View Full Version : New CW9 XS sight questions...

I have recently purchased a CW9 and am looking to put XS sights on it. At first I was thinking just the front, but now I'm considering the rear as well. I have two questions; 1) On their website it says that the rear site requires gunsmithing to fit. Has anyone done this themselves, and if so, how much gunsmithing was necessary? 2) Also, how did you decide to go with the standard dot or the big dot? I can't decide, and it is hard to truly tell the difference it would make one way or the other from pics. I appreciate the ease of Kahr factory sights for quick target acquisition, and that is what is leaning me towards the XS system. I have fired my bro-in-law's CW45 several times, and it is a breeze to be accurate with. Any help and info anyone can give is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kyle :Amflag2:

On a side note: I have added a Talon Rubberized grip, a stainless guide rod, and polished the feed ramp, as well as the underside of the feed lips on my mags. I also did every step in the Kahr tech section to get it prepped and ready to shoot. I have yet to fire it, but I cannot wait. (It is only 2 days old) Anything I am missing? I will fire it this Saturday because it is the day of the month the ranges open up here on post to civilians, so I can take my wife with me. :)

The machining required is milling a different dovetail for the rear sight. That would take a full service gunsmith.

Why XS hasn't yet made something for the new design slides is beyond me.

The Trijicon's from Kahr will give you the classic three dot at a better price. Or... consider just the front sight which you could install yourself. A tritium front sight for $50ish delivered. That would keep the classic Kahr sight picture.

At self defense distances if you see the front sight on the bad guy you're pretty much going to hit him.

Thanks for the reply. I just ordered the Trijicon set, but will prob just install the front for now and see how things go.

Actually, XS makes sights for both style rear sight dovetails. The blurb that a CM or CW pistol "*Requires Gunsmithing (.330" X 65° X .075" DP)" is in reference to milling a front dovetail on these models. However, XS has recently added a sight that fits the existing front sight post holes on the CM/CW pistols. Several members here have had this sight installed. You have to contact XS by phone about this sight.

Thank you for the reply. I have decided to stick with the trijicon sights. XS charges $120 for sights and they will only install the sights as a "factory upgrade". Which means you have to send the slide to them for install, which costs $40 and $9 for shipping. They are good sights, but not worth that when trijicons will work just fine.
