Hi,
I just picked up a CW40 that looks to have very little use. I put about a 100 rounds thru it this morning and it functioned great, EXCEPT, if you load it with one in the chamber and six in the magazine, 4 out of 5 times it will not feed the first round in the magazine after firing the round in the chamber. Load a full mag, drop the slide and it is always reliable.

It appears it has something to do with putting a full mag in with the slide already closed. It seems to be pushing the nose of the first round down, so thta it is hitting below the ramp.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Sam

PROBABLY NOT THEISSUE BUT U NEED TO CHECK UR FOLLOWER TO SEEIF IT GRABBING ON THE MAGRELEASE BUTTON. iT CAN DO THAT AT ROUND NORMALLY 2. THERE IS A HOW TO CHECK FOR THIS ON THE KAHR TECH SECTION IN THE PROPPER PREPPING THREAD..

takeur magazine apart andcheck to see if spring is in correctely. One never knows . while it is apart, sand under the feed lips to smooth out even better.
check to see that the follower is not broken either.

Are you shooting your own relosads? When the mag is loaded to max capacity and the slide is closed, the top bullet exerts so much pressure upward on the slide that it impeads the recoil just enough to cause the problem. Two other things can contribute to the problem also, weak target ammo and/or a magazine that has not yet put a set on the springs. There is nothing wrong with the gun or the mag. Remedy the problem by not inserting that extra bullet unless your springs are well broken in and set or you are shooting max velosity ammo to overcome the extra drag on the slide.

You can check the stripper bar lower part of the slide that rides over the bullets in the magazine. Maybe it needs a bit of polishing and a bit of oil. Make sure the top round in the mag is ALL the way to the rear of the magazine. Make sure the magazine spring is oriented with a free end to the front to push up more on the follower.

I am shooting my reloads, which are full power, and factory ammo (Rem Golden Sabre).

I am starting to think that maybe the feed ramp needs a good polishing. The nose of the bullet that cause the problem is really low on the ramp.

I will check the bottom of the slide.

There is a good chance that the magazine springs are at full strength. The gun is used, but I don't think there has been more than a handful of rounds fired thru it. Very little wear anyplace.

The springs COULD be too strong, but IF you do any tinkering, have a spare spring... buy a 3-pack at Wolff and always make sure that a free end of the spring... an unmodified one, is under the front of the follower to LIFT it as much as possible.

wyntrout may be right with the spring,I've been doing alot of work on the 9mm mags I use cut down springs in my mags also you may need to do the follower mod.As you had said make sure the feed ramp is good and polished. Some times you have to mess around with the mag to get them right.Remember to check the slide release make sure its not hitting any of the round.Best way remove slide then put loaded mag in and you can see if its hitting of course put the slide release back in

good luck

Must not be unusal as my CW40 does exactly the same thing. I just carry a second mag giving me a total of 12 rounds. No problem since it works great except for that (to me) very minor problem.

Spellcheck, and punctuation, sometimes I have a hard time following your post.

Don't let the Perpetual New Guy rank or the low post count fool you. Jocko has been around here forever and posted tens of thousands of times. He also used to own a gun store. He knows what he is talking about. Like Tinman says, you just have to get used to reading his posts. It gets easier after a while.
