He said give 'em both barrels, so I went out this morning & bought a new Ruger SR45 to compliment my Springfield GI .45, and will take his advice.

Nineteen 230 grain .45ACP boolets should be just as effective as two 00 buck loads, shouldn't it? :D

My CW45 should make a nice backup just in case it ain't.

I think most 00 buck is approximately equal to 8 38 cal pellets.
So yes,
I'd take 19 .45s over 16 .38s.

I personally go with 29 230 gr +P .45 Ranger Ts
