love the way it feels! Thanks so much for the tip for a cheap grip solution that doesn't add any bulk.

I took a sanding block to my wifes CW9 cheese grater bits. Just a light touch made em much nicer and I have since installed a Hand All Jr while I like it I am not so sure my wife does.. I need to grab a tire tube and give this a try.
