View Full Version : Back in the .45 Saddle
I've been .45-less for several months after selling my Kimber Ultra CDP II and concentrating on 9MM, specifically Kahr and Glock. I visited my LGS / indoor range yesterday for some quality time with the PM9 and to give my son a chance to shoot his new to him PM9. We both came off the range all smiles.
Subsequent to the range we did the obligatory perusal of the showroom to see what, if anything, was new. Nope, nothing, nada, zilch. Wait a minute! What's that in the corner? A pair of Springfield XDs .45 pistols, one black and one two-tone. Boy that balck one would be nice to have and coincidentally, the XDs has been creeping into my thoughts the past few weeks. But thoughts was as far as it got. By the time we got home and settled down, the thoughts returned with a vengence. Somebody actually had one in stock at a reasonable price. Now they were not only thoughts, but desires. I returned to the store several hours later, only to find the black one had sold fifteen minutes prior. As I stood looking as if I'd just lost my best friend, the sales associate asked one of the managers if there were any more of the black XDs in the back. Lo and behold there was one left. The transaction was consumated in a flash and away I went.
Qualified with it today so I'm within rules & regs for off duty carry and also picked up a seven round magazine. This is one bad @$$ accurate little pistol that is a blast to shoot. It'll be a fantastic addition to my current carry choices.
To make things even better, I had sent a Shield 9 magazine to our very own Beardog asking him to make me a magazine pouch for it. The pouch arrived today and is typical Beardog quality. A few days ago I relinquished custody of the Shield to my son who enjoys carrying it much more than I. He agreed the magazine pouch was a quality item, but had no interest in actually carrying one. So I got the idea of trying the XDs magazine in the Shield 9 pouch. Perfect fit. I win again!

I like that too but I'm trying to hold off on a new gun when I can't find any ammo. I have a decent supply and I don't even like shooting it not know when I can resupply. :(

My dad just got the XDs a couple of weeks ago. I shot it with him last week. What a great gun! I am thinking I need to find one. I was super accurate with it.

When I picked up my 7 round magazine yesterday, which was at another LGS, I noticed they had .45 PMC Bronze on the shelf. I walked out with a case for $440. Another good day.

I got to hold a Ruger SR45 yesterday at the LGS. Very very nice, seems like a very slender grip for a double stack. Crisp short trigger, good ergonomics. Being plastic, I could feel the slight top-heaviness though. Other than that I really liked it. However, their price was not that far from an M&P 45 or Glock 21, which I like a little more.

I've been looking at the XDs for a while too.
It looks like about the same size as my HK P2000Sk 40.
And I already have and carry a HK45C.
So I really don't need it.
Plus that Bulgy 7.62 pistol just keeps haunting me.
Eventually I'm going to crack.
It's just a matter of time.

I keep debating: XD-S now, or wait for CM45 this summer...? I'm not going to do anything until I get a chance to try an XD-S at the range. So many guns, so little time and money.

Congratulations on your purchase. I have been a big XD fan since they first came out in 9 and 40. I purchased one of the first 45 acp's when they were introduced. The flew off the shelves for many months after they came out and none were returned with a problem - which for a newly introduced caliber is quite a positive. Shoot and enjoy.

The XD-S and the P2000sk are similar in height and length, but the XD-S is quite a bit thinner than the P2000sk.

Springfields seem to have a very high bore axis. Is it just my imagination compared to Glocks, M&Ps, etc. ??? Comments appreciated cause I also in the market.

They definitely do compared to the Glock. I have a Glock 19 and I had an XDM 9mm for a while. I got them both at the same time. I just sold the xdm because I just felt so much more accurate with the Glock. After owning Kahrs and Glocks, the XDM just felt way too tall. However, when I shot my dad's XDs, I did not feel that way. I am not sure why. I was super accurate with that XDs. I am not sure if it had to slimmer frame or what.

I work for the military and we have a gun store on the base
they got in 20 XDS a couple of weeks ago just before I bought my CW45.
I was the first one there when they unpacked them and got to handle one before anyone....I didn't buy it because my pinky was completely dangling
and my third finger was hangin....LOL
(All 20 were sold by the next day)
The CW45 without inserting the magazine yet is the best, most completely satisfying fit I have ever found in any handgun by anyone in .45 there is room to spare at the bottom of the hand grip after all my fingers are on board. I bought it !!!
Even after looking into top of the line Sigs and Hks...they also are short on hand grip fit....
It's all about the ride.....

I've had the CW45 for a year. I like it a lot and it's not hard to carry. Then I held the XDs 6 weeks ago and it ended up going home with me too. I've put 300 rounds through it and it has never failed once. I like the sights and trigger too.
I haven't given up on the CW45 and it is my house gun at this time. I've decided that I need more holsters, more waist line, and more ammo with some land of my own where I can shoot so I can carry and shoot them all at the same time.
