Just received a new 8 round magazine from Kahr for my CW9.

Any advise on how to "put it through it paces" to make sure it functions properly?

I hope to get to the range in the next few days if the rain lets up!

I have a bunch of the 8-round extended-grip mags and I take them apart and inspect them for burrs. I use 320-grit sandpaper to smooth over the edges... just a few light passes over the feed lips, the retention notch... using a pencil/eraser with the sandpaper to make a few rubs over the inside of the retention notch... and I rub the follower on both sides, the edges, the bottoms of the skirts... just rounding and smoothing everything... EXCEPT the steel pin that actuates the slide lock... don't sand that!

I clean the tube by forcing a wadded up paper towel through it to remove grease and crud. I leave the tube dry and just oil the spring... lightly... with oil on my fingers.

Make sure that one of the free ends of the spring is to the front of the follower to push up on it... lightly oil the spring and put it back together.

IF you have malfunctions associated with the follower and magazine catch colliding... usually rounds 2 or 3, then you can look at some of the "fixes" for that... several threads on that.

I use my 8-round extended-grip mags for the range and for spare reloads when carrying concealed... maximum bullets in one reload. I carry every Kahr with the smallest, flushest-fitting magazine for best concealability.

Wynn:)

Hey Rain make sure to give it a good clean. For some reason the CW series isn't plagued with the longer mags like the CM series are.Try it see if it works for you,I have a CM9 and have been working on the 8 round mags and have good success with them.I that found using a smaller spring I use a spring from my 6 round mag in my 8 round mag seems to make the mag run better, if you like that you can always cut the long spring down that's what I did on my long springs.Feel free to give me a shout if you need.Take a look at the on tread I put up awhile ago, I also did the follower mod that help alot.Good luck if it give you trouble like I said get a hold of me

Thanks for the replies and sound advise. I'll let you know how it goes if the rains let up enough to get out and shoot!

Rain might be better than the fluffy white stuff that's falling now in MI.

You got that right! I lived in MI for 14 years; my wife was born there. We were on the other side of the state - Marine City. I think it should snow between Christmas and New Years. That should be enough!

It snows here occasionally, but black ice is more frequent! Fun on a Harley!

Both of my two 8 round mags worked great right out of the wrapper in my CW9, Hope yours does too. Love 'em.:amflag:

I have 2 7 rounders and 1 8 rounder. I like the feel of the 7 rounders better.

Was that the Salt Docks Restaurant in Marine City or Diamond Salt in St. Clair"? Been a LONG time for me. We left Marine City in 1991 headed for Tucson, AZ! Only been back twice since.

Well, finally made it to the range, even though it was cold and windy!

The magazine was excellent right out of the box. Well, I did clean and lube it.

Actually spent more time with my new Px4 Compact .40. It shoots great, but can't compare to the Kahr trigger! How DO they do that?

Another vote for the 7 rounders. Bought an 8 rd once and could never get used to the extra length. Sent it back to Kahr for another 7 rounder. Lost money on that trade but have a mag I will actually carry now. BTW the newer 7 rounders are much better then the older ones. They stay put. Have never found the newer one backed out a bit after a day of carrying.

on ur comment. the only way a magazine shold back/release out is if it never locked fully in place. Only the mag release button release the magazine. If a magazine is in and the mag release button is doing what it should u outta be able to pull allu want on the 7 or 8 round mags and they shod not release. Prematrue mag release IMO is a out of spec mag release button... Just sayin

I have 3, 8 round and 3, 7 round mags for my CW9. Not a problem with any of them right out of the wrapper.

Ive never tried an 8 round mag with my k9. I just don't like the way the 8 round mag looks when extended beyond the pistol grip. If they made a grip extension that was more contour correct I'd be more interested.

The 8 round mag for the CW9 can be bought with the extension (K920G) or without (K920). Not sure if that's the same mag for the K9.

In theory, yes. In my case I say the mag release is connected to the notch in the mag tube. These notches can vary in size or position slightly. In any case I have 2 mags that came with my P9 back in 2002. When I carry either of these I check the mags often finding them backed out at least once a day. The newer mag has never backed out and I carry it more then the others as you can imagine. I make sure each mag is locked fully in place with an audible click and pulling on it to make sure. It just takes less pressure to release mags 1 and 2 then it does mag number 3. Tooling will wear in any process and that notch will change from mag to mag in size, shape or position if manufactured 10 years apart.

I have used a 8 shot mag as my backup for 4 years in both a cw9 and cm9. Allways worked well at the range too. easier for a my paws to control that longer mag than a stock mag if needed. Fits the average single blade 4" knife cases well to if needed to carry on you.
