Is the CW9/P9 considered a compact or a subcompact?

On another gun forum a question was posed as to what people carried: a full sized service pistol, a compact, a subcompact, or a pocket gun. It got me curious as to what the CW9/P9 was. To me it seems to be tweener.

I consider it a sub compact. Kahr's full size line is more of a compact. The Kahr PM/CM/MK are all 'micro' by my definition.

In Kahr's lineup, they are obviously the 'compact' line, but everything is measured differently w/in the Kahr product line.

That is a good point. My t9 is about the same size as my glock 19 which is called a 'compact'. The 26 is about the size of a k9/p9/cw9 'subcompact.' Of course the kahr is much thinner. The mk9/pm9/cm9 is off the charts.

I would consider my LCP a subcompact and it's smaller than the CW9 so I would think the 9 would be thought of as more of a compact. However,
the CW9 seems to be labeled and talked about in the "subcompact" arena more than compact. I was considering a Ruger SR9c which is a "compact" but after I saw how large it was I didn't think I would enjoy carrying it as much. It is quite a bit bigger than the CW9.

Yep, the problem is no 2 manufacturers label them the same. My Sig P250 is the compact version. It's definitely thicker and way heavier than my TP9, but profile wise they are about the same. The LCP is more like a PM in size, probably really sits between the P9 and PM9 on size. I think it's subcompact to micro, regardless of what Ruger calls it.

It's all just names. Means jack.

I would consider the CW9 as a compact, the CM9 a sub-compact... but that's just my 2 rounds worth.

I consider anything in the 4.25-5 inch barrel range to be full size. Anything in the 3-4 inch range to be a compact. Anything under 3 inches to be subcompact. This isn't a hard and fast rule but seems to be a consensus among most firearms manufacturers. So a CW9 would be considered a compact pistol.

I consider the CW9 a sub compact. It is shorter than a SW640, and shorter that a G19, which is a compact.

Speaking of Kahrs, the K/P/CW lines are compacts, the PM/CM/MK's sub-compact, and the P380's micro's. The T/TP lines are the full-sized Kahrs. We're not talking about "normal" sized pistols like 5" 1911's or XD/XDM's, though!
