Hey guys, I'm new to the Kahr world and I just picked up a CW9. I was really excited to get it and put some rounds down range, but I have encountered the chambering issues that I have read about. I read the manual, followed the whole no slingshot method, and used the slide release to chamber the round but it just doesn't want to go.
During the initial break in of 200 rounds, I used 4 types of ammo, Federal 124 grain Hydrashock, Hornady TAP 124 gr, Aguila 9mmLuger 124 grain ball and PMC Bronze. I'm a total newb to ammo, so I can't tell you all the specifics of them. I just know that Hornady and Federal wouldn't feed. They would take the nose dive and go straight into the feed ramp. It was so bad that I noticed they started making a small groove into the feed ramp.
Some question to you, is should I send it back or try to polish the feed ramp or try some other home remedy?
Thanks guys,
Ryan

go to the kahr tech section ahd hit on the propper prepping thread and scroll on down until u come to the follower check. I think u have a fllower grabbing the mag release button. will take 5 minute sto check it out and 5 minutes to fix it.
Lets not panic yet about sending it back. U can certainly pol9ish the feed ramp and help it, and also the chamber. I have a hard time thinin any copper bullet can pu7t a groove rin that nickel plated feed ramp.
Is this issue happening at round 2/3 maybe even..

Welcome to the forum. The way you hold the pistol has a great effect on the gun during loading AND shooting. As when shooting,
Use a firm grip when you use the slide lock release method to chamber a round. A loose grip during LOADING or FIRING can cause failures in operation due to the weak grip, or "limp wristing". These compact guns are tight-toleranced and need all of the slide's force to chamber a round... as in firing... a complete movement of the slide from back to chamber... no dragging or riding the slide.
If the gun is not firmly held, much of the slide's force is transmitted to moving the pistol instead of chambering the round. Any "dalliance" in the slide can allow the top round to tip over and dive... usually jamming into the right side of the feed ramp.

Here's some info you may have already seen:
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can download the pdf file here:

Impatient? Watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lube Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Thanks for the replies guys I really appreciate it.
Jocko- It only happens with the first round with a fully loaded 7 round magazine. I'm going to see about polishing the feed ramp. I checked the follower and it seemed to working.
Wyntrout- Thanks for giving me all those links, they are extremely helpful. I also wanted to thank you for your tact, the comment about me not knowing Kahrs is very true, but I am very familiar with certain ones. Mostly my HK P2000 cause its my service weapon.
I'm going to take it to the store I bought it at and see what there thoughts are. I am really discouraged by this being that I wanted a rock solid, dependable yet easy to carry pistol.
Thanks again guys.

The only pistols I've had no problems with aren't Kahrs... but I can't carry them concealed very well... they are too danged big. Being small and compact, the Kahrs are harder to get reliable sometimes, but worth the effort. You do need to learn how to hold them and use the long DA trigger. I practice a lot, but still go through my repertoire of bad shooting habits... jerking, anticiapating, and many more. I can use all quadrants of the target trying to correct my aim... more pointing than aiming! I get in a hurry and can't believe where the bullets go. Once in a while they actually go where I'm aiming!

Ryan, I'm also a newbie with two CW-40s, but they're similar to yours. Both had an occasional FTL during shooting and many FTEs with unfired rounds. Here's what I did and the problems have gone away.
Highly recommend taking apart your magazine(s) and cleaning all the gunk from them. Use either fine emery paper or a dremel buffer on the magazine feed lips. No need to oil/grease inside the magazine but be sure the spring is oriented correctly. The angle of the spring should match the angle of the magazine and follower.
Feel all around the loading and ejecting paths for burrs. If any, gently de-burr and polish all. Lube only per the lube diagram. I did not do the magazine follower modification described in this forum.
Both of ours now hand rack as smooth as butter even at slow speed. They each have 225 rounds fired (but hitting the range later today :D).

without any reservations tell you that no store is gnna hve the knowledge that is coming from thisforum. Just ain'tgonna happen. Listen to these guys here, check out what they ask of u, It will get right, just read and listen. Wyn has posted some great info, :Amflag2: the 40 kahrs are a real hand cannon, so maybe the next shoot take a good shooter friend with u and see ifhe can duplicate the issues ur having. Again, all ur doing is eliminating a possability of shooter error..

Just a bit of an update, I decided to polish the feed ramp and I shot 200 more ballpoint rounds through it at my local range. Ever since I have been able to charge the weapon and seat a round using the slingshot method, but still not by using the slide release. Being that I wasn't a big fan of using the slide release anyways this doesn't really bother me.
The performance of the gun itself was exceptional. I love shooting it, it feels amazing in my hand (once a put a Hogue wraparound on it, not a fan of the backstrap on the CW9). I am still waiting for my crossbreed holster to get here so I can start carrying this weapon around everyday.
Thanks again for all the input guys, you are more than helpful. It's greatly appreciated.
Cheers!!
-Ryan
