View Full Version : P380 & 1st trip to range

I took my new P380 to the range today & put just over a 100 rounds through it with minimal issues. The only problems I had were self induced, hitting the slide stop with my thumb & locking the slide a couple of times. Not bad for a big pawed guy. I did the prep on it & everything functioned perfect. Was impressed with the accuracy, feel, quality of this little gun. The only thing I will have to work on getting used to is the trigger, with its long pull, smooth but long. Very impressed, I'm glad I sprung for the P, over the Ruger, Keltec or the CW (that I had my name on a list for) over all a fun day at the range, can't wait to put some more rounds down range.

Congrats. Shorter sessions, rather than marathons with the P380 seem to work better. I've taken two of those through the teething sessions now and have two good shooters, thanks to Kahr Customer Service, too.
Welcome to the forum, too.

nice post AB1968. whenthe P380 is running right, there is no better 380- PERIOD. the Ruger and kel tek are what they are. both will go bang when needed but certainly not te quality the P380 is, nore the fun of shooting them either. they will unich a shooter faster than any P380 will.

Great to hear of your successful trip to the range. I bought a P380 several months back ( after researching the Kahr, LCP, BG.380, & Sig 238), I'm pushing 550 rounds without a single issue. That little BUGger runs like crazy !! I love. It is my first Kahr, and I'll be adding a PM9 stable mate by the end of the month.

 two p380s?!....Can I have one? lol...why the want/need for two if you dont mind me asking. I like to have two of certain pistols also, if its something I really really like. Especially if its my ccw just in case something goes wrong with one I have a backup..

We were going to set my wife up with her own pistol. I went to the gun shop thinking about a CW9 or used P9. The P380 was on sale and went home with me. Wifey wasn't impressed... hard to rack... even after weeks with the slide locked back and shooting about 300 rounds. It had a bad extractor and went back to Kahr where they replaced a bunch of stuff. I took it to the range again and shot it until the only problem was the magazine catch wouldn't hold the mag in. Looking at that, I saw that the ledge must have been too soft and it had 'folded" a bit. Kahr sent me another one and it's fine now.
Meanwhile, someone put up a nice P9 on our Marketplace and I bought that "for Wifey". She thought that was too hard to rack, too. I just picked up "her" G19 yesterday and hope that I can get her to work with racking it and actually SHOOT it before too long. I got a new G23C... compensated .40 a few weeks ago and I got her to try racking that. She could, so I got her a G19. With 15-round... or better... magazines and as trouble free as my 23C, she should be able to shoot the G19.
As much as I like the P380's, the second one is redundant, and I might eventually sell it and another or two... because I've absolutely gone berserk buying guns, ammo, magazines, and other gun accessories!

Hi AB1968,
I've got 200 rounds thru my P380 now and have only had one FTF, and. I think I limp wristed that one. Do you have factory sights on yours? That's the only thing I'm not real happy with, and am considering the addition of different sights.

I have one of the first P380s. It makes thru about 30 rounds then has a couple of FTFs. I need to send it to kahr to look at. It just sits in my safe most of the time, so I keep forgetting about sending it in. When I hear how much people love them, it makes me a little jealous. I want to love mine so bad.

Hi bean guy, I have the standard sights on it, I have already looked at a set of Trijicon sights for it, but thought I would give the standard ones a try first for a few hundred rounds.

I have the 3 dot tridium night sights on mine. I love them. They are tiny though. Much smaller than my pm45 night sights. Still can light up a room :)

rounds have been throug the gun?? Might just need more rounds. Canu let anutter shooter try the gun to see if he can duplicate. I would ask kahr first to send u a new set of recoil springs...

Some films are educational. I'll always remember Jody Foster in Silence of the Lambs... how she improvised and lit up the room enough to see the perp who was wearing night vision goggles in a totally dark room!:59:
My buddy "improved" on her .357 a bit:

Don't give up on it. Send it back to Kahr, they'll make it right (no matter how long it takes). Seriously, I've sent mine back 3 times (stuff broke each time, extractors, slide stops, springs) but as they say, 3rd times a charm! It's been running fine since, even with the cheaper 95 gr. FMJ Aguila ammo. I've had some issues with Rem JHP 88 grain, but it's good for helping the wife learning how to handle malfunctions. ;)
